Kid Rock-All summer long

Why not? Both have taken sampling to a new level.

Actually, it's been done for far longer than that. But you hit the nail on the head when you said "pop". Pop and rock are different genres with different ethos and different expectations from listeners.

Monster sampling in rock is just not cool. If you're going to sample, do it from another genre or something unkown. Knicking 2 world reknown riffs and putting them together is crass. As is Kid Rock in general.

Couldn't have said it any better :thumbsu:

Kid Rock is a hack but people are stupid enough to listen too and enjoy this shit. If no-one liked it the song would not be played on commercial radio stations 5 times per day.

It is okay I guess. I like it because of the ripped off rifts but good on him for resurrecting these old songs somewhat. Each to their own I say, not that the music snobs will ever let that philosophy fly.

There is a definite skill to sampling, but the idea is to have something that sounds original, and this is definitely not an example. Check out Gotye or the Avalanches for an example of it being done well.

when it comes to sampling in rap/hip hop. NAS, eminem and Run DMC are the best.

but this song is awful. hey lets "sing" about smoking pot, underage drinking, statutory rape and being all round rednecks back in a time when mullets were cool. because people want to here about that

>.<

I like it.

But it's more because 95% of the popular music released today is just utter, utter shite. That this song samples two great songs - even though they're both blatantly stolen - puts it well ahead of most of the other crap released.

It's like putting Brent Harvey in a room with the seven dwarves and thinking "gee Boomer's quite a tall bloke isn't he"? Sure, on a timeline of every song ever released this probably wouldn't be in the top 70%, but given 95% of the chart music now released is in the bottom 10% of all time music released, it stands out to me as quite good.

Of course, the answer here is not to listen to commercial hit radio and I'm limiting myself to MMM which is quite good in Brisbane apart from all the Nickelback. But given the people I know it's impossible to not be exposed to the new rubbish so this song is kind of a blessing.

It hust seems the thought behind the song (if there was any) is stupid.

Like the german guys who buy the powerplant on the simpsons.

"I had a big company and he had a big company, now to gether we have a very big company"

"If i get one good song mix it with another good song and add some words, it has to be good"

Music Sampling is a part of music now. I understand if you don't like the song, it just means that you have ears. Previously you had to come up with 100% your own material and sampling and the such was really frowned upon. However now look at the whole dance genre. That is HUGELY popular and sampling is in the roots of the genre.

All that Kid Rock did was appeal to today’s youth. That he did very well. Personally I like the song. It's not brilliant but none the less a good song.

Too all you stuck in the 70's and 80's music die hards, which more then half of you here are, get a life as music has evolved and if not going back so stop complaining or just leave it alone.

Just fixed that for you champ

And btw worst song of the year hands down.

I hate it I want to roll over and die every time I hear it........It's an imediate channel change when it comes on!
I heard this shit samwich of a song on the way home from work today. Was about to change it over when I thought of this thread and thought I'd listen to how shit it really is. Not only did be boost 2 world reknown riffs, but they whole feel to his singing is very Bob Seger.

This red-knecked twat should get some originality.

or hopefully he can just die and we never have to hear his stuff again.

did i take it too far?

Haha, we should just keep this thread and replace the title with any upcoming releases from his album.

I was in JB Hifi the other day and this was in the Alternative section, I almost moved it myself :)

non of the other genres wanted anything to do with it, has to go hang out with the misfits. i'm surprised you didn't find it in the bargain bin

Alot of you guys are really showing your age here.. Music sampling happens all the time and it's not like he just covered a song, he wrote his own lyrics to it.. I love this song and I think you all need to understand that music has changed and this is the new generation, if you don't like it then maybe you shouldn't be listening to commercial radio

I'm 16 and I know it's utter trash.. go figure.

Sampling I can accept and bands can use it effectively, but taking two classic riffs and singing shit over the top makes them sound awful.

The thread starter must be thinking, "shit, never knew the majority think this seemingly popular song sucks balls".

epic fail.

You guys are all missing the point.
It has nothing to do with sampling or anything like that.

The song just sucks.
Thank you, Even if you take away the riffs he's used and judged the song merely on his creative merit and his strong lyrics. its cringeworthy

But heym, i dont really expect any more from Kid rock

I have hope for this world.

Hang on did this track make the charts?:thumbsd:

All the businessmen (with no music sense whatsoever)must have bought it.

aria charts are based on record shipments, not on records sold from stores, if i wanted i could print 20million cd's and send them to all the record stores in australia, i would be -acroding to aria- the highest selling album of all time, my single would be at the top of the charts, provided i sent out singles. and i don't have to worry about a single record getting sold because aria can't take away their certifications

That's not entirely correct. I could rap twinkle twinkle little star and print a 100,000 copies and offer them for shipment but it still doesnt mean you'll get them shipped and there fore counted on the ARIA chart.

You still have to convince the record stores that they want to accept such big shipments because they're going to sell. Then they count on the chart.

So in Australia it's all about marketing and convincing the Record stores they do want the maximum amount of copies and that they will turn them over quickly (not that you care if they do or not). Stores arent going to request large shipments of your CD if it's just going to be hundreds of inactive inventory sitting in the store.
