Lets send a message to CH10

NSW and QLD big footy members, is it too late to send a message to Channel 10 about them not showing the footy at a reasonable hour for the opening round.

The game is being touted as a sell out in Melb but Channel 10 thinks the swimming more important here (not so in the footy states though) so we have to wait until that is finished at 11.30pm on either their new 24hour sports channel 1 (12 on std def sets) or on their regular free to air Ch10 where they have Law and Order and Life on Mars. Probably repeats.

Is swimming really that popular? Where is the bigswimming blogoshpere?

The most hyped opening round in a decade and this is the way they promote the game north of the border. I think it is a disgrace.

The reason it won't be live on One HD is all about the anti-syphoning laws i believe. THe game would have to on their main channel and analogue and Ch.10 obviously don't think it will rate highly enough in NSW & QLD.

So in the meantime it's swimming you get!

Sadly there isnt even a pub I could go to to watch it. Sadder still I don't have any friends up here, let along friends that have either a) foxtel or b) an appreciation for the finer things in life...AFL.

Media blackout unfortunately so I cant even banter with Big Footy friends for fear of seeing the result.

Whilst I should be grateful for small mercies, (that is I can watch us win again!!) I cant wait 24 hours to see the game. I will stay up and watch it. I will have to stiffle my shouts at the umpire as it will be after midnight here but it could be worse. I could have camel racing. Sorry Cranium.

Some of you are making jokes, but it really is ridiculous and unfair for us in the northern states. Not everybody can afford Foxtel. The problem isn't Foxtel rights or anything, its apparantly some stupid law saying that unless they show the footy at the same time on 10, OneHD can't show the match earlier. Same applies for 7HD. So instead of utilising their HD channels and showing 2 different things, both channels are showing the same thing and we are missing out.

If it's a law, obviously it's not the TV channels faults, but I would love to know whether anything is being done to change it as it really is quite ridiculous. What's the point of having 2 channels if their showing the same thing?

The problem lies squarely at the feet of John Howard. He should not have let the existing channels get the three new channel licences when digital came on line. Competition is what we need, not a cosy little cartel arrangement like the one we suffer under now.

THE BEST we could do was a 7:30pm start with a free to air of 8pm start.
Will most probably still be there but most will opt for sitting on their own couch or listening to the radio/internet.

I was thinking of heading down to the Odin with my brother (blues supporter) and my mother (Tigers supporter) but didn't think there was a function happening/on, so didnt know if they would be showing it at all (plus its an hour drive each way for my bro and mother).

If there is a decent expected turn out at the Odin, ill get them to come on down, otherwise I'll head to the folks and watch it in HD

Either way, I shall be there for the first offical function for rnd 2
