Apparently Brett Kirk made contact with an umpire in the second quarter on Saturday, and has been charged.

The wire story suggests there is some possibility of a suspension.

I did not see the incident; can anyone explain what happened?

Jonathan Brown has been cleared of his report and will play Saturday night.

I didn't see the incident, but it would be a travesty if he was suspended because of it. Buchnanan ran flat out into the Ump last week and got nothing, Goodes was shoved into one and got fined. They need to clean up their act, and fast, and if Kirk is suspended, I'd damn hope we appeal.

i think the green maggots need to grow a pair, gotta expect some contact when there's 44 blokes running round after a ball

I'm one of those guys who likes to see records continue, and he's played something like 160 consecutive games. Same with Goodes' streak ending last year, I was spewing with that.

i think its fair to say that goodes deserved a week off for at least one of his reports last year, whereas i dont think kirk deserves a week off for what happened last weekend.

Kirk can vs the world and kirk will dominate because brett kirk is goddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddddd!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Oh agreed, I don't deny Goodes deserved one, just more annoyed at the broken streak. Kirk on the other hand hasn't been reported in how long? Doesn't deserve it.

Same as Goodes. Was shoved/held in the umpire's path by Mitchell. Disgrace, but has been sent straight so will get weeks. Thing is, the rule talks about pushing players into umps so why did Goodes and Kirk cop it?

tommorow went straight to the tribunal. as for the umpire who dobbed him in, he should have his testicles squashed in a vice grip sniviling little maggot

I think umpires should be treated like players in report incidences like this. Kirk accidently bumped him and he went down quicker than a $2 hooker.

They showed the incident on One Week at a Time. Mitchell's contact was worse than Kirk's. Seriously, if Kirk gets suspended for that, it will be a joke (I have said that before).

Amazingly, the Match Review Panel will recommend 125 demerit points for the charge, but either fighting the "reckless" part of the charge or pleading guilty and accepting a reduction in points means Kirk will get a fine and no suspension.

From what I'm reading here, this still seems a remarkably harsh penalty. But at least he'll play this week.

James Hird just said 'On the couch' that Mitchell is as much to blame, he was using the umpire as a blocking tactic (fair enough too) and also made contact himself, and Kirk shouldnt even get a fine!

That's all besides the point, they've made it clear that the area behind the umpire after they bounce it is sacrosanct and that's why he's in serious doo-doo. Wouldn't surprise me if he is gone for 1.

I thought because it's been referred straight to the tribunal he can't get a reduction from an early plea?
