Thomas believed it wasn’t a failed season.

“We thought that we could just sneak into the finals. As we got into the season and we started to see signs of our best footy, we thought if we could just sneak in, we could be a bit dangerous, that’s why we are disappointed,” he explained.

We are deep in the mediocrity mire now.

'SNEAK IN'

The Bombers snuck in, the Dogs snuck in, the damn Lions finished 2nd, and the Giants remain incredibly poorly coached rabble and snuck in. We could've been better than all those clubs instead we see absolutely no change in results, regardless of some absolutely dominant statistical areas.

And why in the world is sneaking in our goal??? Our high watermark for success is to sneak into finals.

FFS.

Unbelievable. Why does that mentality not surprise me with our current administrators.
That is a disgraceful attitude. That’s not the ruthless attitude of the past.

There is absolutely no guarantee that we are on an upward trajectory based on the improvement and promise of our under 23s.

The lack of decent contributors in the 23-28y bracket may make the promise of the under 23s completely wasted for the next 3 years.

Our list management in retrospect has been poor. In trading away early draft picks at the end of 2013 (Polec), 2014 (Ryder) and 2015 (Dixon), we have missed out on 3 first round selections who now would have been aged 21-24. And what did we gain in the process?

Hold onto our first round picks from here on, unless it is to secure an A-grade talent aged under 23.

In July, Mr Thomas told fans in an open letter that he is to blame for their on-field woes.

Speaking to ABC Radio Adelaide today, he said all he was trying to do was shift the conversation away from Hinkley.

"At that point, it was very full-on and very one-dimensional," he said.

insincere deflection then

Treating members with disdain.

Yep.

In 3-4 years you'd suspect Rozee will take that next step up, Butters as well. Duursma may already be at his level as he's already very good. Houston is already playing great. Amon career best year, etc. Then Robbie, Boak, Rockliff, Dixon, Ebert, HH, etc all on the downward slide.

I'm not sure where the immediate jump is coming from. Maybe Marshall might be ready for a big year. maybe Burton takes a leap? Maybe Ladhams excels as the 2nd ruck/fwd? Maybe we nail our 1st draft pick?

Right now you'd be crazy to think that anything other than another mid table year would be unlikely.

Port Power CEO Keith Thomas has put an end to speculation that he will step down as boss of the club.

Mr Thomas confirmed today that he will continue as CEO next year, while backing head coach Ken Hinkley to see out his contract, which runs out in 2021.

How very nice of Keith. We've progressed from no one's to blame in 2017, because Ken is great and 'let's make him a 10 year coach', to everyone's to blame. Using the Bigfooty trade logic here, it's obviously 100 'You're a naughty boy / girl' stern talkings to from Koch down to Alfie is equivalent to 1 sacking the head coach.

I must have missed the bit at the members convention I wasted money on where Keith said we were hoping to "just sneak into finals" at best.

I remember the bit where he said they "hadn't decided" on the captaincy issue though.

KT is really grasping at straws, he is also a master at deflecting from the very real issue and instead talking about things that while important do not in any way address the issues that have plagued us for years now - when it's hard we are soft.

It won't matter who we have playing for us as in broad terms the bar is just set too damn low and every single player knows it and most abuse it as they see fit. The very issues we have now are issues we have had since about mid 2014 and while at times we we have moments for a vast majority of times when it really matters we get opened up like few others do.

The start of the Collingwood game, the start of the Hawthorn game, the start of the Western Bulldogs game, the start of the home game against Brisbane, all games where when the opposition are prepared to go real hard at us we can't respond. Against the might of Nth Melb it was for a whole game. In most of those games once the real heat of the contest was out of the game we managed to claw back some level or respect but they all knew they had us at every moment of the game.

These games, these quarters or moments have always been a trademark of Hinkley coached teams and nothing changed in that regard at all this year. We certainly changed our style from the abhorrent defensive mess it was last year. We definitely were (at times) really good to watch this year but there's still a flat track bully element to us and that hasn't changed at all. We had (at the time) very impressive wins against Melbourne, West Coast, Geelong and Adelaide throughout the year but were still beaten by sides that were decimated like Richmond and later GWS. The year while different still shows all the signs of weakness when it matters most.

Melbourne was a great win to start with until we realised Melbourne were actually poor this year. West Coast was amazing but did we just get them on an off night? Geelong was again an exceptional win but just possibly they really do have issues playing after the bye, and we all know that no matter how pleasing and awesome it was beating Adelaide by such a margin it became apparent shortly after that Adelaide are cooked.

So the issues to me personally have never really been about the number of wins or even where we finish on the ladder, but more about putting together the pieces required to eventually be a contender over a period of time and having people in charge that know what's required to become that side. Hinkley either doesn't see that or won't implement standards required to achieve those outcomes.

Our failures always play to the same tune. Guys go missing, unseen. Players unwilling to show leadership, to be the one to change momentum when it's obvious somebody needs to. Comical skill execution or decision making by even the most experienced when it really matters most. These are all trade marks of a Hinkley led side and have been for over 5 years now and it won't matter what draft picks we have, who we trade for, how often the list has new shiny toys to admire the end result will always be the same until the issue of softness is addressed.

We will look good when allowed to, we occasionally may look good when not expected to but for the most part we will fail when it's hot.

KT doesn't see the underbelly. He's kidding himself and the supporters by suggesting we are improving when infact we are only improving in the attractiveness of our footy when others aren't prepared to fight back too hard.

That acceptance of a softness has held us back for years and will continue to do so unless Hinkley demands and then enforces it's complete removal.

KT tries to sound thoughful, considered and on top of everything but to me it was nothing more than spin. There is not one single piece of evidence that anything of substance has really changed and all they are doing is doubling down on the wrong horse for the immediate future.

I wasn't disappointed to hear Keith Thomas' vote of confidence in Ken Hinkley on tonight's SEVEN News as I expected it. What I was disappointed to hear was KT say that the side was making progress and that Ken Hinkley was safe for 2020 and possibly 2021 and beyond. Thomas did not have to mention 2021 and beyond as that is supposed to be dependent upon 2020. Not a great way to appease the pissed off members like me.

I have always had a soft spot for KT but comments like those make me think he might be part of the problem.

KT also acknowledged that the Club was aware that the appointment of Co Captains had upset people like me. KT did not say anything would change but the reporter said the decision could be under review. Too ****ing late now imo as the damage has been done and the w***ers running the show should have anticipated the likely reaction before they endorsed Hinkley's stupid suggestion.

KT is like the others running the show at Alberton they learn **** all from their mistakes and for a guy that promised changes a few weeks back tonight's interview sounded a lot like business as usual.

Dame Edna Everage once said, "Even from my earliest days, I had perfected the art of laughing at the misfortunes of others." It seems to adequately sum up the disdain the monkeys in charge at Alberton have for the opinions of club members - we state categorically that we want the club to make a fresh start, but barely 12 hours after the end of yet another failed season, we're told, "Don't be silly guys - success is just around the corner, and we're sticking with the status quo." Well I don’t buy it: there's no proof that Ken will suddenly stumble on the magic formula, allowing us to climb into the 8. I hope I'm wrong!!!

I wasn't happy with his appointment and got absolutely slammed for saying so and hear we are.

I think I'll hazard a guess that this is revisionist.

I recall many being very wary and accusing it of being an AFL/SANFL plant.

He won us over because he started with such a well orchestrated bang. However in hindsight it was more selling hope than substance.
