"Keeping The Lid On"

Like everyone here, I'm stoked with the efforts of the Eagles so far in 2011. Not only are we winning games, and winning them well, but in general, the game play is so far removed from last year, it's extraordinary.

It's with a great amount of pride that I can implore you all, for the first time since 2007, to keep the lid on.



The reason for this is a series of texts/calls I got from a mate of mine, who also goes for the Eagles, picking us for top 4, then top 2, then emailing me his incredibly hopeful 'predictor' results which see us playing off with the Swans for the flag again.

Raises the question, what do you expect for the rest of the year? What would you be happy with? Is it good enough to be the feel-good story of the year, sneaking into the 8, or are we the real deal?

Do we even have a lid?

Why does any supporter need to "keep a lid on it"? My level of enthusiasm has no bearing on the club.

If the club get carried away on the otherhand...

Having said that, I agree with the above - making finals is the aim this year.

yawn..one week at a time.
havent beaten teams above us except for an undermanned freo (at home)..
the doggies were missing a few,and may not have been up to par on the day(travel?)
and we're not even halfway thru the season yet..
a few games after collingwood will reveal where we are really at..as in keep the lid screwed on tight, or blow the lid right off!!??

Anyone else hear Barra on 94.5 this morning? Yes, I know you yung'uns don't know which station that is, but...he's let the lid open wide, enjoy it and go for it, he said.

You might as well enjoy this win, we may not win next week, we may lose to Gold Coast, but why not enjoy this one? Biggest winning margin since '95, and that was a fair team in '95.

This year should just be a year of enjoyment. After a horrible few seasons, there's the opportunity to just enjoy the ups and downs that this year brings.

It's when we're closer to the ultimate that the real pressure and lid-keeping-on begins.

I realistically at this stage am predicting 9th or 10th on the ladder by seasons end. Strange that 9 rounds in and we still dont have much idea as to how we are going. Collingwood away will definitely give us a better indications as to where we sit amongst the pack.

No idea how we are going? Three loses, all to top eight sides, all under three goals, two on the road. A six goal win, a 10 goal win, a 20 goal win. Wins without lecca in the team, with no Kerr and embly. Cox, Glass, Butler, Shuey all in AA form. Kennedy is traveling ok and I owe the big q an apology.

Write us off against the pies at your peril. We're just getting started.

We need to focus on winning this years flag before we worry about back to back.
