Have you actually watched much of Henry Smith?

I don't believe he's ready to lead an AFL ruck on what I've seen thus far and why would Brisbane be chasing Draper or ROB if they thought he was given he's contracted for 2026 and McInerny with his back issues and veteran Darcy Fort age wise?
Just put his name in as he had been discussed. should have left him out. My point was that they may have lined up a ready to go ruck, which you have mentioned a number of them, and are happy to let ROB go to get an additional compensation pick.

I honestly believe either ROB or Draper will be our lead ruck next year, and of course I've made my preference known there but how about we do something really novel and draft a young ruck to develop, probably mid/late/rookie this year.

Of course we could wait until next year's draft and beg, borrow or steal to nab SA's Ethan Herbert who IMO is looking like the best ruck prospect from SA in ages.

We seem to have gone off the idea of drafting our own ruckman and developing them from scratch. ROB was the last one we did that with and he was a rookie.

Since then the Lowden, Hunter, Strachan, McAndrews of the world have all been mature-agers/re-treads.

Realistically hard to think of a ruckman we drafted since we drafted Meesen, Maric, Griffen (rookie draft), Sellar and Tippett all within a few years of each other.

Bingo, and us going cold with developing rucks coincided with Justin Reid taking over list management. We've taken 40+ picks since Reid became list manager, and it's harder to avoid a developing ruck then take one with that many opportunities if all is evaluated equally.

This is his gamble, that when push came to shove with ROB, there would be a capable replacement ready to be plucked from the wasteland of backup rucks and the buyers remorse contracts. Or we'd hit big beforehand, as we've certainly been (unsuccessfully) willing to throw around wads of cash for big name rucks in this time.

My Draper sources say he does not want to go to Brisbane, he will either stay at Essendon or come to Adelaide, even if Brisbane offer more money than the other two it only ever gonna be home to SA or staying
Hopefully stays with Dons.

Triple M footy saying before wouldn’t be totally shocked if Merrett asked for a fresh start

Don’t know where we’d sit within teams he’d consider
Well we should enquire as he is easily their best player.

Does he want to leave Melbourne though?

What do you think we should do?

I'm inclined to give him 3 years and hope for the best.

The other options don't look that great.

ROB cruising for 2 years isn’t that great an option either. Plus, we want him performing like this for the rest of the year. Securing him long term is the last thing I’d be doing right now. I’d pull the offer and put it on the pile with Tex and the others that are waiting till season is done.

Why hasn't McAndrew's recent presence been factored into ROB's current form more for that express reason, surely ROB has to see the younger McAndrew as a bigger threat to his position than Strachan has been being of a similar age and height? McAndrew dominates the SANFL similar to Strachan and that extra height certainly isn't a hindrance?

Either way, it’s him choosing to work harder based on something other than giving his all for the team. But I’d say wanting a longer and more valuable contract than what’s been offered is greater influence than increased risk of being dropped. He played bad enough to get dropped even with Strachan as backup.

McAndrew is currently a way bigger threat To ROB's continuity than Strachan has been in recent years whether you want to believe it or not.

Does It really matter what external factor drives him? If McAndrew does a knee, where back with the phone ot in version. That’s why we can’t risk a longer contract with him, he’s not self motivated to bring his best week in and week out.

Wouldn’t be Reid’s decision in isolation, it would be the list management committee making calls like that. Coincides with Roo joining the board too. But to think a single employee would be responsible for such strategy when there’s a bunch of heavy hitters on a committee is way off the mark.

Huge game from Dodson in the VFL last week, albeit in a big win against the 2nd bottom team. Rest of his season has been quiet but appears to be slowly improving (which is expected for an 18yo ruck). Still surprised we didn't find a way to get a pick around 50 to get him.

Don't forget he's also been behind Max Heath and Harry Boyd in the Zebras' ruck department across the season

I think he's serious quality and one to watch very closely. Should've taken him last year.

Find it very strange we didn't prioritise getting Goad or Dodson when they were available.

Could have traded Edwards and Ryan picks to make sure we got Goad.

Once it looks like Port are going to attain the capital that could make it happen. JHF was a late call, expecting similar with NWM.

It will probably be announced on Mad Monday.

The AFL will make sure a young indigenous player can get to his club of choice for family reasons.

It won't be a second round or something stupid like that but Port will get him for unders.

The AFL and player Managers will make sure this one is smooth.
