Hey guys i was just wondering if anyone had the latest on this guy? I really liked his game in the VFL and remember hearing he went back to NT for family reasons? Just wanted to know if anyone has heard anything on him and are we potentially looking at picking him up as a rookie selection?

Sssssh! Liam Jurrah? I think he was abducted by aliens.

Seriously, there are conflicting reports, but apparently he returned home due to a family illness. Us plebs aren't sure if he's likely to return to Victoria to continue his football.

Either struggled to adjust to the big smoke or we've brilliantly stashed him away till draft day.

From all reports he showed signs but the former is more likely than the latter.

Young aboriginal player, who I think Rupert Betheras alerted the club to. He was on our VFL list and played a handful of games for the VFL side. Showed quite a lot of talent. He's 6'2" and athletic and played as a forward, though I also saw him play well as an onballer in a VFL practice match.

Very very close, ongoing and serious family illness saw him return home to Central Australia. Is still playing in the AFL Central Australian in Alice Springs and dominating. His side Yuendumu has gone from 1-4 to 9-4 since his return...

Several clubs had indicated he was a certain draft selection however these non-football factors will determine whether he nominates for the draft or not.

Full Blood indigenous footballer brought down to the club by Rupert Betheras.

Showed some good signs at VFL Collingwood early in the year if somewhat inconsistant.

Reportedly returned home due to serious illness of his cousin.

Don't know anything more than that.

A better or more revealing description than 'full blood' is that he is from a remote desert community. Very very few players have made it from remote communities (only a few like Dhurrkay from the Top End and some Tiwi lads.) No blokes have made it from Remote Central Australian desert communities. Nearly all the indigenous players have come from metropolitan capitals or at the biggest stretch regional centres such as Alice Springs etc. Or some blokes who have left communities early in their life on school scholarships etc. Liam has spent all his life growing up out bush in a remote community. Huge huge difference in remote communities where traditional culture and language etc still very evident.

Do you know Liam Personally?

Yeah l have known him for a few years now from the NT side of things. He is an even better young man than he is a footballer which is really saying something. Was hard for him in Melbourne being a remote community bloke (eg : with English as 3rd or 4th language) but Rupert and others from the coterie group 'Collingwood Industrial Magpies' (http://cimagpies.com.au) with whom he was staying and who organised his time down there did an absolutely wonderful job and should be congratulated regardless of the outcome. l hate to say it but Collingwood and all involved handled themselves with great professionalism, skill and sensitivity. None more so than Paul Licuria from all reports. Huge respect for them all.

Anyway he loves the Pies alot and would love to play for them if possible but some things are more important than footy. To be honest l don;t reckon he would want to play for anyone else!

I really hope we get this kid back down.

I don't think we'd have much trouble picking him up, assuming he's prepared to make the move down to Melbourne.

What sort of player would he become guys?
Midfielder in the mould of Shaun Burgoyne or Small forward like Alwyn Davey, Brad Dick etc?
