At least Bathurst has consequences on the rare occasions when they DO get it wrong, frequently resulting in yellow flags, safety cars, and a bunching of the field. The Bend is specifically designed to be consequence free.
Bathurst is very rare in that sense though, its what makes it great.

Comparing the 2 is like comparing Noarlunga Oval and Adelaide Oval

Yeah, comparing Bathurst with ANY other track in Australia is unfair. It's easily the best track in the country, and it's daylight 2nd - with the Adelaide street circuit being next best (IMO). Sadly, car reliability, sims and driver fitness have taken the edge off even the majesty of Bathurst in recent years.

I'd probably rate Townsville 3rd, as it seems to produce exciting races every time. Gold Coast is probably 4th, based moreso on the scenic nature of the track/area than the racing though. As far as racing is concerned, Eastern Creek is probably the pick of the permanent tracks, though I get why it's not popular with people who actually go to the track to watch. I quite like watching the Hidden Valley (Darwin) races as well. Simmons Plains is quirky, but the hairpin provides a major point of difference (and points of difference is what The Bend lacks). I'm not a fan of Barbagallo, but it's due to be replaced by the new street circuit in the not too distant future.

The Bend just doesn't stack up against ANY of the other circuits, other than Barbagallo. It's not just a poor cousin to Bathurst (every other track is as well) - it's the poor cousin to every other Supercars track in the country. It's the least visually stimulating track by a long way, and produces some of the least interesting races (with only Barbagallo coming close). I have no doubt that it's an amazing facility, with a perfectly laid track and outstanding pit facilities... but at the end of the day they're just driving around a featureless paddock, with no memorable features, no consequences for getting it wrong, and it produces racing which is as dull and lifeless as the track itself. What's really annoying though is that everything that's wrong with the track is by design.

Phillip Island ??

I do enjoy your Bend rants, lets see how they go on the West circuit this year.

It's arguably the best track in Australia which is not currently being used by Supercars.

It can't possibly be worse than the circuit they used last year...
Its not arguably the best, its comfortably the best.

And again with the Bend track, for a man who's never been there, you seem to rate your opinion.

Which is why it should be the leading candidate for the next "new" track to be added to the Supercars calendar (as distinct from the Perth street circuit, which will be replacing an existing WA round at Barbagallo).

I've seen every Supercars race there on TV, each one more tedious than the last.

Every race on TV.... cool.

Your opinion means much less that it might had you actually been there.

I don't think that's fair.

I haven't been to a lot of tracks around Australia, I don't believe that means I can't judge the racing it provides.

I can't comment on the facilities or viewing spectacle live but I can tell how interesting the race is.

I think you can only judge so much if you havent been there live.

I think the Bend cops a bad wrap because its an ugly place..... which it is. The track itself, at least the racing I have been too, is fine.

Fair enough, can't say I agree.

I don't feel particularly strongly on the Bend either way. Sandown I actively despise. I'm not sad that lost the enduro.

Yeah thats fair, not everyone agrees. I dont particularly want to go to Bali, but I wont judge it until I actually go.

Sandown is interesting. People get wrapped up in the history of the place, but you can count how many exciting things have happened there in 60 years, on 1 hand.

You're welcome to your opinion. Feel free to be wrong.

It's not a good combination - it's an ugly place, and it produces unexciting racing.

What a snoozefest and eyesore this circuit is. Let Adelaide have this too.

The circuit itself isnt too bad, but it really isnt a great venue
I've only really got into the supercars the last 3 years or so and I love what the street circuits have to offer. I went to Adelaide when Chisel played and watched 3 days of racing it was mind blowing. Bathurst is the only non street circuit that excites me.

I hate to break it to you, but Bathurst is a street circuit too.

Is it? News to me. I've driven it and didn't really look streetish. I'm always willing to learn though. I get theres properties around but I guess I meant a city circuit.

Its a public road, so technically its a street track I guess. But its more of a tourist drive that a few residents live on.

Its not surfaced like your average street track, nor does it get the traffic of one.

Geez have a wine Feeney. You knew the rules and didn't deliver at the pointy end. A grand final is a grand final.

It's a public road, that you can drive around when it's not closed for racing - I've driven around it a couple of times myself. However, we're talking rural roads, not roads in the middle of a city (like the Adelaide, Gold Coast and Townsville circuits).

Just be careful not to speed if you choose to drive around the circuit - the Bathurst cops love setting up radar traps on both Mountain & Conrod straights, hoping/expecting to catch those who fancy themselves as a modern day Peter Brock.

Nice result for Toyota last race, especially for Chaz. Feeney will be looking over his shoulder 😉
