from now on i'm copyrighting 'cone of silence'.

Whilst i basically agree with all you said tapestry, if the lions didnt have this policy of never discussing contracts, i'm sure we'd see less speculation. As it is speculation is all we've got.

Apparently not everything on the internet is true. isn't that it's point?

A little over reaction here.

Baird was a promoted Rookie who played Senior footy.

He was offered another year as a Rookie, and he wanted to try his luck for a senior list via the draft, which I would have thought was fair enough.

Both parties acting in their own best interests:

1. The Lions trying to hold on to a promotable Rookie

and

2. Baird looking for a senior listing now rather than waiting.

To enable Baird to go back into the draft he needed to be delisted (a la McLaren), if it doesn't work out then the Lions can still pick him up via the PSD or Rookie Draft.

Both parties looking out for number one, but acting appropriately.

If Baird is good enough for a senior spot he will be drafted, if still considered by other clubs as on the borderline the Lions can get him back. They must think he is "in the ballpark" to offer another Rookie year.

Loyalty or how much he was paid as a Rookie (from interstate) has nothing to do with it.
