im an angry supporter who was excited by the idea of having mcguire in the carlton line up for next year. however now we didnt take him, and ill get over it.

but what i cant get over is people on the carlton forum here at bigfooty, thinking that o'hailpin is going to be a key position player for us.

Im just being realistic, o hailpin can not play forward, sure he had a couple of good games this year but i and i know along wiht many otehr carlton supporters, cannot trust his set shot nor his disposal under pressure. I dont see him being that saviour for our fev blues, however i do hope he proves me wrong.

im not feeling too optimistic about next year, especially with the ever growing amoutn of midfielders we seem to be getting.

Carlos has shown a willingness every summer to work hard and comes back a much improved player. The coaches have been guiding him along across the board but they may now concentrate on specific skills. Lets see what becomes of it. He is a unique athlete and has the right frame of mind. I for one wrote him off but he has proven he may still make the grade

Why were you excited about the prospect of getting Maguire? Have you watched any football in the last three years? Brisbane have done us a massive favour.

Re: Carlos, you even said yourself that he played a couple of good games last year. In my opinion some of his performances last year were excellent (particularly against St Kilda and Fremantle), and he proved that he might still make the grade as a strong-marking hardworking CHF. Injuries, not lack of talent, upset his season.

And you are yet again perpetuating the myth that O'hAilpin has bad skills. His kicking around the ground is actually better than average, and his kicking for goal is fairly good. If we can get an injury free year out of Carlos he will be an important component in our structure, or at the very least a more than adequate back-up CHF.

Certainly remember Carlos being instrumental in turning our fortunes versus Freo at Subi.
Has a lot of heart...lets see how far it can take him

I suggest you get a copy of the Carlton vs. Fremantle game. :thumbsu:

He is crap. I cringe when people have him in their line-ups. He's 27 also. A true no hoper.

Utter, UTTER garbage.

He's yet to get to the point where we can say we've seen the best he can produce, and one thing he did demonstrate last year is that he can now take an excellent contested grab.

He was one of the better centre-half forwards last year for a few rounds in succession until Fev mistook him for Ted Richards.

He may well hold down CHF in 2010.

I honestly don't know what some supporters watch when they go to the footy.

I'll go on record as saying this even though I didn't put it on my prediction thread response -- someone quote me for this.

Setanta O'hAilpin will be the most improved player in the AFL next season. What I don't mean is someone who had limited opportunities in the AFL last year (e.g. Lachlan Henderson) but from the players who were more than a regular part of their team last year, the single most improved player.

I'm not expecting 50 goals or whatever, though it wouldn't out and out shock me. What I'm saying is that people will be questioning "Where has this come from?" in regards to his play next year. He'll contribute to the team's success mightily.

Hello angry supporter. I actually think Carlos' disposal, while looking quite awkward, is of a surprisingly good standard. He may be 27yo, but physically, this is prime time for most players, especially KPP. His development is still taking place at the rate of a 21yo, so there is improvement left for sure and signs of that were starting to emerge prior to his injury.

He is a viable KPF option, while obviously not being a lock, even more so in a Fev-less forward line where he will get more opportunities rather than feeding from the scraps that can't make it to Fev. At this crucial time only a few good years from the lad would be a God send for the Blues.

Whats so exciting about that, Austin, Henderson and O'hailpin all had better years than Maguire last year.

He already is a key position player for us. Provides a big, tall athletic target for brilliant smalls/flankers to crumb too, attacks every contest as hard as he can and has really improved his marking. At least give him a chance as a main target now that Fev is gone before starting a thread shitcanning him.

Yeah you wouldn't want anymore quality players running around for the team would you
Ever thought some of these midfielders might free some of our current stars up a bit to be even more damaging, like Judd getting some help at the clearances, Gibbs being able to roam across half back a bit more to set play up or Murphy being able to play more across half forward?

Really? Just the Freo game? Why not get a copy of every other game this season when he did next to nothing in most of them. Face it, everyone likes him because his passionate and wants to succeed. I want him to succeed to but he is about what 26 or 27 now? If he doesn't have a break out year next year he probably won't make it at AFL level. Football is cruel sometimes but I can't see the club not thinking of him as a liability if he doesn't start to really come good next season on a consistent basis.

I just want to add that I really hope he can become a great contributor in our forwardline in years to come. I don't care if he doesn't kick 40-50 goals per year, as long as he applies pressure and creates opportunities and can slot the important one's I'll be happy with him.

Best you start out with "this is not a troll" It's the BF protocol for trolling other teams boards ..you and the OP need to brush up on your trolling skills.

PS..If your not a troll ...you are a moron .

I don't agree with the OP or Tanks_Alot... however it seems like on this board no one can have a different opinions. Every time people share their opposing opinions... they get howled down, degrated and labelled as trolls... what Tanks_alot said isn't moronic nor is it trolling... it's his opinion in which he was tring to justify...

Agreed. The amount of complete and utter shit being posted on this board is becoming unbearable.

I've been doing a bit of browsing on some other team's boards reading their reactions to their new draftees and you see nothing like the level of puerile rubbish that has infected this place. Most of the posters on those boards actually appear to understand football, and don't spend their time hysterically shitcanning anything and everything associated with their club.

But not on the Carlton board. Here, every thread inevitably gets overrun by generally moronic posters whose inability to spell, use accurate punctuation or demonstrate any actual insights into what makes football such a wonderful game is truly staggering.

Agreed. I can see why someone would have little confidence in Carlos. It's been a while and in truth he has yet to deliver. Although the negativity of some posters can get a bit much at times, this is a discussion forum, so why not put forth your ideas of why the poster has got it wrong and leave the shit-canning out of it.

Is this the Carlos who kicked the goals that got us back into the game against Freo that I am reading about?

There was nothing wrong with his work at CHF last season and the only reason it all went to hell was because Fevola smashed him at a contest. He is a good contested mark and is good on his second effort at winning a ball if he doesnt mark it.

I can see him holding down CHF for the next couple of years until Henderson is ready to take over that position properly.

I agree part of it.I didn't care for Mcguire as i reckon he would have been a list clogger for a few years top. I guess we have to see what happen in the pre season cup to see how the set up will go. It's going to be a rough time for many. The only key forward with history to have done something as a forward is Brad Fisher who got do what Quenton Leach did for the Eagles but isn't built like him.

I really don't see Ohailipin or Austin doing much or anyone else. The long shot is Waite if he can come back good or Kreuzer. I be suprised if Henderson can kick more then 40 goals a season in his first year.
