Its hard to believe this 204cm monster of a Key position has only played 22 games. Was very solid early 2012 and again very solid the back end of 2013. Huge fan of the big fella and improves everygame. I noticed he barely leaked any goals, and despite looking unfashionable he is a very good user of the football and offers good rebound and averages 5 marks a game.
Im trying to find out who Keeffys direct opponents and how many direct goals were kicked on him in his 8 games.
Some of his highlights on his resume
- Made buddy his bitch round 21, only had 1 direct goal kicked on him
- When Nathan couldn't handle Tippet round 14, Keeffe went on him and Tippet was in an odd situation having a defender taller than him playing on him, tippets arms weren't long enough and Keeffy was winning every 1 on 1, Lachie had 1 goal kicked on him against Tippet.
-Again when Nathan couldn't handle an Opposition Keeffe came in cleaned up the situation, Cameron kicked 7 that game, 2 in the second half against keeffe.

These are goals that Keeffe had kicked on him that im sure that happened. Ill upload the Lineups from keeffes games, pretty sure he lined up against Westhoff and kept him to 1 goal till keeffe changed to that fwd/ruck role.

Post your thoughts on the big K and let us know keeffes reverse Coleman stats.

As for who he played on, fanfooty are usually pretty good.

I still believe he also has the ability to play forward, as long as he's actually given time up there and not thrown there out of the blue like he was in the elimination final.

I can see games this year where Reid may be the better option at CHB and Keeffe may be asked to play as that third forward alongside Cloke and Jesse.

He's a large part of our future for sure though.

Disagree on this, there have been a few times when he has dropped marks he should've taken. But it was encouraging nonetheless, because they were often after he had beaten his man in the contest.

I really think that Keeffe/Brown will blossom into a great KPD combo and I look forward to seeing someone like Oxley start to compliment them as the third tall from 2014/2015 onwards. I used to think that a Reid/Brown/Keeffe combination was where it's at, but Keeffe is doing such a stellar job that I prefer Reid forward.

Brown I think will improve too, with the leadership void in the backline with Shaw gone and Maxwell on his last legs, Brown will step up and continue to develop a more rounded game. People always remember Tippett and Cameron, but few people make note of the fact he demolished the likes of Kennedy and Roughead.

Probably the most under rated key position defender in the competition. He is so flexible for his height, would really like to see him as our main CHB next year. His forward abilities didn't impress me, his tall and struggled to take any pack marks when in forward, also provides low pressure in the forward line. It was 2012, when he was playing in defence which I see as the turning point for him. Only 23, has many years to go!

I've been slowly persuaded that Reid is better suited as a forward. I love Reid at CHB, but we can't lose with him as a 2nd tall. I'm starting to believe that Keeffe and Brown will be our KPB, and it's always good to know we've still got Reidy to send back if things starting looking a bit sketchy.

I think Lachlan Keeffe will be fantastic into the future, but gee, a lot of people sell Nathan Brown short on this forum. The beauty of the two is that Brown is far better against the serious contested marking forwards, and players like Roughead who aren't particularly quick but are great at ground level, and Keeffe is quickly becoming proficient at handling the more mobile and quick key forwards. Fantastic combination.

Oh defiantly, Brown is a rock. If he didnt have Cameron and Tippet kick bags on him he would of been in the AA squad. Brown will always take the number 1 key forward, like petrie and Schulz for example.
In the 2 grand finals he was one of our best and barely gave Riewoldt space to move which was amazing considering Riewoldt is a CHF and Brown is a Full Back.
Appearently Brown is losing weight over pre-season to keep up with those Jeremy camerons

Nah, that FF just some rating thing Fanfooty has developed for their own fantasy football game.

All that table can show you is who Keeffe probably played on (it's not always correct) if you hover over the grey icon in the news column.

If we bring Frost in for these occasions, it is likely that he and Brown will take defenders 1 and 2, and Keeffe will play on the second ruck (due mostly to height). Really looking forward to seeing how this all pans out, to be honest.

What can't be underestimated is the lack of playing time Brown and Keeffe have had playing together. People need to remember that the last 7-8 games of the season are the only ones where they've both played in the same back line. With more time together I reckon we'll see both Keeffey and Browny blossom into a quality KPD combo

Even when he looked a little lost in the VFL this was always a standout for me. He very much has the potential to be very Maxy like in his leadership. One thing everyone agrees on is Maxy is a great leader.

I believe if we really see potential in Frost, because of his fantastic leg-speed, we'd be better off developing him into a back-pocket/all-rounder type defender. Brown and Keeffe will take forwards 1 and 2, and Frost will take their third tall/second ruck option. If a Ruckman is particularly good forward, or is too tall for Frost, it's only then that we swap Keeffe onto them. Most of the time it's much more important to have their two permanent Key Forwards in the best hands, rather than using quality to cover someone who will probably be a very average forward.


Not all sides will roll with two rucks or a third tall necessarily, which is where making Frost have an adaptable game would come in handy. As he'd hopefully have the agility and speed to go with the smaller forwards too. It would be daft to bring him in and out every week, depending on whether or not the team has someone for him to play on, because we'll end up with an unsettled backline just like the last three years. The old 'horses for courses' is fantastic, but having a settled line-up is a higher priority.

I'm a fan of Frost as well but a defence consisting Keefe, Brown and Frost destroys our rebound - especially considering a combination of Toovey, Maxwell and Williams are also probably defending as well. Assuming Toovey's somewhere near his best he should be able to take most teams 3rd forward - he completely owns Darling who as far as 2nd/3rd forwards go is close to the best in the AFL.

We've got a ton of good nullifying defenders at the moment, the real issue is finding a few players who can defend and also give us a lot of rebound from half back. Hopefully guys like Scharenberg and Seedsman can do this in the next few years but until then I still like Reid playing in defence just so that we have at least one guy down there who is a first class intercept mark and 60+ metre kick.

Frost is never going to play as the first choice mid/3rd tall defender as long as Toovey is on the list and he's going to be even less likely now that we have Scharenberg.

His position is really only full back and that's going to involve displacing Brown or Keefe as best 22. Tbh I think Frost's potential as an AFL player is at about Brown's level. Frost might even be more valuable to us imo since with his footpace complements Keefe (who should be our no.1 defender) better. A really ruthless but effective play would have been to trade out Brown last season while he still had quite a bit of currency. With a good run of injuries this year we are going to see some pretty good quality defenders running around in the magoos.
