What? Suban maybe, but Barlow?
I can't think of what we could possibly get in return to make trading Barlow worth it.
In my opinion the Fremantle Football Club has two separate identities. The first is the history before Round 2 of 2010 and the second after Round 2 of 2010. On that day Michael Barlow got 34 possessions and we beat Essendon in Melbourne. On that day we changed as a club and we haven't looked back. Michael Barlow more than anyone else changed the culture of the club, for the better. He is off limits for trading.

Well yeah, but Melbourne aren't going to trade Hogan for Barlow (even if we threw in Suban). But I was more looking at the Reid deal with Sydney and the comment that Barlow was being looked at as part of that deal. Sydney don't really have the picks or the sort of player that would be on the table that would warrant Barlow being considered.
If you change that sentence to Suban and Michie/Mellington then yes I would consider it and I like Suban a lot.
But it would have to be of that type to trade away players who are buying in. Look at the Sydney example - they bring players into their culture from other clubs with success all the time but rarely trade away players unless the player is very keen to go (Jolly, White are examples cannot think of many leaving the Swans). If you want to build a culture you don't go shopping players who are keen to stay and are contributing.
Suban and Michie aren't going to cut it though for that kind of deal.
If (and this is all idle speculation on my part) Barlow really is on the table, Michie's situation probably has something to do with it.
If the club rates Michie as highly as many on here, they may well be thinking that Michie can step into Barlow's position, so we trade Mick B at the top of his value to get something juicy and simultaneously use this as leverage to keep Viv. As I say all speculation, but remotely plausible.
The amount of talk about Hogan is getting annoying now. We aren't getting him. Paul Roos has already stated that he wants him to sign a long term deal. He'll be offered a fair bit of coin. IF he were to leave, there'd be 17 other clubs ready to pounce. Guys here need to give it up, it seems highly unlikely. Lets just talk about 2014, as he's clearly not apart of it.
I get what you're saying, but I can't believe I have to say it again. (This isn't a shot at you) People, please use your brains, it's soo ridiculously obvious that we wont trade Mundy/Barlow/Fyfe, seriously people that's beyond commonsense. Can we use our brains now?

It would destroy the fabric of the team to trade him out. Everyone loves him, especially after what he has gone through.
Was interesting speaking to Sylvia in LA, and how when they delisted James McDonald it just screwed the whole place up. He didn't want to leave, the others wanted him to stay, he was crying, etc.
There's a bigger picture involved. You might be able to bring someone in that you want, but the effect on the playing group could be disastrous and completely destroy any benefit from acquiring say Hogan.

I love Micky B, but to get quality you have to let go of quality. Sydney is not a team who is difficient in the midfield, so I don't know why they keep coming up. It would be picks for sure if Ried was the target.

Trading for Reid is not quality though.
We are talking about Sam Reid from Sydney aren't we. This has been his break out season and he has kicked a total of 7 goals. To me he looks like a poor man's Justin Koschitzke.
If we end up at the end of this trading period with a 0.7 goal a game key forward and a 19 possession a game Melbourne mid-fielder I'll be underwhelmed to say the least.
He is half the player his brother is
Barlow was 7th favourite for the Brownlow a couple of weeks ago. He's certainly quality. Next year he should be even better.
This was his breakout season, ohh you've only just realized who Sam Reid is, that's cool. This year was his worst year by a long shot. Add that to the fact he was injured and it shows how much you know about him. Who are you anyway?

Bit harsh isn't it? You say it was a break out year for him, yet he only played about 10 minutes of football after Rd 9. He'll end up a much better player than Koschitzke regardless.
Just lol. Reid had 2 quad injuries.
Reid, when fit, would be the perfect foil for Pav. Hard leading, very strong over head.
I would like to see the club chase someone like Kristian Jacsch (GWS pick 12, 2012). Drafted last year he would be contracted. But with Cameron, Patton and possibly Boyd it will make it very difficult for him forward to say the least, although he can play back as well. I would be happy to package our 1st rounder with a player for the deal.

Reid should be the target, young and great talent. IF we somehow get him he can be molded either up forward or down back. Obviously we'd try him up forward first.
