How does the Rookie list work these days?

Looking on footywire and McAndrew is listed as a rookie. Surely we will be looking at a promotion to main list?

Additionally, looking at potential delistings. I would assume Scholl is gone. If Dowling doesn't get games, gotta assume he is gone; end of contract on footywire. Surely Jones makes way, or keep in on the list as Tasmania bait? Oscar Ryan? Tyler Welsh?

Of the rest of 2026 contact expiry;
Borlase is definitely handy depth, does he get elevated of rookie list?
Zac Taylor would be renewed.
Berry gets an extension.
Pedlar as well, we need his toughness as long as his body can be sticky taped and rubber banded together.
Hinge gets an extension, but is UFA.

Butts has already been recently discussed, including in the media.


We would have to play our best draft hand now before compromised drafts. Take all our picks and lock away as many required players as we can.

Coming into the MSD I think the Club needs to assess our priorities.

Long Term Injuries – No.

List weakness possibly Ruck if we decide ROB is unplayable and we can’t rest McAndrew. Could Murray be 1st Ruck in an AFL game. Maybe May from Westies.

Upgrade off SANFL list. Maybe Bell but would be for 2 reasons FOMO & Bird Rights.

Currently Bell rates probably 6th best KPD at the Crows. We play 3 KPD each game. Noting we are also picking Cotton & Maley as KPD. We have 2 KPD’s coming out of contract in 2026 being Butts & Borlase. If we pick Bell even for a 6 month contract we could have the Rights to re-sign if a Butts or Borlase left. To use the NBA term we would have his Bird Rights. FOMO was if we think he is in demand elsewhere.

Every week I’m seeing the other top draftees from 2024 thriving at AFL level — especially the top 6 picks and blokes like Murphy Reid already looking right at home.

Meanwhile Draper seems completely out of sight.

Any updates on how he’s actually tracking? How’s his SANFL form been? Is it fitness/body management still or is he just not pushing hard enough for selection yet?

Curious how close people think he is to getting a crack at AFL level…

More concerning part is that he wasn’t close before the injury.

Not writing the kid off at all, but when you see other player’s from the same draft already holding their own at AFL level, it’s hard not to wonder where he’s actually at in his development.

Serious groin injury in the preseason, some posters even said he wouldn't play this year. Look good in the 2nd half against in a SANFL game around 4 weeks ago with his power and running speed and as expected he struggled to back it up the following weeks and then got a fracture jaw.
