i think he is making a point that the current players are to sensitive and in touch with their feelings. While the ones holding the cup look like a marauding band of Vikings that would slaughter you and your whole family to win a game of football then all drink straight from a barrel and laughing about it.

Mate I didn't say any of that, someone's putting words in my mouth!

Jokes aside...

You can't compare a pic of a team just after winning a flag with a couple of players in their spare time. Find some apples to compare with apples and we're getting somewhere.

You obviously were not around when Port were a successful football club?
I was born in 1993 and only started following AFL in 2001, so the only premiership I've witnessed was in 2004. I'm also of the opinion that Port Adelaide IS a successful football club. You can't deny or erase our history. We're in the AFL. We're on the national stage aren't we? I'd rather be fifth on the ladder in 2017, with Toumpas on our list, having just lost a showdown by a record margin, then be stuck in the SANFL beating up on norwood and co

Close enough. Especially Leysey.

Ok...

So it's based on looks?

Do you think Dermott Brereton wasn't tough cause he had a poodle mullet? Dusty Martin cause he gells his hair?

Gimme a break...

Based more marauding attitude I think..the guys with the cup seemed heavier and stronger too..more manly even:)

Yep, that they did and I don't disagree. Every fella was. That was the society back then. The world changes and things move forward. Those guys probably more likely to use homophobic or racist slurs and everything else too.

What's the solution? Recruit a bunch of people from Broken Hill?

I can get on board with that...

You make a fair point but as Tim Ginever once said "we exist to win premierships, dont let anyone tell you otherwise" or something like that anyway

One thing Kane mentioned was that Eddie was allowed to be untouchable. I'm not saying that we should have made a point of testing his stitches but it seems as if he was given special dispensation by our players because of his recent operation. This is unacceptable, if a player steps onto the field he is deemed to be 100%. A tackle that causes a concussion may lead to a suspension but we weren't looking at that, if he ended up with damage to his body due to playing when he shouldn't have that's his look out.

Nah, we absolutely should've made a point about testing it out. Port Adelaide is fast becoming the team you want to return players against. We take it very easy and give them a free hit rather than making sure they're ready for AFL footy again through hard physical challenge.

I don't want to be nice or liked. I already like Port Adelaide. I want to be hard.

As I said in the pregame thread, the only time we shouldn't have been bashing Betts was if he was being seen to or seeking a trainer.

We are far to nice. I know Ken would not accept it but I don't mind our players getting suspended for a few matches if they impacted important games at important moments. I'd rather everyone hated us as the toughest, dirtiest, will do anything to win club.

You got it in one Mr Ploppy. Kane was also using the guernsey to illustrate a bigger issue. If the only thing that came out of last Sunday's debacle was whether or not players should wear long or sleeveless guernseys we would be laughing but sadly it is not.

Looks like I made a big mistake raising the long sleeve guernsey issue. There are those who will labour on the non issue of guernseys and ignore the real problem.

I have to apologise to those supporters who appreciate the real issues that came out of last Sunday.

Pick a photo of an entire team post grand final win.

Pick a picture of a select few players in their own time - many of which are known for their different personal presentation choices.

Make generalisation.

There's no denying, though, that our current bunch of players are seething with pretentious wannabe hipster vibes, and it's no surprise that they fall into a flakey heap when the heat goes up in a match. I cringe everytime I see Jasper Pittard swanning around our SANFL game in a faux-denim jacket and custom librarian glasses, and I fully expect Justin Westhoff to go into the cold-drip organic beard oil business when he retires from football. I wouldn't expect half of them to know how to change a tyre, unless it was ironically on their fixie bike.

In isolation the long sleeves are no big deal, but it's absolutely symbolic of what a soft bunch of snowflakes these players are, and have been allowed to become by a soft, flaccid coach who doesn't have the ruthless, hard edge required to be a winner. Someone wrote in the review thread that the Crows treat our players with absolute contempt, and it's true - just watching the game it was so obvious they had no respect for us. And to be honest, after watching our comparative performances, I can't say I do either.

Drilling even deeper, their club administration has no respect for our club at all. They have never said a positive word about anything we do. They treat us with utter disdain. They drive the knife in at every opportunity.
It all filters down.
We can't just blame the players if our administration rolls over, accepts the crap, shows no fight.

Tex said yesterday on the radio as soon as we saw 5 of them wearing long sleeves we knew we had them physically

They should all build a house together this off season for great learnings of manly man work and team symbolisms.

Williams definitely did allow long sleeve jumpers, I remember many of our better, tougher players donning them like Gav, Tredrea, Primus.

Tredrea wore long sleeves in the '03 semi final against Essendon and was just about BOG. It's a bullshit excuse.
