The players really lifted in the last quarter and played a much more competitive quarter with a hell of a lot cleaner disposal.

But how about the moves Ratts made. This guy is a fantastic coach. Kreuze was struggling around the ground, Ratts put him down forward and we reaped the benefits. Seemed to restructure the midfield and kept Judd on all quarter. Backline stood up well, which i believe, was kept un-changed. He made some influential moves in the 3/4 time break but, for some reason, i can't remember most of them now so im just dribbling on lol

none-the-less a great performance from the players AND ratts as well... god i love him!

yeh was amazing in the last quarter and 3 quarter time.

BUT, there is a reason why we were down by so much at 3 quarter time, and i think a lot of it happened up in the box.

well done to ratts tho, realised his mistakes and in the end, came up trumps. :thumbsu:

its having a coach the players will do anything for - unlike pagan who they hated, ratts is a true blue legend & has the respect of his players.

He was easily outcoached in the first half by Chocco with his open foward line and our pakced backline. We couldnt get the ball into the foward line with any conviction and they scored on nearly every inside 50.

But to change tactics after 1/2 time was a master stroke. Changing Kruzer from backline to forward line in the last was the game winning move. (Play kruez forward if not in the ruck. He isnt a backman. Otherwise play edwards, so we have another marking option.)

Definatly deserves some praise, I feel if Pagan was still coach the boys would have just dropped their heads in the last.

said the same thing in my other thread. shows just how we've turned a corner. there is absolutely no doubt that if pagan was in charge still we wouldn't have even came close to winning. in fact, im adamant that the deficit would have increased in the last quarter. thank god we got rid of him!

I thought Kreuzers composure infront of goal was amazing, a first year player... the 50m kick was special but to slot a 45m kick to put us within a point was just amazing - an effort as good as Minson's against Richmond to draw a few weeks ago.

Rising star nomination i'd say.

edit: Definitely respect Ratten. loved him as a player, now am beginning to love him as a coach. He is a very smart man and proved to many when he did an interview on Footy Classified after the Collingwood match.

If there are any doubters still around as to whether Ratts is the right man for the job, I suggest there would be none tonight.

The players were great in the last quarter, but Ratts and his coaching was sensational, and I can't speak higher of him.

Gibbs on Cornes was a brilliant move. I had my doubts when I first saw Gibbs going to Chad, but ____, he was awesome. Well done to Ratts who gave Gibbs the freedom to go with Chad wherever he went.

Kreuzer up forward was another masterstroke that paid off in the end and won us the game. 3 goals in the 4th are invaluable and he'll grow from that performance.

Well done to Ratts for giving the kids a go. He bleeds Navy Blue and can see that for us to go forward, we need the kids to lead the way. Armfield and Browne get plenty of game time, which wouldn't have happened a few years ago.

Well done Ratts, we're totally behind you.

I think he is an awesome coach and does deserve same praise. i was listening to the game on SEN and darren jarman was hanging in on carton the whole game and sad ratts had no clue. well ratts stuck it right up him
Go the blue boys an exceptional efort:)

at the game so not sure if this is right but i thought he moved grigg onto burgoyne. Stopped their run a bit.

Shouldnt be immune from critisism- made some horrible moves in the first half- too tall in the forward line and too much possession footy- obviously not used to coaching wet weather footy.

But full credit to the bloke, he knew what he was doing wrong, made some adjustments and we won. And thats all that matters.

Nice work Ratts.

Didn't quite understand the logic of putting Kreuzer onto Westhoff in defence and taking Waite off in the early stages of the third though. Westhoff started to get on his horse and it looked like they were going to get away.

In the end though he got it right and got us home. He's learning as he goes. Well done Rats.

Ratt's is fantastic and I was so glad when he was named our coach. He has certainly delivered in his goal of bringing spirit back to the club. Whilst being mild earlier in the season with all of the surrounding controversy he can certainly be praised with his determination and confidence with our young list.

FUEGO!!!!!!!!!!!

Yeah Jars was annoying the hell out of me too!! Shouldnt have even been commentating on the game, was obvious he wasn't on Carlton's side that's for sure.Laughing like a school girl at mistakes Carlton made during the game :thumbsd: He needs to mature somewhat if he's going to be commenting on radio. Grow up Jars!!

I am reserving my praise for Ratts. There have been plenty of us calling for Kreuser forward for about 8 weeks and also on the game day thread - I had a big man in square before 1/4 time. Ratts almost got him there by default after giving Westhoff his best patch in the game by putting Kreuse on him in 3rd.

Edit: I am only reserving my praise for his tactical prowess at this stage - don't get me wrong, I want him!

First of all well done Ratten, think you are fantastic and so glad your back at our club. But I also do wonder why Kruezer hasn't been used forward more?....especially when we've had the 3 big men in...I thought that was the whole point about having the 3 of them in. Kreuzer has obviously shown in the under 18s that he can play forward well.

Yeah, Ratts did good - eventually. For three-quarters our forward line was, as the commentators went to lengths to tell us, one-dimensional and there was just nothing to show that our focus was anything other than defensive.

But good on him for rolling the dice in the last quarter, it paid off. But it still seems were are a long way from having our team set in any positions. that could be a good thing - it shows we still have options.

The incident which I thought would take the game away from us, may have turned it in our favour even more.

We had all of the momentum, and despite Port getting a shot at goal from the stop in play, we had the chance to rest Judd for 3-4 minutes while the stretcher was on, then Robbie Gray had to wait and eternity to take his kick, ending up missing it, Russell was fired up in the last quarter, and then we were able to keep Judd on for the rest of the quarter, despite him being absolutely stuffed with about 90 seconds to go.

So, in conclusion, the stretcher coming on allowed to rest Judd which perhaps won us the game.

Ratten was completely out coached for nearly three quarters - Finally changed the forward line and we got out of jail.
Be realisitic. We have a L plate coach who is learning on the job and this has cost us some games. He is getting there and will be a good coach for us and will grow with the players and I'm happy with but come on - His in experience nearly cost us tonight. He hopefully won't be learning by his mistakes on the job in another 12 months time and we win the same game by 5 goals.
