I hope it is still a few years away, but when Cookie finals moves on - to retire or take over at AFL House - who will replace him?

Would someone like S Fox return? Will we promote from within? Source from a wider pool?

I know they are working on succession plans. Does anyone have the inside running on the likely path we may take? And who we would be happy with?

Brian won’t go to the AFL now. The only position he’d be interested in would be CEO there. I suspect Demetriou will have to be prised out of the chair and that won’t happen for at least another two years according to him. And the heir apparent is clearly Gillon McLachlan.

I think Cooky is contracted until the end of 2014. It’s too far off to speculate. So much can happen in the interim. I suspect had Cooky gone to North the front runner from within the club would have been Rob Threlfall.

Frankly I’m hoping Cooky will leave just before he needs a walking frame.:)

His age, in any event, precludes him taking the CEO AFL job.
A spot on the Commission is something else.

Just as an aside and speaking as an HR person, Cook's always struck me as a very HR-savvy individual (I seem to recall hearing somewhere that was one of his areas of focus/speciality). So if they're looking to promote from within, he would almost definitely have a succession plan in place and probably have started with mentoring that person behind-the-scenes.

Article below, Cook says we have a few people that are capable of stepping up into the CEO's box. We are already have a female to step in for a month when he goes to the States.

She is an extremely gifted person," Cook said.

"We've probably got four people here now who could take up the CEO role if pushed.

"I think our leadership around the place is really good

When it comes to the CEO position, I dont give a toss about whether the new person has done time or not within the club, I just want us to get the best possible person, even if they come from outside of footy.

When Cooky got the job, we didn't go for club stalwarts, or anybody who was associated with the club in any way, we went for the best - Cooky. Next time we go for the best again.

Just on Stuart Fox he recently signed a new 5 year deal with Hawthorn

The Hawks want to double the size of the football facilities at their home and build a separate training base away from Waverley for closed sessions.
The moves are key elements of the club's 2013-2017 strategy document, to be presented at its season launch tonight.
The Herald Sun can reveal Hawthorn:
- Has re-signed chief executive Stuart Fox for five years to drive the ambitious project;

Yes, but hopefully as the person in question also ascribes to and respects the core values in the club (with the obvious assumption that the core values are sound). Arguably, that's often easier to find with people who are already familiar associated with the club, but is not an absolute must.

IMO Rob Threlfall would be my first choice to take over from Cooky.
Similar to Costa - Carter he is different but the same, has the same values etc.
Would be a very good CEO IMO (although he would be following the best in Australia).

I think they will check the market out when the time comes, as they should. However I agree that Threlfall would probably be the internal front runner.

I noticed in the piece on the appointment of Rosie King on our website that Hocking and Balme passed on the job preferring to focus on their footy duties.

Still hope Cooky stays until he needs a walking frame.;)

Sad.. he's got his ducks in a row that one....

Go Catters

Not really sure but some of the posters on big footy think they can do a better job than anyone at the club, so maybe one of them will step up :D
