You can download the beta if from the Indian PSN:
Just got the prompt to d/l it through much frustration with my capped net and nothing showing up in the PS+ section for about 15 minutes.:p

Will finish the download tonight in off-peak time. w00t.:thumbsu:

seeing as a 23MB download took me 100 minutes, a 1.3GB download would take me 4 days

scoot can i haz a gameshare when i'm uncapped?
Before I paused it the estimated time for download for me was 4490 minutes.:)

You guys are all noobs.... I downloaded it in under 45 mins.
TPG for the win!

Anyway, I've played it for a bit now.

First of all, the beta seems VERY raw.

There is no music in the menus, there is a single game mode and map (for multiplayer that is, there's a couple of extra ones which are offfline only, as in with bots). While playing the game you have the words "ALPHA CODE" written at the top and there is no real sort of a progression indicator in relation to your rank. Also there are a couple of incorrect animations in relation to replenishing your ammo and assasinations.

Amzaingly though there is clan support at this early time which tells me clans are something that will be a robust feature in the game.

To the actual game, the controls definitely have gone back to your closer FPS but they are not as tight. You've still got a tad bit of 'floatiness' remaining. The controls of K2 had many in uproar not becasue they were bad but because they were different. Admittedly I recently tried some Killzone 2 after not having played it for a solid 8-10 months (in which I was playing MW2) and immediately I hated the controls but at the time which it (the game) was released I was quite happy with them. Still no shooting while jumping but I imagine that is a design choice rather than an oversight or fault. Reticles have improved immensely, no longer will you have an uneven green overtone destroying all the detail in what little of your scope you can see. The scope takes up more of the screen while aiming and also maintains the games detail.

Graphics are what you would expect after K2, quite nice. Especially the snow and wave effects in Frozen Dam. Larger colour pallete is used but still predominantly your murky urban browns and grays are utilised.

Assasinations are super cool, I've tried playing with some bots on easy difficulty just to see how many different assassination animations I could get. I got about 4-5 (I think) but I'm pretty sure there will be more. If you were in any doubt whether this game was suitable for your 13 year old son, the assassinations put the matter to bed. Eye gouges, knives to the neck and chest and broken necks are the order of the day with a dessert of copious amounts of blood streaming out of wounds to follow.

Something that surprised me was the Giant usable Mechs that were in the maps for multiplayer, (they were in the bot only maps though so I was unable to test them online versus other people). After a little bit of research it seems vehicles will be included in the multiplayer. Sounds good to me. :thumbsu:

Gamemodes offered are Warzone (the rolling objective based mode from K2) and also Team Deathmatch (it's called something else though). There will be a couple of extra ones compared to K2 though.

Overall while I am impressed, I'm not blown away. While superb details have gone into some things, other things look quite 'meh' (some of the walls and steel beams come to mind). As stated though it is VERY raw, am expecting quite a bit of improvements from it come release time.

Definitely on the right track though. Now for Sony to announce the Helghast edition for PAL territories so I can pre-order.

Downloaded the beta and installed late last night (this morning).

Had a quick go afterwards at the botmode as I really couldn't be arsed to go online.

Only had a couple of matches but I could see vast improvements across the board.

First off are the guns, really all I used in Killzone 2 was the shotgun as I truly felt almost everything was just too underpowered for doing any damage up close (which was the majority of battles) and even longer range but instantly upon choosing and shooting with the SMG all felt a lot more right in the Killzone world. That the shotgun was the only real gun that would work in Killzone 2 was probably what saw me move on from it quicker than I wanted to.

The SMG took the opponent down fast and the gun was nice and accurate too, even aiming down the iron sights, which I generally despise.

Really glad they give you an XP signal when you kill someone as with KZ2 it was often a bit hard to know whether you had taken someone down due to the elaborate death animations.

The weight is still most definitely there but the movement is a lot smoother, quicker and offers that COD like pace, for the most part.

The control layout has the same standard one from Killzone 2 with confusing button placements around the board. Changing it up to alternate offers a near exact COD layout with a few slight changes.

I was very surprised at how amazing the map I played on looked, while they don't seem to have gone for a ton of actual visual upgrade instead more over they have gone for a ton of visual additions with every single piece of particle effect and other goings on in the environment to create a fantastic atmosphere and a sense that bigger things are happening while you battle in this smaller arena.

I played on the Corinth Highway that along with being a very solid map that was easy to get used to and flowed really well, looked amazing. Had a river running up one side and the water is mindblowingly good. On top of that over the other side of the river you can see this incredible building looking structure that is being shot at and shooting at whatever the **** is going on, on the other side of that river. There's also various aircraft that go wizzing by while shooting along that side too. The particle effects of ash that constantly float across the screen look great too and add to that atmosphere. The lighting is great once again, providing a more realistic effect that's less on the bloom.

I ended up going about 50 and 16 on that map against the 2nd tier difficulty bots, had a 12 killstreak during the Bodycount (TDM) round.

