Leigh Brown

He kicked straight last week because basically all his shots were about 25 metres out directly in front. He never had one slightly challenging shot.

I hope he can teach all our forwards how to get into this position regularly then instead of almost always having shots from deep in the pockets.

Yeah, good point. To his credit nearly every ball he contested was in that hot spot so i suppose you could say he did help to straighten us up at times.

All I was saying is that I doubt he has suddenly become a super shot for goal because his shots were pretty easy and any afl footballer should kick those (even though we know they often don't!).

Creating that space is the key. Once we can consistently create the space it does not matter who we have running into it. All the great forward lines could and do do it.

I am watching the game again at the moment. I reckon were going to go far more directly this season.

But he missed them last year, he missed most of his shots

I think he may play a jarrad molloy-like role this year, providing a big body in the forward lines to contest any one-on-ones or bring the ball to ground for our crumbers.

In the AFL, goal-kicking accuracy is about 80% confidence. In practice, each player who has been in the system more than a couple of years should have a serviceable technique. Come game time however, confidence is what allows him to go back, follow his routine and kick the ball the way he's trained to.

If he showed anything last year, it's that he knows how to get the ball. If he can get his confidence up, I have no doubt he could become a very reliable contributor on the scoreboard.

Indeed......the bloke got a life line because he was a jack of all trades type.....but now due to team balance we need more specialist type roles.

Jolly is the ruck.......is his back up Josh or Wood

Presit is our KP back.......is it N.Brown or Reid that gets the other spot?

Forward, clearly Cloke is our best tall....Anthony has next spot on form....Dawes, Rusling, L.Brown, Fraser are other options.

L.Brown has been forgotten really, most people focus on the youngsters....but the pies are clearly in premiership mode.....so if Leeroy can keep up some good form, a 200+ game big bodied forward def has a place in our side

I don't care what he does in one NAB cup game, he was useless in the forward line last year and will be useless in the forward line this year. The number of easy shots he missed at goal was unbelievable, he kicked 10 goals 17 behinds and probably another 25 on the full. That's why North Melbourne got rid of him. He is only serviceable as a backman if the opposition have a very very slow forward. The least skilled player at the club since Jason Wild.

He's in our top 22. I just don't know at whose expense.

At the moment it is Nathan Brown and Ben Reid as they haven't earnt their spot.

But he has played all pre-season up forward, meaning Nathan Brown looks to slot in down back. But who does he displace up forward? Is Jack potentially out for the first few rounds?? Or is Josh Fraser's backup ruck spot up for grabs?

When Josh, Rus and Jack are all fit then it will be a problem for the selectors. Right now it doesn't matter at all as he is not keeping anyone out.

Considering neither Jack or Rusling have had any pre-season...I'd say Leigh would be favourite for Round 1 Full Forward.

Especially since Jack got smashed by Lake last year...and is likely to do so again. Lake has him on the lead and is stronger in the air. Atleast Leigh will match Lake body to body. We could put Davis and Didak and his feet and try and snag a few goals that way.

Zackly.

Even then I'm not sure all this talk is not still a few weeks early.

Round one......come on down.

Well he has had a whole preseason under bucks who is the forward coach and he looks to have fixed his kicking because last year he had a different drop and he lacked confidence so its been a great start for him this year. Full Forward round 1 is all his.

*points to the sig he's had since last year*

Because one of my best friend's is a North supporter, I instantly made Leigh Brown one of my favourite players just to spite him, even if it was all in jest. However the more the season went on last year, the less it was all in jest.

When he kicked that goal in the Adelaide game, it was probably one of the happiest moments of my life (beaten by the siren, of course), haha. That goal would surely have helped his confidence.

And heading into the St Kilda game last weekend, I actually said to my mate "If I get in there and Leigh Brown kicks our first goal of the year, I will get up and leave, because I'll be happy with our season." As I sat, it happened, and my friend told me I had to leave :P

If the Collingwood website had a way to order L Brown guernseys, I'd already have it. Unfortunately the 'name + number' option only says "Brown" and not which brown, so I'm guessing it's NOT L :P That said, the way you'll be able to spot me at all the games this year is once I get to the Lexus Centre, I WILL be the person at our games with Leigh Brown on his geurnsey.

tl;dr - I love Leigh Brown.

so did you leave?

Aye. Anyway your North supporter friend would be all too used to walking out early from matches. :p

Well we did come pick him up from the G at 3/4 time a few years ago when Geelong smashed his team by like 120 points in a final, lol.
