This hails as a good test for us. On paper they match up well so was after some opinions on how everyone thinks we should tackle next week..

Pavlich - Clearly needs to be stopped. I think Reid should get the job when he's at CHF. I don't think they will tag him when he pinch hits in the middle but i have no idea who to use if they do. I think wellingham is the obvious choice if fit but i would like to seem him run with Barlow instead.

Sandi when he's up forward?? Freo's forward line will test us this week and i'm not so sure Presti has a match up unless they want him for this exact reason. Stop Sandi in the forward line. I think Brown will go to him here, with the 3rd man up at every contest being maxwell.

I wanna see Harry on Ballantyne... I think this is a match up he can totally dominate, as long as Ballantyne doesnt get under harry's skin.

Shaw on Mayne. He will outrun him and dominate the back half.

I think this week we need 2 specialist ruckman to combat Sandi so i'd stick with Wood and Jolly.

Thoughts?

I look at FREO's team and wonder how they could have gone so badly last year.

Pavlich, Barlow and Hill are the ones that need to be stopped. I'd say Sandi too but I dont think he can be stopped at all.

Will be a great challenge! Glad its on Friday so we get an extra day to rest up for the clash against the Cats.

Fair bit of difference last year..

Barlow wasn't around
Sandi was as good but didn't have the cattle in the midfield to take advantage of his ruck work (Hill/Suban were in their first year, Palmer was injured and Mundy was still afraid of his own shadow).
Pavlich coulnd't spend any time in the forward line

Swan to Pavlich in the middle. He has the strength and is good overhead. Presti when deep forward.

I was going to say Wellingham to Hill given the pace, but Wellingham is the one they should be tagging, so scratch that. Possibly Thomas and Hill to go head-to-head?

If Brown plays, he takes Sandi when forward; if not, Maxy plays a few feet off him and goes the fist.

Would also like to keep an eye on Mundy, and someone to keep Hayden as accountable as possible.

Who'll get Tarrant?
Tarrant will go on Cloke.
Michael Johnson will go on Dawes.
pencil it in.

Pavlich will go forward... presti will take him and Maxwell will go back to help him.

Jolly and Wood will hopefully run rings around Sandilands both are more faster and run longer.

Uhhh I take if you haven't watched much Freo recently?

Johnson is playing forward, and if you think Jolly and Wood will be able to use their mobility to beat Sandi, check out last week's derby and Naita and Cox vs. Sandi... Sandi won overall.

Compare us to west coast.

I'm not, the Pies are a much much better football team than the Eagles. I was talking specifically about rucks vs Sandilands. Lots of teams have promised that their rucks will beat Sandi this year, but none have. Don't think that will change Friday night, not confident on beating you guys though, playing some magical football.

Jolly and Wood won't go close to beating Sandilands in the ruck. He is in exceptional form, in the ruck and around the ground.

We just need to make sure they don't get smashed in the hitouts [at least win 20 or so between them] and do some damage around the ground, particularly Jolly resting forward.

Midfield battles are always the key at Subiaco.

For me Johnson takes Barlow, Barlow is in super form but looks a tad unaccountable and BJ can hurt going the other way.

Toovey gets Hill, Hill is silky smooth and relies on time and space to use his awesome kicking skills, Toovey will not give him that space and im surprised Hill hasnt been paid more respect.

Haselby always tears us a new one for me Wellingham and him go head to head, while Haselby is excellent in the contest and can sneak forward for a goal Wellingham can expose his lack of pace.

Should pavlich go in the middle he will drift forward at every chance like Goodes tends to do, I reckon we run Mcaffer with him first up as he is more likely to at least create a contest when they spot up Pav anywhere forward of centre, but the form Pav is in its really take your pick i guess.

the game will be played on our terms.. every player knows there role.. its up to fremantle to stop us.. they will be the ones doing the tagging if there is any to be done..

Tarrant on Cloke.
McPharlin on Dawes.

Pavlich and Presti and Maxwell will probably end up on Johnson.

The funny thing about that last bit is most teams go (Insert Ruckman's name here) will use his mobility and run Sandi off his legs..... Most people have said that for the last 2 years and I've yet to see it happen in a game.

Last year playing in Sydney Sandi dominated Jolly and I'd expect the same this week. Even with Wood playing Keplar or Johnson will be able to atleast break even.

Its funny how some people forget we haven't had any sort of decent ruck division for the almost a decade.

Sandi has always dominated against us, but once its on the deck its as good as ours. Now we have Jolly, which only means this season we've gone from guessing to knowing where it is going to be. Funnily enough talking to most people they think, beat us in the ruck and the clearance is as good as theirs.
Oh so wrong. The likes of swan/obi/tarks/leon/didak/medders/thomas/ pendles have long had the ability to read it off the opposition ruck men ingrained into their brains, it aint funny.

Simply dont expect your man mountain to be so dominate against this mob...

Oh and the kid Brown has quietly kept super pav super quiet the last few times they have played.:)

"the game will be played on our terms.. every player knows there role.. its up to fremantle to stop us.. they will be the ones doing the tagging if there is any to be done" THATSGOLD

I hope you let Mick know you don't need to tag Barlow or Hill or Morabito or Suban or Palmer.
I'll let Harvey know he should bring in some stoppers for youer guys.

Wood actually rucks well against Sandilands from memory. Last time we played them he was leaping over him or nullifying his taps.

I personally think it will be a landslide victory to one of the teams. If we shut them down, we will destroy them. If we don't keep it tight i.e. 3rd quarter against Carlton their front runners will carve us.

It should be a very hostile and cracking first quarter... Freo supporters are almost as nuts as us
