Guessing we will know in the next 2-3 days if he is staying at Melbourne, once he has a chat with King.

Could be going to a team still in finals.

The waiting for the coach is a bit of an odd thing? Is there someone he didn’t like? The coaches vision of rebuild or try to contend? Most coaches are very good at selling you the dream

He wants to play midfield, I'd imagine that was a discussion to have with a new coach.

Yeah, surely he can do his own depth chart. Unless King tells him they will look to move on some of the older players is hard to see unless it’s wing.

Without trading Trac, Viney and Clarry will all be CBA players. Langford is up next and they are making plays for Windhager and Flanders types. Pickett will play through there. Rivers you’d think is in front of him.

Not sure there is a team where he plays mid unless he trains there in pre season and really impress. (unless it’s the Eagles and we haven’t really been linked)

He'll end up in the midfield, ideally we move on some of the older brigade and let the likes of Rivers, Langford, Windsor, Lindsay, Pickett and McVee have a crack.

People go on about Oliver, Viney and Petracca but we've actually got some very good youth coming through.

Agreed. Under 23s are in decent shape.

But will be interesting to see if they do move on from the older group. Only way he likely sees midfield time unless it’s over Rivers.

One of the best decision makers in the team and most of our 22 are horrendous decision makers so I'd hate to lose him.

I struggle to see his type getting a run in Freo's midfield either.

I realise that is what he is aspiring to, and that is nice, but has he actually ever shown much up the ground?

He's a steady and skilled small defender - nice to have but nobody is breaking the bank to bring him in or paying a premium based on aspirations to play regularly in an AFL midfield. He'd get a run in the Eagles midfield, for a bit, but so did everyone in 2025 - Hutchinson, Duggan, Hough, Brockman, Ryan etc but I doubt he wants to do that!

We have a half back and a wing role available. We need to upgrade each spot.

I doubt he would be part of our starting midfield, but when these guys gets a rest there is room for other players to run through the midfield. I think he could easily get 20-30% CBA's next year, which Jaegar currently gets but he should be getting pushed out in the next 1 or 2 years.

Not sure why people keep saying he wants to play midfield.

The quote from his agent was that he wants to play further up the ground - I.e. as an attacking HBF rather than a lockdown small defender.

He’s been behind Salem/ Bowey/ Rivers in that role at Melbourne, but played that role the last few rounds and looked good.

Fair - half back would be more likely you assume.

I was confused because there is absolutely zero chance he's getting genuine midfield time at Freo unless wing counts.

Very similar to Neal-Bullen in that we'll get nowhere near commensurate value in a trade.

Very good player who was down a bit this year due to a lack of PS and a lingering injury. Freo will almost certainly get a bargain.

Something about rookies being plucked out of obscurity, showing a lot and then leaving at the first opportunity doesn't sit particularly well, but c'est la vie.

Luckily for you, there is nothing Wallsy likes more than paying whatever another club asks for in trade

Can't be any worse than old mate 'Feather in the Cap', surely

Worse for us, better for oppo clubs. Wallsy has yet to meet an oppo list manager he doesnt want to go to the pub with and shout the first four rounds while giving up whatever is asked for.

Great drafter, way way too nice in trades.

We'll pay more for McVee than Geelong did for Smith
