Nominated rookies: E Curnow (Carl), N Lower (Fre), R Milne (Haw), M Newton (Melb), B Miller (Rich). All now available for senior selection.

Good to see Miller get his chance at Richmond as well

I do not like this one little bit!

Juice is a *******. IMHO it had to be either Robbie Campbell, as our ruck stocks are shizzen, or Michael Evans, who made the best of his chances in the pre-season.

I never wanted to see Juice in a Melbourne jumper again!

Newton is further off being AFL grade than I am.

The fact he remained even our rookie list was a blight on our club, let alone elevating him to the senior list.

I would rather have seen Evans promoted. Or promote Robbie Campbell, then put him on the LTI list is he injured. Then they could promote another rookie until Campbell was fit.

Well it begs the question as to whether it was a fate accompli from last year or whether the other rookies just didn't cut it in the pre-season and need time with Casey. I get the feeling that Campbell was always a roll of the dice from the club's pov wrt games.

Not much elaboration on the MFC website other than to say:

Newton, also a second-year rookie, has battled a wrist injury during the pre-season. But he showed some promising signs in the VFL last year, as well as showing his ability down back, when he was one of Melbourne's best against the Brisbane Lions in last October's Shanghai Showdown in China. Newton has also shown an ability to pinch-hit in the ruck.

I like the elevation. There was no spot for McNamara in our backs, and Juice would be a handy player to be used as a sub, or as relief for Jamar.

Dean Bailey has gone MAD!

Call me crazy but maybe a Rnd 1 replacement for chip?

In Newton

Out Warnock

Oh Wait....HE IS INJURED!!! WTF?!?!

Am I the only one here who thinks that this actually makes sense? I feel that the spot was going to be for Robert Campbell. So with him being injured and potentially not ready to play until mid season, we needed another tall who could play ruck/forward.

None of the new rookies really put up there hand for a spot, and to be honest, would any of them actually get a game if elevated? Highly doubtful with the amount of similar players on our list. A relief ruckman who can rest in the forwardline will be crucial this season with the sub rule in place. 3 running players on the bench, and an explosive utility type as a sub, means we need 2 players on the field who can ruck. One down forward and one starting in the ruck. Martin and Juice are the only 2 who can play that role IMO. Spencer is a spud and you just wouldn't risk playing him and Jamar in the same side.

And Jamar can't ruck all day, so we need that pinch hitter in the ruck to give him that rest either on the bench or down forward. As much as it pains me to say it, I feel it's a move we had to end up making. And I believe we can elevate another player mid year? If so, we can elevate Campbell then, or if still injured, a Nicholson or Evans. History says that we will have someone on the long term injury list anyway, so I think it's a good chance that we will have a few of our rookies on the senior list at some stage throughout the season. Call me crazy, but I think it's a good move...

One more season of Juice and then he'll be gone, hopefully no boneheaded decisions about re-signing him.

May as well have him in as ruck support or as a KPF decoy in the forward line.

I was shcoked at first, I never even considered him to take the spot considering he has been injured for the past couple months.

But I agree with a couple people here, we didnt have much of a choice. No point upgrading Robbie Campbell, but the time he is injury free and found form at Casey, it will be mid season and we are able to upgrade someone else.

The other boys don't look up to it yet, Evans mayby, but he wouldnt be needed and has no chance of making the 22. If McNamara had done a decent job in the prac games, he probably would have got it. But he ended up getting a lot of goals kicked on him.

We need to try as many second ruck options as possible, neither of SME or Spencer have blizted pre season to claim the spot. I actually prefer Newton to Spencer anyway. I personally would like to see Martin in the team ahead of Newton and Spencer, but until he proves his worth his spot isnt set.

We had no else to give the spot to, in the end Newton won't show anything anyway and will (please god) be delisted at the end of this year anyway.

This is why i dont get why we delisted danny hughes. Surely he has shown more potential than juice has in his career but then again, i dont see them and dont watch them as extensively as the coaching staff do.

Good key forwards are very rare, it's been almost 10 years since the ox retired & since then we've only had neita.

As bad as juice is, our forward line isn't great & he's an option. That's why he's lasted so long & why he gets yet another chance.

That's at least what I choose to believe so that I don't lose my shit when I hear his name mentioned in relation to mfc.

Hard to see him being fit, even if he's back in full training after his wrist, he's missed a good month.

Thats what I thought BC.

My understanding of the rookie elevation rule isnt great - but I didnt think there was any advantage in elevating prior to round 1 other than if you wanted to play the player in round 1??

What if he ends up 4 more weeks away and one of the newbies blitzes in the first 4 VFL rounds?

I know we're desperate for a tall forward who can ruck, but Im surprised at this move..
