Andrew Lee & Courtney Johns are all our tall forwards up for trade, but they aren't going cheaply.

Meh we have enough young key forward talent on our list.

Walker is tearing up the SANFL and will be a star.

Tippett is going to be very good full forward, with an elite contested mark.

Sellars potential is there, its just a matter of timing and development.

Hentschel will be back.

I'm kind of hoping Boyle will ask to be traded and the club will do the right thing by him and let him go for a 3rd rounder so he can go somewhere where he'll get a game.

He's not a superstar, but he'd be a handy second tall for a team who will actually kick it to him, and he plays the lead up to the wings role well aswell, which is something the Hawks don't do.

He missed most of this year after getting a huge hip cork (Franklin landed on him in a marking contest), but just got back on the park and kicked 8 in his second VFL game despite still hobbling a bit.

At the right price, I wouldn't say no to either of Hansen nor Boyle, we need a CHF and Gill probably isn't the answer. Hopefully a Sellar/Hentschel/Tippet can fill it, but with our luck on key forwards, I just wouldn't count on it.

I would also like to see Melbourne try and get young Tasmanian, Mitch Thorp from the Hawks. As it currently stands he is well down the pecking order at the Hawks and unless there are some long term injuries there he will not see many AFL games. He has Franklin, Roughead, Boyle all in front of him and the first two as we all know are the best two young key forwards in the comp.

I know that he has recently re-signed for another two years but that means nothing these days. I'm not sure what we could offer them to get this deal over the line as I'm sure they would drive a fairly hard deal for a big key forward that has been playing fairly well at VFL level.

I would be interested to see if anyone else has an opinion on Thorp and if they think it is someone we should be chasing come trade time. If so, what needs to be done to make this happen?

Any interest in Hughes. Im thinking the two Adelaide clubs would be the best option. He lacks a bit of intensity but is a fantastic kick and great on the lead.

He was a second rounder and has shown he can be a goal kicker so i would expect at least a mid 2nd round pick.

If he can play CHF (?) we'd be interested. He played very well against us.

It really is getting annoying reading people talking about poaching Mitch Thorp. The only people who say it are those who have no idea about him or have not seen any of his games. To begin with IF HE WAS FIT HE WOULD OF PLAYED FOR HAWTHORN THIS YEAR. As it stands, he has spent the whole of 2008 with limited time and games at Box hill. He is recovering from hip surgery he had a the start of the year and only towards the end of the year did he really look fit enough to run out a whole game. Of what little he played at Box hill this year, he did so primarily as a roaming centre half back, who, when conditions suited, would occasionally play as a lead up forward pocket/wingman. It is not as though he has been toiling away in the forward line, missing out on selection every week due to Buddy + Roughy.

On the proviso that he can get his first full preseason under his belt this year, he should be looking at playing a few games at Hawthorn in 2009 as a 3rd tall down back, or forward when required. Before cementing himself for 2010.

Johnny Segment - Re: Mitch Thorp

I realise that he has a few injuries but the fact remains that he is behind Franklin & Roughead and playing VFL. I can't see that changing any time soon! I also can't see Hawthorn playing three 195+ cm forwards in the one forward line.

I take note of your point that he could be used as a backman & could quite possibly be turned into one in the future but as it stands he is a forward. I have thrown it up as a trade possibility that he would be worth trying to pursue from a Melbourne supporters perspective as we don't have any big key forwards.

As for poaching, that’s what happens when you have talented young players not playing in your senior team, whether that is due to injury or available position.

I think the Hawks would drive a very hard deal & rightly so, but there is no point getting upset over my opinion of Melbourne attempting to trade for him.

I think you'd have more luck chasing Dowler than Thorp, although from the snippets I've heard there isn't much interest in trading either.

Just wondering if anyone has been keeping an eye Todd Grima, playing at Glenelg, kicked 50 for the year and i thought was unlucky to be delisted by Geelong last year. Is he capable of holding down a key forward post in the AFL?? Can he take that next step??