The snow map I wasn't really digging the layout of a whole lot, it's a lot bigger than Corinth Highway and has a lot of layers to it, making it a bit complicated. It's not terrible, but it's not great like Corinth Highway was.

Another thing I was really surprised with was the sound, it's VERY advanced for a beta product. Can't wait to get playing this with a pair of Gaming Headsets that I plan to get in the next 2 weeks. It's up there with BC2 in terms of sound quality. The way sound reverberates throughout the structures and the ambient noises throughout the levels, it'll create an incredibly immersive experience that's for sure.

Warzone is just as good as ever, I really don't know why other games haven't taken this template. Offers so many modes in one match, it goes for ages and is extremely tactical. Makes each mode enjoyable as well and keeps everything fresh instead of monotonous TDM, TDM, TDM, TDM, etc. or DOM, DOM, DOM, DOM, etc. that you might find with COD or almost any other MP game for that matter.

Definitely impressed and looking forward once again to what should be a great experience.

This x100000.

Loved the multiple game types in one game thing. It ran so smoothly as well, with the next game type flowing directly from the one that just finished. Wish more games incorporated it.

Gamesharings a no-go for this. It's got that 24 hour lock-out dealy that was on GT5 Prologue (I tried it on my 60gb because my Slim wasn't working properly, I proceeded to get my Slim working afterwards but it said I had to wait).

Warzone was always the shizz. :thumbsu:

It's about time.
Vehicles are mechs and jetpacks btw. Not cars/trucks/tanks or anything like that.

Yeah, the flow cannot be underestimated it just all works so well everytime it moves onto the next gametype.

Had a go at the online MP today, noticed a brand new mode...it's one that is going to get A LOT of playtime out of me. It's basically a live co-op mode and it works really well.

This is the description of 'Operations' mode:
"The ISA and Helghast battle for control of specific objectives - the ISA on the offensive and the Helghast defending. The best players are featured throughout the match in cutscenes depicting their successes"

The last part is pretty sweet. It's only window dressing but to see the top scorers actually being recognised amongst the whole match by showing them in the cutscene (which come at the start of the match and completion of each objective too), it brings a nice sense of glee.:D

It's a relatively basic mode that works pretty much exactly like Rush from BF:BC2. You have a few objective points and have to capture them in a couple of ways, some may be zone specific and others are bombs that you have to arm. As you capture one set of objectives you move onto the next and the map opens up a bit more. You get 3 sets of objectives all up (as long as they're 'completed' of course).

The end cutscene when you win (or when the objectives are completed) is absolutely amazing. It's at the Frozen Dam map, so I'll let you draw conclusions from what might happen if explosions go off at a dam. But it looks stunning.

Also, just a word the guns and balancing. Everything seems FAR more balanced. I already touched on the guns in my previous post impressions, but being online there can be a bit more variety and you get the real AI as opposed to CPU AI so you can get an idea of how effective everything is. The guns are very well balanced, had enemies using SMG's, Assault Rifles and Shotguns as well one teammate using an LMG's. So pretty much each weapon was being used, offering great variety in the gun battles. The shotty's seem a bit less powerful than KZ2, it might not be the actual power of the weapon but the spread that has been dialed down a bit but I beat a guy up close with an SMG as he missed a couple of times with the Shotty.

The Assault Rifle was fairly powerful, haven't unlocked that myself so look forward to giving that a go.

Good news on the guns, all you used in KZ2 was a sniper rifle or shotty, even though that was fun it's good to have a bit more variety there.

Yeah that's it, just need to sign up for PS+. Not sure if that Indian Store glitch is still working though. I presume it would have been fixed up by now though.
Indian one was nixed about 4 hours after I put it on my 'to download' list.

So yeah, PS+ at the moment is the only way. Probably not worth the money JUST for the beta when it's coming in a few months.

I'm soooooooooooooo tempted.

Should be in the Plus section of the store?
Love the Helmet but not worth the exta $140.

$250 is huge.

Might just get the Collector's Edition, seems fair for $108.
Thats the one i'll be getting.
It's a better cover than the standard edition imo.

Looks like there’s going to be split-screen for Killzone 3, if a captured off-screen shot of recent preview code shows anything.

AND if anyone wants to watch, here is 10 mins of SP action.

Ahh, too tempting, not gonna watch.:D

Co-op should be awesome, have to wonder why the lack of news on it. Perhaps it's something that has only really been implemented properly lately and if it didn't turn out they would scrap it.

Still don't know about the leaked shot either, I don't quite get the higher and lower screen thing.

Split-Screen co-op confirmed (can safely assume that online co-op will be in then). This would appear to be full campaign co-op too btw.

We found a lot of power after we completed Killzone 2. Just to give you an example on the graphics side: we pulled a level from Killzone 2 into the Killzone 3 engine and it ran at 50 percent. That's how much power we've been able to find.

You can see it in split screen co-op. We had to do the double rendering anyway.
