Okay, I appreciate his dad posts on here.
But I would like a serious honest discussion on the potential of this kid.

I have seen him only 4 times this year, but I have noticed the following
* Is lightly framed (will need 2 more solid pre-seasons)
* Is a thumping kick (60 meters is easy for him)
* Is a good tackler
* Is generally good under pressure but sometimes, while under that pressue, choses the wrong option (this is just a coaching thing).
* Has the pace of a Clement
* Is a good overhead mark
* Can take a contested mark
* Tends to kick wide (possibly under instruction)
* Sometimes gets out of postion when the ball is coming in fast (Experience will fix this)
* May need to gain a yard in pace when he plays 1's

What do others think?

Theres a lot to like about him, give him another pre-season to put on some size and you can pencil him in for round 1 2007.:thumbsu:

Ja, clement, presti, obrien and maxwell down back next year, is there room for jason cloke?

He has never dissapointed me when I've seen him play at Willy this year.....The kid can play good size, good skills, strong mark, pacey looks the goods........P.S Expect Rusling to play Friday night ;)

I really like the look of JA. You say he is light framed but he has the body type that will easily take on more kilos, so size is not a worry for me. Skills look good and he really backs himself in a contest which is also good. As you pointed out, decision making seems to be his weak point at the moment but I see him taking a regular spot next season and in the long term being a replacement for Clement.

Someone (Gotch or Malthouse) must have had a word in his ear, because he has tightened up his game since the beginning of the new football season. He is still undisciplined every now and then, but he has a bright future ahead of him.

I was impressed watching him yesterday. He's a very creative and attacking backman but I was a little dissappointed how he got beaten a few times in the one on ones.

But what I later realised was that in the VFL, he is taking the oppositions number 1 backman. If he comes into the seniors, this wouldn't be much of a problem as you'd have Clement, Presti, Maxwell taking the best 3 forwards. This would allow JA to play to his attacking game and play a bit loose. I'd love to see him get a run in the next few weeks.

Good player to look forward to. Devolopment is something that will be taken on board, and wouldn't expect him to play this season, even though his form and the lack of in the seniors, may get him a crack (won't happen).

Agree with much of what has been said. He seems to have the type of physical attributes that can be built on, and therefore each preseason would see him get better and better. I wouldn't mind seeing him come in this year anyway just for a bit of a taste against a Carlton, PA, or Kangas. As has been mentioned, he would take the third of fourth tall, so it would be a good little bit of experience for the lad. I have him pencilled in as holding down fullback after Presti steps aside, and from what I have seen he has all the attributes (with the possible exception of genuine heigh - at 191 may not be able to handle the new wave of KPP players 196-199 cm)

This may sound complicated but 191cm is enough to cope with even the tallest key forwards. A mark is rarely ever taken at full stretch perfectly vertical while leaping as high as you can. Most of the time a forward has to lean back and hunch over to get leverage over the backman who is positioned behind him and usually standing up straight. Then there are other variables such as the backmans leap and arm span as well as his ability to knock his oponent off his leap and position him off the flight of the ball,

If height was the only thing Sandilands would be deadly up forward but he is pretty average down there. Wakelin was 191cm and was never dwarfed by the likes of Ottens.
