45 players this week have been inundated with questions.
First Dad , then Mum then brothers and sisters and then extended family. It happened with friends, collegues class mates, acquaintances, neighbours, girl friends.
How many calls, emails, messages and conversations? Maybe 20, 30, 40. - who knows.
But this embarrassing drug revelation about the club and the uncomfortable and incessant questions for every player could not possibly impact the groups on - field performance, according to so many here.
I call rubbish -

This was a major factor on our performance yesterday,
Our club was rocked to its foundations last week, it was an earth quake, and it will take time to emerge from this devastation, hopefully stronger and more united.
I can't think of a leader with more integrity than Buckley to steer the group through this.

But just like Ess if this saga continues to play out in the media over an extended period it will be devastating for our on field performances.

I had a feeling the players minds would be somewhere else. I was very confident of this. Look at Williams game, some of SIdey's efforts. Swans players running free. There is no doubt the slur and breach of trust eminating from a 'rat' at AFL circles who leaked this affected our side greatly. Where is the 'rat', find it, and give it a life ban.

It won't play out though, everyone wants to know who the club is that is double Collingwood's, Tell us slobbo? We want to know the podium winners?

Or you could not do drugs and take yourself out of the equation. All decisions come with consequences. This is the consequence of undertaking the activity as an AFL footballer. You leave yourself exposed to controversy.

How about you try and bring your more optimistic perspective into one of the half dozen post-game threads already running, instead of starting another one?

I think it's pessimistic, if the premise were true how mentally weak is our playing group?

Imagine if they were faced with something more challenging? If this is true we are doomed

Unfortunately 34 players did exactly that (didn't take drugs, or at least weren't caught) and are still faced with the questions from family, friends and colleagues because of the anonymity of the 11 who tested positive (assuming that report is correct).

I do agree with Bucks that its unfair that Collingwood was singled out and named when the article mentioned that two clubs were worse and a number of other clubs were on par with Collingwood but Collingwood was the only named club, so all the controversy and questions is around Collingwood and no one else. Channel 7 was even reporting it as a "drug crisis at Collingwood", and mentioned the statistics concerning other clubs as an afterthought.

Pessimistic, optimistic, opportunistic, communistic, I really don't care. Just think that another thread picking over the carcass of last night's game is ridiculous.

Really was a shocking way to begin our 2016 campaign, there's no denying that.
But it is game one of a very long season, if after round 4 we are 0-4 then the alarm bells will be ringing. Last nights performance is a one off, with a number of contributing factors, their preseason has been great and the nab performances strong. there is a lot of water to go under the bridge before its panic stations.

Probably, I was just using your comment to further mock OP wanting to hide the players behind the apron.

Is Tim Watson on SEN these days? Might want to question what he defines as a drug scandal. I have no sympathy for him after him breaking that news. He needs t cop some questions. His son is a convicted drug cheat, - a pariah on the game, if he believes this is a 'drug scandal'.

As opposed to pulling them out from behind the apron, lining them up against the wall and shooting them. Either approach seems futile.

How many Norf like performances can the Pies put in though, really? Wake up calls, or learning from big losses is a myth as far as I'm concerned.

Learnt nothing from the Essendon, Richmond or Melbourne losses, I suspect that there wasn't much to learn from this apart from what happens to the scoreboard if you can't defend in the midfield.

Excuses are the reason why other clubs have no success. You can't not be up and about for round 1 and look disinterest as they did. It cannot be tolerated and if it is, the team will be in for a mediocre run exactly like North Melbourne.

Just as Essendon had a shit coach who tried to use their drugs saga as an excuse for his shit coaching, we have a shit coach who is trying to use this manufactured controversy to to distract from his shit coaching.

Dust has settled...a few interesting things to ponder.

It was a stinker, but come out and beat Richmond, who didnt look that great either, and we sit 1-1 after playing two finals aspirants, that is fine.

Instead of a run of honorable losses that killed us last year, almost prefer a reality check like this...hopefully it lights a fire under the playing list.

Removal of the sub, the sub was introduced specifically to stop what happened to us last night...losing a player in the first quarter, stats show you lose a player in first quarter and it becomes 22 v 21 you stand no chance. The sub rule was in place to help protect equity in case of injury.

We need a big bloke with some mongrel - our only blokes with Mongrel and fight in them are Marley and Adams, both are too small to intimidate...Sydney had what 3 debutants who did as they pleased.

I love bucks. I saw him in the middle of his career away from the club. he was a genuinely good bloke.

I like the way he represents the club now. Articulate, thoughtful and caring for the players.

All that doesn't mean he's a good coach.

I genuinely hope he is but I have some grave doubts now.

Are you certain all 11 players were on the field last night?

Like an earthquake? lol talk about an overreaction

This board is going to run out of excuses soon, i'm looking forward to seeing how creative some people can get.

I blame it on Aurora Borealis

I don't know what's worse - for you to actually believe last night will be par for the course in 2016, or believe the drug revelations had no impact on the team.
