I still think we are up to our eyeballs in NWM cant see anyway port get him unless they trade butters

Ofc we're certainly into him, I just don't feel like it's reciprocated. He wants to go to Port because his mates are there, we don't really have an angle outside of being in Adelaide (lol). When it comes to money and success we're not going to beat Geelong.

Why do we have salary cap tightness?

Rachele, Soligo, Thillthorpe, Rankine and Dawson have all been recently signed longterm.
Impending tightness. Whatever salary we can shave off now, means we can front load ROB and whoever we attract in the next couple trade periods.

We've been throwing money around. We offered Gulden ten years.

All reports are we have stacks of space, now and in the future.

The league could ensure any first-band compensation pick comes in only as a mid-first-round pick at pick 11 after the teams who missed finals have their first selections.
Or it could tie the compensation to specific selections in the draft – pick 5, pick 10, pick 20 and so on – which better reflects the size of the player’s contract instead of the team’s ladder position.

They whinge as soon as a non Vic team benefits.
I'm still pissed about the brad Crouch compò being stopped when vfl media cried foul.

Listening to ROB tonight on 5AA, we have offered him the 3rd year and it’s heading towards a re-signing
That's good. Twomey recently said Draper likely to Brisbane.
Should mean all our spare cash goes towards recruiting a player of need.

ROB a fair bit more expensive now than he would have been at the start of the season.

Credit to him.

I was happy we held off though, even though it will likely end up costing more.

Ports draft hand is not dissimilar to ours. The only advantage we have currently is pick 16 v their pick 26. Otherwise they have all futures and a 3rd rounder this year as well.
They will have the ability to get it done

If not NWM, then Ah Chee or Bailey (I’d be happy getting him as a ‘pre-agent’, given we seem to be in the window and have space to front-load)

Or someone like a Phillipou next year

I think we need someone now. Window is opening next year, if not already this finals series.

A draft pick of 16 is a significantly better starting point of 26...

I reckon Butters is off to the Dogs, enabling NWM to Port. I live in hope though.

Re the AFL’s free agency review - compo being linked to a club’s ladder position is exactly the whole bloody point.

Dominant Brisbane taking a player from one of the worst teams ever absolutely should result in the Eagles getting great compo, otherwise we’re heading towards EPL trends of the best teams always being the best.
