Kane Lucas

Seriously, are we all watching different games? I've picked some highlights (well, low-lights) from the third quarter (I don't have that much time on my hands ;) )

I tried not to upload it to YouTube where it could spread negatively, hopefully it just stays in this thread. Mods, feel free to delete if you feel it's overstepping the purpose of this thread. To me however, it's a roast thread and I'm trying to highlight some of the reasons I believe Lucas needs to be developed in the VFL for a bit.

No player is perfect by any means, but some here seem reluctant to criticize young players at all or simply refuse to acknowledge any issues from the last game except for that 'one miss'. Also, he has an outside role, if he's not going to be unaccountable he should have good decision making in such an important role.

Didnt see anything in those that were drop worthy. 1st one was a shit kick from simpson and he lost his feet, backed it up with a tackle. Another he got pushed while having a kick, no biggun it happens. One crappy kick that went to fletcher, one he should have kicked but missed (these happen). Another a good pass to kreuzer who missed shot he should have kicked (nobody calling for kruezer to be dropped).

Lucas needs games. Has shown some good form this year. Sure he needs to work on things, in particular toughness and tackling but play him now and in 2 years time we will reap the rewards.

See guys like Walker (who lucas reminds me alot of early days), gibbs, carrazzo. These guys all had some glaring issues early in their career. But come 4-5 years into the system (80+ senior games) then you get the reward.

Backed it up with an extremely weak tackle that allowed the handball out. He got pushed during his kick but he had ample time to get the kick off before the push. Crappy kick from 30m out. Crappy kick from 4m out. Good pass is debatable, clearly a <10m kick, but yes I nearly left it out.

This was just one quarter. His role requires him to have good decision making and clinical finishing, neither of which he has at this stage. It's a shame I can't think of a better role for him in the team myself.

He's only young, has plenty of time. Even if some of the current list are on their way..

He certainly finds space for himself, makes me wonder where his man is... which makes it doubly important that his disposal be better. REALLY weak in tackles and defensively... I see him as our next Kade Simpson.

This is stupidity. You can trawl through a game and pick out five turnovers / clangers / mistakes for each player.

I reckon if #5 had not won a premiership and brownlow before getting to the Blues there'd be some questioning his football talent and collating his five mistakes per game into a lowlights reel.

Really pathetic stuff.

Get over yourself. Clanger tapes are as relevant as highlight reels when discussing player development.

Do you really think that those at the club interested in the development of a young player focus only on lowlights? Seriously? Mistakes, errors, whatever, have a place IN CONTEXT. They need to be set alongside the strengths of a player to give a balanced views.

They also need to appreciate that this guy is part of a team. One of those goals - the Crameri one - saw a bad umpiring error that cost Murph a free, Hendo being outmarked, Jamo being outpositioned and Tuohy not sticking a tackle ...

The very idea of setting up a "roast" thread in relation to a player who is just establishing himself in the senior team, has worked his way into some reasonable form, still has gaps in his game but is on a very pleasing improvement curve is absurd.

It doesn't mean he's beyond criticism, but how about saving it for the discussion of who's in / out and why rather than creating a roast thread and posting self-serving videos.

Are you that feeble? You need a parallel positive thread before you can access a player's overall abilities? Do you watch games?

This doesn't make it right but West Coast would be happy to trade their pick #7 being Sheppard, for our pick #12 in Lucas from the same draft.
Lucas clearly has plenty of positives to his game but also has some glaring deficiencies.

Mick has given him a very good run and if he is dropped back to the VFL to harden up, then so be it.
If not, then we must be happy on what we're getting out of Lucas or we just don't have anything else suitable. Pretty simple.

Prepare to be baked for blaming Lucas for the loss. That's as far as the supporters of everything navy can see.

That's a fair analysis, he's played 10/11 games this year, I think if Mick doesn't drop him this week then he's clearly going to play until the end of the season. I would guess it's the lack of options to replace him.

People who are happy to accept the basic skill and execution errors from 'a' Lucas - should also have NO expectations about being a finals side - simple as that. You can't have your cake and eat it. It isn't just Lucas - too many of our players are far below good, let alone elite users of the ball.

Making it personal to me is pointless.

Yeah, I watch whole games, not just just the parts of games that suit the creation of a "roast" thread for a guy who does not deserve a roast thread.

There's great competition for the wing / HFF role in our team and I'd love to see more of Menzel and Buckley.

Let me make it clear: I am not against dropping Lucas to the NBs to work on aspects of his game. He's a young developing player after all.
