That's only 5 vacancies. Riccardi will be fill the vacancy left by Bluey on the Veterans list. Mensch and Kilpatrick both become eligible for the veterans list this year, so it may not be quite the end of the road for one of them yet, (although you'd think it would be). Are Burns and White eligible for the veteran list? They will both be 30 by the time the season kicks off next year.

Maybe White will retire as well. You wouldn't think his body is up for it.

The club are obliged to promote Rooke and Chapman if they want to keep them, but I think they can still keep Slade and Carrazo on the Rookie list. Chatfield as well, but has he done anything this season?

The big talking point is Street. He is one of my favourite players, but I think it may be time for him to move on. He is only 18 months younger than King and just isn't as good. He would forever be playing in his shadow. He could flourish more at another club who could really use him, like Essendon. Geelong would look to the future with Chanbers and Blake and hopefully score a useful player in any Street draft deal

I would expect Kilpatrick to play on next season and therefore will take the 2nd spot on the veterans list alongside Peter Riccardi. As for David Mensch, I'm not sure if Menschy will play on again after spending most of this season in the VFL.

I think we'll definately look at what we can get for Peter Street, but with Blake likely to be drafted at the end of 2003 and Chambers the only real back up for Steven King in the ruck, I wouldn't be too disappointed if Street was given another opportunity next year.

I hope we keep Danny O'Brien on our list and give him a go next season. He is still only young and is a goalkicker.... something we don't have too many of at the moment.

The only concern I have is with Marc Woolnough. I just think the knee injuries have taken their toll and it will be interesting to see what we do with him next season.

Not too many changes though... I'd have to agree with that.

Go Cats!!

THE Only other player that can be put on the Veterans list is Menschy.

Chapman is not a rookie.
Chambers and Rooke will be promoted. The other 3 will be retained and i would expect Slade to be elevated, during the season.

Bomber is a Huge fan of Woolnough- I am pretty sure that 2001 and 2002 were development years for Marc, so he isnt goint to be let go.

If Bomber is consistent he has to show the same faith that he has shown in Rahilly and Chapman- they played a high standard of game in the VFL but couldn't do it in the AFL. Unless a high quality player can be gained for the trading of Street, it is dicing with trouble to let a 208 cm player go.

Just on Street

Are any of you catters interested in Tim Clarke of hawthorn (brother of David?)

He's not going to get a game at Hawthorn I don't think, what with our 23 new midfielders over the last two years.

And we need a ruckman.

I think it'd be a pretty fair swap......what do you guys think?

Geelong also have a good group of midfielders at the moment, most of them very young so I don't think we'd need to get Tim Clarke. The other question I have is why did Geelong pass on him when we had a chance to get him under father/son??? My guess is we decided he wasn't good enough and if he can't get a game with Hawthorn then I very much doubt he'd make it at Geelong!!

:D No thanks but we already have enough similar type players.

Geelong Didn't pass Tim Clarke didnt want to play for Geelong.

My Dad had an interesting idea the other day.... he thinks we should look at getting the Bradshaw brothers from Brisbane. With the focus on Lynch and Brown in the Brisbane forward line, there's not as many opportunities for both Darren and Daniel Bradshaw to succeed at Brisbane, but at Geelong they would probably both get a chance considering the lack of firepower in our forward line at the moment.

What does everyone think of this idea??

Not a bad idea! I haven't heard much about Darren Bradshaw, but if he's gonna be a good pick up then we should go for it! I like the idea of getting Daniel Bradshaw because he would be a perfect pick up for our forward line! And as you said, he's not going to be much use in Brisbane!

I thought Kingsley/Mooney worked pretty well in our forward line in the end this year. While we are also still holding onto White, and have guys like Playfair coming through, there is no room on the list for either Bradshaw brother.

The problem with taking players from a premiership team is that they will come with a higher price tag as well. I say we leave both of them.

It would be a great result for Geelong if White retires. He is the second highest paid player on the list, and is not representing value for money in economical and business terms.
Sholl retiring helped us out alot.

I believe we will end up trading Street for Dixon. Hawthorn are interested in a ruckman, and nabbing Dixon will hopefully at least give us a good marking option across the half forward line.

Tim Clarke can stay at the Hawks. One Clarke on our list is more than enough.

Getting Dixon would be a bad move. You can't have Dixon,Lord & Burns in the same forward line.

If we got a full forward,Mooney could play CHF & Kingsley forward pocket/half forward.

JUBJUB,

You're absolutely spot on there!! We were always playing one tall short in our forward line this season, and this was forcing Bomber to use Kent Kingsley as our 1st or 2nd key forward. Now I know Kent kicked over 50 goals this season for us, but he will be much more dangerous if he gets the 3rd best defender, not the best or 2nd best. Cameron Mooney needs to continue to improve and hold down one of those key position spots, but we need another tall and mobile marking option in my opinion.

I agree... Don't get Dixon! A perfet pick could be a Burton from Adelaide, I reckon for a full forward!

What do we all think??

I'm thinking we might promote a few of our rookie list players.

Rooke is a cert to be promoted and if Street goes you would think Chambers will get a gig.

Will Slade would have to be close to being promoted too. To play the last 4 games of the year showed that the coaching staff have a high opinion of him and I'd expect he'll be promoted either this year or next year.

And one from left field. Adam Chatfield has been very good in the two's and seems to have really matured as a half back flanker in the VFL. He loves living in and playing for Geelong and I read somewhere that the club expects to have just the minimum number of picks in this years draft, so that gives me the impression that they will do a fair bit of promoting the rookies onto the senior list.

JUBJUB,

Surely we are not keeping both Lord and Burns??
Lord was on a one year contract, neither of them did the job well this year, so I would assume that he will be the one to go.

I still maintain that Dixon would be a better choice than Burton.

I would have to agree with you there Murph. Brett Burton is inconsistant in my opinion, and that's not the sort of player Geelong needs in their forward line.

I'm not sure about Ben Dixon.... I think he's a good player and could be worth picking up if the price/trade is right.

Personally, I think that Dixon would be fairly good, but I wouldn't really want him at Geelong. But if the match committee choose Dixon, they are making the best choise to help the club in their minds, so whoever they choose I am behind them 100%!!

I've been thinking about this, and really there aren't too many good forwards up for grabs. Although we'd love to have all of 'em, the fact is they are a rare quality in trades, and we mightn't get the player we are after. So then we might have to pick up an U18 player from the National Draft to fill that spot. But as I've said before, the match/recruiting committee will choose the best player needed... they know best ;)

2003 list

We need another tall forward desperately. I think Danial Bradshaw would be too much like Kent Kingsley . I would prefer that we try and get Brenden Fevola. I know he has a reputation for being a bit of a dh , but we wouldn't have to give very much to get him , he certainly has flair that our forwards lack and maybe if on his last chance may settle down a little.

We would be mad to go after Dixon.

We have two young players in Johnson and Gardiner who are capable of playing a strong marking half forward flanker.

I wouldn't feed Brendon Fevola!! Mind you, it's not food that Fevola likes best, but rather a drink or 20!! :D:D:D

You're right.

You don't need those blokes who kick 55 goals in a year their club finshes 3rd.

Useless.

I have said it before, and I will say it again. Brett Burton is the player Geelong are after in the forward line. Yes, he may be up and down, but he has more ups than downs. The fact that he can leap, and kick goals should be something we look for.

Players will be inconsistant at some stage in their career, we can't help that. I reckon we should go for Burton. If he can kick his two goals a game, then it's worth it.
