Kicking Goals in 2012

I think freo's forward game plan will be modeled closely to that of west coasts 2011 structure,a few posters have mentioned this previously.

Pav > JK
Mayne = nicoski
Anthony > lynch
Ballas < le cras
Clarke = darling
Fyfe > cox/ NN

This forward structure will pretty much guarantee us an average 100 + points per game.:D

I didnt mean to say its easy exactly, just that its shouldnt be impossible to learn. But how many teams have 2 gun forwards? Pavlich is a gun forward, if we didnt have him there I would be alot more worried. Luckily they have NAB cup to assess it. And if he has an average year at CHF and next year they decide to play him in the ruck, he will still be a better ruckman because you would think after a year forward he would be a better contested mark and more of a threat resting forward.

As long as the coaches have the balls to recognise if its not working and make a change, I cant see a problem with it. Its a risk but without a big down side imo.

fair enough, as i said i can understand why they are trying it

I am looking at the training reports and have decided that I have more confidence in Lyons ability to predict Clarke's skills as a potential forward over yours. I am thinking he is giving us our best ever pre-season to date, and using players extremely well.

And I have no idea whether he sees Clarke as a CHF full-time, or part-time, or in another forward capacity. Regardless, if he kicks 20 goals as part of a three pronged tall forward attack I would take it over Mayne being the number 1 go to forward for most games he played and kicking 26. Especially given it would be Clarke's first season as a forward, compared to Mayne being a specialist forward.

fair enough, like i said its a personal opinion, and i hope im wrong, I guess the reason ive been so strong on this subject is because people on here have regularly said "oh we'll just put clarke up forward"" or " we can just rest sandi up forward"..... I think people are overstating their ability, adn understating our needs for the forwardline

By the way KPR I just read an article lauding the Pies 4 pronged tall forward line. In it they include in the praise that all of them kicked more than 20 goals.

I am just saying 20 goals is a more realistic pass mark for him than 50.

Does anyone have the stats on player heights for 2012?
Surely a few of the boys have grown since been drafted.
Fyfe must be one example, we have alot of players in the 186-189cm range.
Pav has been handy as a forward, and only just over 190cm.
Most have the frames to add some muscle as well, wouldnt surprise to see one of our kids become a power forward.

We axed our Rookies that were this size an fit this height description. Not only that, we recruited specifically outside this range over the last few years in relation to forwards.

I would be very interested to hear about the young players in the over 190cm range that you are talking about. Please tell me who they are?

P.S. Morabito does not count as a power forward!

Players definitely training as forwards
Pav
Anthony
Kep
Clarke
Mayne
DeBoer
Crozier
Menagola
Mellington
Schloithe
Where is Viv Michie training? I thought he was looking for a forward line birth this season? I'm by no means disputing you, more so curious about a prospect.

Looking at the forward line, it is a little disappointing. However, there is a chance of Fyfe playing on the half forward line. That'll obviously add some strength to that area.

The club doesn't have direct control of these stats and is out of there hands when updated on the website. All other clubs are in the same position and it's up to someone that controls that data at AFL HQ to get this updated.
Should happen soon I guess.
Fyfe should be around 191cm
Pitt should be just under 80kg
and also Hill would have put on a few Kegs too...

Sorry Seppo. Fyfe is listed at 186cm. While additional growth is of course possible. A 5cm spurt would be excellent for him but most unlikely for a player turning 21.

Nice dream though. Nice dream.:thumbsu:

If that is the case (and usually Seppo is bang on the money) please do not pay any attention to this.

http://www.fremantlefc.com.au/players/tabid/8909/category/senior/season/2011/default.aspx nor my beloved AFL Prospectus http://store.championdata.com/store/afl_prospectus_2012.html

Thank you for your input Wigarus. Now go play 'Highway Squash'. :D

Trust me on this one Mr DL. ;)

When the numbers are updated Fyfe will be either 190 or 191. Maybe more if they count his hair, he really needs a cut. :(

Yep.

In his media conference from 6/7/11 he said he was 190cm.

You can find the video on the Freo homepage, but I don't know how to link to individual videos.

Excellent news! Can we get him on a rack and stretch him out to be Pav and MJ height? We really do need his talent forward, I do not see him as a power forward though. More like the midfield/Half forward flanker from Hell!

Will need a very good tagged/defender to match up on him. Will be very much playing a James Hird type role I think.

Rule # 1. Never doubt the Seppo!

Menagolia 189cm, mellington 187cm, Mitchie 187cm, Pitt 189cm, Morabito 191cm.
Morabito with his knee injury, and our lack of talls may be our next Pavlich clone.
Throw Fyfe into the mix, and we have something to work with.
This mixture could prove difficult to defend against, and are all close to the same age, should come together nicely.

Fyfe is definitely not 186, have said hi to him before and I'm 189 and he feels a touch taller than me or on par, not shorter.

(but it could be the hair giving him an extra 10cm)

I'm calling fyfe 192cm.Last year when being interviewed by jako (194cm) fyfe was
only marginally smaller than jako.

those rookies got axed because they were rubbish. they should not have been kept just because they were tall, if that were the case we would still have dan parker on our list ;)

I Reckon morabito has a better chance of being a good key forward than being a good midfielder. At his height and weight we would be crazy not to try him as a CHF IMO

KPR I disagree with the players being rubbish. Houghton was not given much of a go at all and as you know Key Position players take time. he also had a bad run with injuries that kept him from showing his best. I suspect that there was another reason that he was axed after such a short period.

Sibo.... ahhhh Sibo. I know that he had the talent, I think that we all do. He certainly did not appear to give it 100%. For that I blame the club as much as he is to blame. They did not discipline players enough under previous administrations. I do believe that we would have had a different result with both players under our current coaching team. It is a pity that such talent will now most likely will be gone forever, just when we needed talented, young, tall forwards. :(

Morabito is going to need to fully recover (as well as believe in his knee) before he would be able to effective as a player. Let alone a Key Position Forward. I hope that he can, but I see him more on the wing and in the square.

Ahhh sorry when you said rookies i thought you meant rookie listed players of which houghton was not... I agree houghton should have been kept, although none of us know the circumstances of his delistment (is that a word?)

as for mora, I agree i think he definitely needs to get his knee right first. But when it is right, the guy is a like for like of pav, we have enough big bodied mids... put him forward and see if he can be a direct replacement... could you imagine how awesome it would be if we could have a 20 year old pav replacement????

Houghton I considered a rookie because he was so young and barely with us for any length of time. Would have loved him to have had the breaks that Hinkley got.

Delistment is now a word in my eyes KPR, you summed it right up quickly and we all understood ( which is the new criteria these days re the English Language ).

We NEED a 20 year old Pav replacement! That is why I have wanted (as well as many others) us to draft Key Forward prospects. Even if they are late we at least have a chance to work with them and see if there is potential.

Putting all of your eggs in the Super 2012 Draft when we dont even know what picks we have is Russian Roulette methodology. Most likely we are going to have a good season which will give us even later picks. I do not like our chances. What happens if a great midfielder has fallen through to our pick? Will the 'Best available' logic apply? If we go against that, why have we not done that in the previous 5 drafts? These tactics defy logic.

I am scared KPR! We need someone to replace the great man in the next few years, he (our new hero) needs to have talent, speed, great marking and kicking AND 10 years of great football in him to get us to a flag.

Otherwise our best ever players will not see a flag and we will have nobody to blame but ourselves.
