If the Tigers are going to pick Sherman up, I wouldn't want to pay that much for him, taking incount his 'bigish' contract, is he worth it?

Why are all the Richmond supporters so sure he wants to go there? He will have meetings with every club that are giving interest in him.
Would be very happy with him at the dogs. Perfect fit.
Yeah today's Herald Sun seems to imply that the Bulldogs are leading the chase, but also mentions that Carlton are interested too.
Amusingly, the Weekend Australian was talking up Richmond's chances. So in other words, no one has a clue.
You would think clubs with a premiership window would be more keen to secure his services though. If St Kilda lose another Grand Final, I think they would be very keen to get Sherman or maybe Tambling (I still don't rate Peake).

Not sold on his 400k a year contract. We pay Griffen that much...
He'd be a good fit though. We need speed through our midfield.
If the Lions got something decent in return for Sherman I am thinking they would do that although it might be 100k each year of the remaining two years. This would be on the proviso that he did not reneg his contract as has been mentioned to be the case with Richmond.
Correct me if I'm wrong but FS Bidding or whatever its called occurs prior to trade week. The Bulldogs have committed to both Wallis and Liberatone you would think which means their first live pick in the draft is in the 3rd Round (a late one at that seeing how high they finished). It has been reported that Brisbane are only in the market for picks how is a trade between the two clubs going to be worked out for Sherman seeing as pick 47 (or whatever it is) would not be fair compensation.
We also have the late first rounder for Harbrow
It really does beg the question... How can the dogs be allowed to trade their GC compensation pick, which is before their 2nd round selection, if they are also supposed to give up their first 2 selections for Libba & Wallis under the F/S bidding system?
I'm having a hard time reconciling this. I can definitely see the AFL forcing them to either use the compensation pick for the F/S bidding, or preventing them from trading it in 2010.

It would be fair if they didn't exercise the compo pick this year. They could therefore trade it with it being able to be used after this year. So a future first round pick rather than a first rounder this year.It really does beg the question... Umm.. no. You're not trading Harbrow - and we're not trading Bock. GC have until the middle of trade week to sign uncontracted players, but our players are already gone and the picks have been announced. The F/S is done before trade week. The Harbrow transaction will be done during trade week. So the Dogs would not have the Harbrow pick when the F&S occurs.
It's the same any player getting traded, it's just we already know the outcome of the trade before it happens.

The only club likely to be in this position is Geelong, but reports indicate that his defection will be formally announced on Friday (the day after their Club Champion award), with his Band 1 status a mere formality.
The AFL have made a real mess here. By saying that clubs can trade the compensation picks one year, with the receiving club using them in another year, they've really screwed things and created a lot of uncertainty. If I were in charge I would say that the dogs can't have their cake and eat it too - they either use their compo pick for the F/S bidding, or they are prevented from trading it in 2010. Then again, I'm not in charge...
