Until we've redeemed last year's finals loss (with interest) this thread should be closed because we're probably not going to learn a whole lot from home and away games. This endless cycle of "we won JLO is God sucked in HATERS" & "we lost JLO is shit happy clappers BTFO" is a bit cringe and only exists to tickle each camp's confirmation biases. Finals is where he proves himself, one way or the other.

Dude, literally no one is saying JLo is God. If that's you're interpretation then that's on you. It's JL haters and people calling out JL haters for stupid bias.

Literally no one is backing in JL as infallible.

Credit where it's due. From about 6 mins to go in the 4th, we went into a clear 'win the game' set of set plays that were super well drilled. I was pretty confident that baring some magic, we'd come out on top. Still, past trauma meant I still shat my pants the whole time.

I thought he had a poor night in the box. Collingwood dominated field position all game, and that's on JLo.
Correct, a lot of people on here seem to think the criticism is about wins and losses. It isn’t.

He has improved as has the team in clutch moments, that is clear so far this year, but his gameplan is still a long way off being a premiership winning one.

He probably owes Lachie Schultz a beer for missing from 10m out directly in front.

Wasn’t his best coaching game, the conditions suited their set up far more than ours so it was always going to be close.
Reminded me of last year with a few wins from behind where we opened up & attacked late to get the job done. Is that plan B or plan A? Anyway I enjoy the gear shift.
But the Adelaide-Collingwood results are a far better result than the Carlton-Port games a couple of years ago.

The positive is the improvement late in the game when it was close. We were more methodical and never really looked like conceding a late goal.

The negative was that an opposition coach managed to take away our handball game and we reverted to bombing to their spare defenders.

So basically JLo continues to improve parts of his strategy but we still have what could end up a fatal flaw in our game plan.

The team is playing with a unity, determination and belief I haven’t seen since the best of Lyon days.

No team dominates for 4 Q against high quality opposition and with the recent short breaks and extra travel we needed to punch even & keep something in the tank for when the game was on the line.
We did it very well.

We’re 4/1 after a tough couple of weeks so a lot is going right.

Can’t ask for more than that.

Come on guys. We saw great coaching on display last night, it was a huge factor in what got us the W. Treacy to defence was brilliant. As a side we didn't fall apart at any stage but stuck to what we thought would get us through. We out-clutched the Kings of Clutch for the past few years. Our lads are playing with determination and never-say-die. Our only loss of teh season was one we expected to lose. Knocking off Adelaide and Collingwood two weeks in a row is just fabulous.

I confess, I'm a swinger.

After our humiliations to open 2025 after JLo's 'vanilla' comment I posted that I'd lost interest and was just waiting for JLo's sacking. I was W.R.O.N.G.

I think that of the 6-7 contenders Freo has the most upside in the season. We have absolutely earned Top 4 favouritism and from there anything is possible.

Go Freo. Go JLo. This is a great ride. Everyone needs to get onboard.

Agree, but I think the Prancing Pony can stump up the cash. His miss was just as bad.

Surely this thread can be left alone during games? The game day and vent threads exists for the ups and downs of the game day roller coaster.

Like, if we’re going to talk either way about JL, it can wait until the final siren?
Um...surely this thread can be left alone during games...go right ahead.

I would have thought we could wait for losses too but they are too few and far between for some.

IMO the players were "off" last night for the entire first half except Luke Ryan.

Some of them woke up for periods in the second half. Treacy and Voss for example looked asleep for most of the game.

Was a very poor night for most players with decision making, execution and awareness. Does Chapman wear blinders? I'm over Worner..

Saved by Dudley, Johnson and Amiss.

And why doesn't Macrae get the shit Lyon does for playing that kind of game style?

Yep, I've been a JLo doubter for many years but there's clear and obvious improvement this year.

We're banking wins against tough teams and we're sitting top 4 despite playing 3 of the top 4 teams from last year already in our 5 games. There surely comes a time where you just let yourself enjoy the season and see how it all plays out instead of agonising over minutiae.

They had 61 inside 50s and kept them to 5 goals...

The backline is like the sole reason they won

It was a bad coaching night for JL, let’s be honest. He could not get us to play the conditions well at all and couldn’t get us to move the ball out of Collingwood’s defence.

That said, our clutch time drills are very good now which is also on JL. We are well structured and know what to do in win the game or save the game scenarios, his levers of Treacy to defense when we’re up, or Pearce to forward when we’re down (didn’t need this one last night) work consistently well. Treacy knows he stuffed up v GC last year and mentioned it a few times last night post match, you can see that burns for him.

Both these things can be true, you don’t need to be a tribalism weirdo and think he sucks all the time or is perfect all the time. He was out coached for a lot of last night but due to some luck from Collingwood not capitalising, we were in a position to win and he helped us seize it.
