Ok, a fraction premature for a definitive list, given some current ones will surely be available, but worth a chat

I'd like to see Batchelor upgraded.

Conca? Yeah probably, but not to single digits

No need for Helbig as yet

Grimes - definitely. Post - yep

Keep Browne at 34

5,7,11 free at present.

Batch would look great in Newies old number 1 I rekon :thumbsu:

No one can be number 1, say Newman handed over the captaincy to Cotchin next year, Newman would move from 17 back to 1, and Cotchin 9 to 17, then meaning no one could be number 9, etc etc.

But I would say 11 for Batchelor would look good, 5 for Conca, leave 7 for now

I like tio see the Tigers developing tradition and spirit around the captaincy....and they don't come much better than Captain Blood.:thumbsu:

Conca wear Bourkes number your not meant to get an upgrade for that expect him to stay there. Unless of course he really wants a change.

Number seven was my former Favourite number, Dustin is fast changing that... Captain wearing 17 is brilliant. Only club in the league that does it. I love it...

Conca has number 7 all over him.
We haven't haduch recent luck with ruckmen wearing number 5, (Ottens and troy simmonds).

And batch would look good in eleven. Wearing the old generals number...

Personally couldn't give a stuff what number they wear... shouldn't really make much of a difference to how they perform to be honest.

#17 for the skipper should remain... that's symbolic

The Number 17 policy needs to GTFO. Immediately.

Yeah I agree, it doesn't add anything and players get attached to thier own number. New CEO and new coach since introduced might not see much in it and will ditch it on Newman handing the captaincy over.

I would imagine a number of kids have got the number 9 on thier jumper already. Probably some adults. Wears the number of the great Shane Williams with pride.

the number 17 is a privilege and is one of the things that keeps our club different...

17 best number keep it :thumbsu:

and cant see the club changing it any time soon

I think I'm one of the few older fellas who likes the idea of the skipper wearing the no 17. Pretty sure, back in the old days, all captains may have worn no 1 for their respective clubs.

I don't know how attached the players become with their numbers, or if it's more of a supporter thing. Would be interesting to hear the players own views on it actually.

If it was a tradition that has been in place for the clubs whole history then yeah great but it was made up to honour one of our greatest players. Im happy to keep it but wouldnt be dissapointed to see it go.

What i would like to see if they do keep it is the kids we are drafting should be aspiring to get that No 17. Id love Cotch to come out and say I want the Number 17, i want that responsibility.

At the end of the day a numbers just a number. Some people get attached to them, some dont. History wise it will make it easy to determine who was skipper in what year.

I reckon Conca will stay at 30, he seems that kinda guy. It suits him too.
Batchelor, Post, Griffiths, Grimes and probably Dea should upgrade. We can't keep this process up if we don't upgrade a few, otherwise we'll have players in the 60s...

traditions have to start somewhere....

if you can it now its going to do nothing to add tradition at richmond, or for the memory of the great JD.

and besides, imagine in 50 years when they are talking about richmond captains over the ages, standing up with the cup aloft, wih #17 on their back, there is something symbolic, historical, and special, about the thought of our next premiership captain standing on the stage with the cup and having that number on his back... Jack dyer was one of, if not the best, and most renowned player/coach/personality to come to this great club. let his memory live on through, and to inspire our captains for the rest of the clubs future.

ill get off my soap box now.;)

17 should stay with newman and then handed over to cotchin for 2013 (with the option of him taking the new number or staying at 17) otherwise retire the 17 until the next captain comes along.. 9 just looks to good for the COTCH

Batchelor deserves number 11
Conca...even though it doesnt mean anything I dont think he deserves a number like 7 just yet. i see him in 2 digits :) maybe 24

Grimes 27 maybe? hislop wont be on the list next year.

(Im really eager to see more of Grimes. To be honest i hated him in his early games but he seemed to have picked up a bit. I'm still not convinced but really want to see him play more.)

We have a statue of him outside the ME Bank centre, the Jack Dyer Stand which will hopefully see action when we have out own reserves side and play at Punt Road Oval fingers crossed at least, the B&F wins the Jack Dyer Medal, plenty of things to have him remembered for generations to come, no need for the captain to have his number as well, let the Trent Cotchins start their own legacy and history for the club.
