Before I start I put this thread in this board as I thought it would probably be trolled to death in the other sections and I want to hear from people who have an idea, so stick with me here.

The injury list is..
Leon Davis (ankle)
Dale Thomas (collarbone)

And last night Mick said....
"You can only replace players when you've got good players to replace them with and I wouldn't say Williamstown is actually travelling on top of the world either.''

How come the 'Pies have no one knocking on the door to come in to the side from W'town when there are only two injured regular players in the list? Does the list a fall away dramatically after 25-26? Or is Williamstown really not up to scratch at the moment and therefore the players arent showing themselves out as much for a recall?

I havent watched Williamstown but I might turn it over to the ABC for a gander today after reading that, even thought it is against Port Melbourne.

Cheers.

Our depth is reasonable without being outstanding.
R.Shaw, O'Brien, Morrison, Rusling, Rowe, Davies, Richards, Fanning, C.Cloke, Iacobucci all played for Williamstown or their reserves today and all have played games in the AFL this year. Of those only O'Brien and R.Shaw have made an impact and furthermore realistically only Davies, Richards, Rusling (maybe) and C.Cloke can fit in the side without having to be carried.

Our problem with our depth is we lack any so-called senior players at Williamstown, apart from maybe Rhyce Shaw and Cameron Cloke. Our young blokes are doing well (Anthony, Rusling, O'Brien, Davies, Rowe as well as Egan T Cloke Iles and Pendlebury in the seniors) but they cant all be expected to walk straight into the senior team. The other senior players at Willy - Morrison, Hall, Walker Richards etc are the type who should be called up for the Collingwood team whan needed, but they are just not good enough.

This topic has been done to death. Our depth is slowly improving as the talented young kids gain experience and the duds get weeded out.

Very good arguement Timmy. A couple of years ago we didn't draft or recruit well and as a consequence we have had Hall, Walker, Billy Morrison, B Shaw, Fanning, Chad Morrison, Andrew Williams, Richards, (maybe add Yakka) all being delisted or in the process of being delisted.

Since then we have got Derek Hine who has picked up some good kids who really have a future: Thomas, Pendlebury, Egan, T. Cloke, Davies, O"brien, Anthony. A couple of more years of drafting with Hine and the continued process of weeding out the duds through delisting will help improve the depth we have.

I was infuriated with this comment.
Williamstown, after a 27 point win, are sitting fourth at 10-7.
Williamstown Reserves, after a pyss-weak performance in winning by 'just' 43 points, are sitting on top, 17-0, with a percentage of 261% (down from just over 300% two weeks ago).
So therefore there MUST BE PLAYERS who are playing reasonably well.

Then again, I also understand that he would be absolutely filthy on the players after the effort he'd just watched, and I can't imagine having to face the media when you're in a mood like that. Mrs. MM asked me why he even showed up, and I had to tell her it's because all coaches are "contracted" to give post-match press conferences regardless of how they feel!

You are absolutely spot on here Mate. I couldn't understand after that whole review was done as to why Dud, I mean Judkins was not sacked from the club and made accountable for some pathetic rectuiting between 2001-2003! A recruiter who was from the stone age with some of his recruiting and as a result, left us with a very thin depth at the moment.

Thankfully, Hine actually seems to know what he is doing and with a couple more seasons of good recruiting, should rectify this problem. He certainly started was behind the eight ball when he came in and has had to play catch up ever since!

Poor list management is the simple answer. It is no secret we drafted poorly for a few years around 2002/3. On top of that we have taken and kept some ordinary players – McKee, Williams, Morrison, etc being poor trades and Walker, Hall, Richards, Fanning and the like being poor returns for holding them for longer than necessary. We have drafter, traded, culled and retained poorly. That has left our list way thinner that it should be given our drafting positions over the last 7 years since we won the spoon.

All just IMO of course. What isn’t just my opinion though is that MM is right in that we lack depth even with a short injury list.

I think Judkins was and still is (he still does some work for our club) a good talent spotter especially with his smokies but wasn't so great with managing a list and identifying the best players for our needs.
IMO he is an out and out dud. List all the good players he brought to us and where in the draft they were taken. Off the top I make it as Fraser at 1 was the prevailing wisdom at the time, Didak at 3 was a pretty standard selection and then it all gets very difficult to even spot the easy good gets. I don’t recall when exactly he started with us so I may be doing him a disservice but at least since 1999 he ahs been terrible. The other factor to consider is how much say Malthouse has had in the drafting. I recall Balme saying early in the MM reign that MM favoured the wide bodied midfielders and that is what the drafting was therefore geared to. That was an atrocious policy given the results.

Swan, Johnson, Wakelin, Maxwell, Shaws, Lonie - Clement, Holland in trades
