Seems to be handling things well at the moment and he is really just a figurehead anyway. A talented board can do the work and let Sticks be the public face that people relate to. A president is but one vote on the board and at least this way, he wouldn't be anybody's yes man!!

I was ambivalent about Sticks as prez, but I'm warming to it. Being on the board for nine years is both a liability and a benefit. We've all heard the liabilities.

However he's also proven that he can get along with any of the factions, and he's the one bloke that never gets backstabbed. He provides a unifying force when we most need one. Further, if anyone was going to bring back big money to the club, it would be on the back of his name. I can't imagine a big supporter holding out on Sticks like they're rumoured to have done to Smorgon.

He doesn't strike me as a brilliant administrator, or business leader, but that's where his fellow directors have to support him. Unifying our fractured supporter base is quite possibly beyond any current director other than Sticks.

He has one important skill, Leadership !

He may not have the business skills of other board members but he can lead that board and the club.

I have raised this possibility before today, Sticks is a fantastic leader and can rally people to work together all in one direction, any weaknesses he has will be covered by a more than capable board.

That's a great summary AD.
If he can get the support from his fellow Board Members on issues like admin and the like as you say AD, then maybe Sticks is the right person for the job.

Do we no longer believe that the strong mutual 'love' that exists between Sticks and the media will be to the detriment of the club?
IMO while Smorgon was a great business leader, his biggest shortcoming as president of a football club was his inability to work the media.
Media can be a very powerful tool to a football club, especially with a president who knows how to work it -a la Eddie (who was brilliant in taking it further and translating it to SERIOUS sponsorship $$$).
Of course the reverse is equally (even more so?) applicable, and we have been victims of that side of the coin for far too long already.
Carr is definitely not the answer, neither would be Dave Hughes, but are there others with strong media influence/presence that might work? Walls, Lane...?
Other than this point, I'm in total agreement with AD though.

i generally hate talking about things that aren't footy related, but anyway.

Is this a adangerous move? If Kernahan becomes president, does that mean it's a matter of time before he isn't at the club anymore? This is certainly the fate of previous presidents.

I like your summary AD.

I've always liked Sticks on-field, he's always stood by the club off-field, and has stuck with us through all this cr@p.

Dont know about his skills, but i do know he'd be in it for the club, not for him.
