Congrats and good luck to him. It's disappointing that we could not get him onto our list but that is the AFL system for you.....

All the best to him though - hope he plays some good footy for the Dees except for Queen's Birthday obviously!

I saw him play in the VFL a few times last year and he has enormous natural talent but he has a long way to go to be an AFL footballer.

If he can adjust to Melbourne and become professional about the sport he could be very good. There are a lot of ifs and buts though.

Cant really be the one that got away considering we didn't have a pick, and he wasn't registered in the ND. It is also pretty hard to hide a guy who kicks 6 and tears apart his local league games

Really happy for the bloke though, hope he settles in well at Demonland and has a real crack at AFL.

Can somebody tell me what type of player this guy is, i mean the AFL website says he's a small forward, then another news article says he's a ruckman/CHF. Will he ever be able to hold down a KP spot

Not really. There was a rumour recently going around that the Dees had kept an eye on him.
I meant him nominating, he walked out on us (albeit for good reasons) mid year.

But still good luck Liam

he is 190cm-193cm so medium forward, not a ruckman or chf.

Played as a third tall for us in the seconds

Didnt really have a set position though. He was very similar to Shannon Cox in that way, could play wing if you wanted him to, has a lot of talent, but is very very raw, i wouldnt think he would even be considered to play AFL next year.

He might be able to play as a ruckman/CHF in his home leagues, but at AFL level he'd be a medium forward/winger. He's 188cm. He might be able to play out of the goalsquare as an undersized FF, but IMO a flank, a pocket, or a wing is his go.

Good luck Liam!

just some opinions, can we take credit for exposing him? or would he have been picked up anyways on his form in the NT??

would've loved him in a pies jumper. looks the goods.
however, this may be something we need to get used to with Bushrangers/Pies VFL alignment. May see some absolute guns turn out to play in Pies jumper, and we have played a part in their development, but unable to get them in the end.
... would be a great story if jurrah turned out to be a 'gooden'.

It will be interesting to watch his career, he's had to come a long way and he has a longer way to go still.

Actually the backstory to this whole saga will be good indication of some of the Collingwood football departments abilities as coaches and talent spotting.
You are right on the money. It is a very interesting story about certain individuals on the Collingwood coaching panel who totally not only ignored this kid but only criticied him for lacking defensice skills when he should have been getting specialised training. He was certainly good enough for not only Melbourne to ultimately draft him but for both North asnd Hawthorn to be prepared to fly him down from the NT so as to have the inside running on getting this very talented kid. But once again we missed out! Same old same old.

But then again we got Leigh Brown! What a gun!

I don't know of Jurrah, he is meant to be a freak but he is obviously in a difficult culture transition.
It has been reported on another board that Rupert Betheras had to convince the club to persist in him as he left the club mid season. Apparently the club didn't want a bar of it.

Either way, it's a tricky situation.

Good on him, he is an exciting prospect. Just dissapointed that he didn't end up on our list. All the best to him though, hopefully he can settle in and play some good football.
