What do you think of my comparison of Belly to Mark Ricciuto?

Bell could be even better! He's the quickest player at the club, as well as being hard at the ball, and a wonderful kick!
Different to Ricciuto IMHO. He is faster than Roo and Roo is harder at it.

Having said that Bell is one hell of a player. There is nothing more that I like in a player is to have all the athletic attributes but also likes to get down and get dirty. I really like Bell and I am sure he is a captain material. Maybe even a Brownlow down the track;)

I just finished watching Brisbane Vs Sydney prelim. Gee whiz wouldn't we LOVE Jonathan Brown??????

If ever there is such a thing as a "franchise player" he is it.

Fergus Watts c'mon down:o

Stiffy, that's what kept going through my brain when I was watching the game tonight. He has the lot, hasn't he? And he plays well in finals.

We MUST get a long-term CHF.

He is just amazing. He just runs all day, throws his body on the line, intimidates the opposition, sets up his team mates, cleans people up. If there is a player you want at CHF Brown would be it.

To me he is just one of those forwards that doesn't need to kick a bag of goals (i reckon he never kicked more than 4 in a game), doesn't even need a lot of possesions but he will set up the play for his side perfectly. I just love watching him play. If there was a MAC truck coming his way he would run with the flight of the ball into it and wouldn't even flinch.

A Great player.

Brisbane take any player (instead of Ricciuto) and 1st and 2nd round draft picks for Brown. I rate him that highly:D

BUMP

I just couldn't resist :p

I was just going through the Woewodin Vs Daniel Bell thread on the main board and lamby29 being a passionate bloke he is made a link to this where I posted big wrap for young Bell. I read on and I came across this gem :p

Sometimes I have to question your double standards, Stiffy.

You constantly berate Doughty for being soft, yet young Trentschel is seriously soft as well, not up for body contact at all, can't crash packs and doesn't like to put his body on the line. Playing as a tall backman it is vitally important that he DOES put his body on the line.

Doughty is a receiver, like Nick Stevens, and Stevens is a pretty soft footballer, it is more important that our tall players are hard at the ball. Trentschel isn't.

So why don't we hear complaints from you about that?

You're comparing an apple with an orange spinny, and coming up with a lemon. ;)

Hentschel has played very few AFL games and while he's not the type that crashes packs, he certainly doesn't pike the issue. I'm more than happy with him and his physical efforts giving the limitations of his somewhat immature body.

On the other hand, Doughty has been on the AFL scene for some 5 to 6 years, and has a good solid physique. Sadly the same man has shirked the issue more than once, and in fact a few times already this year. He got dropped after one particular incident of this earlier this year.

I have said a number of times that Hentschel needs to improve his attack on the footy. No secret about that.

No double standards at all. Doughty is a 25 year old midfielder who has been on the list for ages. Hentschel is a 21 year old KPP who generally take longer to develop. If Hentschel doesn't improve his attack at the ball in the future he will cop it just as much as Doughty.

Doughty might be a receiver but he is no where near the class of Nick Stevens. At least Stevens is consistent and racks up 20+ disposals regularly.

I have said numerous times in other threads that one area Hentschel must improve in is his attack on the all. Nothing is changed. This is something that can be taught. Doughty has been on the list for ages and he is still lacking in that department. He has had 5 years to improve that side of his game and he hasn't.

I don't think he is a bad player but I also think that he is not as good as some poeple think he is.

I'll cop that, Trent is proving himself to be a promising young backman - but in my defence at the time of my post (01-10-2003 01:18 AM) I saw Trentschel as the scared and ineffective little boy who made his debut and looked every bit a crock in the three games he played as a forward last year. ;)

Nick Stevens at Telstra Dome doing what he does best*

*I reckon this was worth a second run given the topic and this week's opposition ;)

If you gave Doughty the amount of gametime Stevens gets, I reckon the numbers would be about even.

Doughty is regularly on the bench, but usually racks up 15 or 16 possessions. With a bit longer on the field there is no doubt he could regularly get 20+, as he was doing in 2002.
