I still think the one thing our team is really missing is a metres-gained, attacking half-back who breaks the lines.

NWM has to be our man.

The Saints' gameplan is to literally get the ball in his hands and run. 15 kicks in the last quarter alone yesterday was brilliant to watch.

In modern-day football, good teams set up their plays from Half-Back - we haven't nailed that part of our gameplan yet. NWM would address that in spades.

Surely Nasiah would be looking at us and thinking we aren't far off challenging wheras Port are spiralling down.
Given he was number 2 on our board in draft year I presume we have a strong relationship with him pre-draft, which might be as important as his mates at Port.
Not withstanding the NGA academy bit.

Agree which is why its interesting to look at how Smith went as opposed to both Laird and Milera

Smith 522 v Sydney

Milera 540 - 200m above his best

Laird v Eagles 272 season best 419

That was Mileras best game and lets hope he can continue

NWM 795 v Melbourne and averaging 500+

If Milera continues on then Laird would be the one under the gun - unless of course we use Laird as the defensive and Milera as the attacking

We have three roughly equal needs imo - another A-grade mid (unless/until Peatling and Soligo get to A-grade), a fast, goal-kicking small forward, and an attacking half back with a deadly kick.

I think the mid can wait, at least for a year or two until we find out whether Soligo ends up at that A grade level. Also we have Draper still to come in

Small forward I think needs to come through the draft, someone that can eventually replace ANB when he ages out. That’s assuming Pedlar can continue to be solid

Would be very helpful for us if Jermaine Miller (2026 draft class, tied to us through our NGA) comes on.

Can you imagine augmenting him into the half back line with Max and Worrell around him as very poised quality ball users. IF he is after success, surely he looks at what we are building here list wise and playing style wise and thinks, I could tip that into premiership contention

The massive metres gain ...

If a team is inefficient at kicking goals per I50, the ball rebounds back for their rebounders to get another crack at m gained.

If you get a goal and a centre bounce the ball starts closer to the opponents goal.

Do massive meters gained games occur when one or other team scores a bunch of behids? Or does it correlate with marks in D50 or intercept marks?

NWM is in town talking to his manager during St Kilda bye. Perhaps, he is referring to him?

This is subterfuge, there's no contract that couldn't be drawn up over the phone.

Meeting with family? Of course.
Meeting his manager, rival coaches and touring clubrooms in the dead of night? That's where my money's at

NWM surely will not be attending an opposition club's game, when it's been reported that club have offered an 8 year deal.

If he wants to support Wayno, he can attend our finals games once the Saint's season is over.
So long as it's within the rules, who cares.

Agreed. We just beat Sydney by 90 despite them having 13 more clearances than us. A fortnight ago vs Collingwood we had 10 more clearances and lost. Elite ball use and defensive pressure is what seems to win in the current game.

Having two top end key forwards and an elite small forward also helps.

How would you know?
From the outside, NWM look to be more loyal. Houston's last contract when he re-signed long term wasn't on what he is worth given he made AA (Cornes mentioned this) and given what Port Power was prepared to pay Perryman, he looked at his option to leave for more money with Melbourne agreed on 2 1st rounders but he changed his mind after the fall out at Melbourne.

Houston character assassination seems inappropriate. Port didn't value him correctly, their loss.
If Port had offered him the same as Pies, I reckon he stays. Port wanted draft capital.

NWM doesn't look any more loyal than any player that's left their club. Not until he signs with Saints.
