Taylor's spot will be at risk from Draper next year you'd think, is he even in the team once Rach is back?

Yeah feels like he goes out for Rash. Cook’s overtaken him for that wing/fwd spot now, too
Berry going forward if Draper comes on?

Both of Pedlar and Taylor will become depth?

Lots of teams have a bull and Berry provides muscle and grunt to our stoppages. Berry this week for example, will be good on Newcombe.

I'm liking Sam circa 2025.

If Draper comes on and plays full mid minutes next year, I would be happy to release Dawson and let him follow the play wherever he wants.

I agree

Going forward it'll be "nice" having a variety of options

Here's the most notable trades over the last 5 years and the cost to do it (picks beyond 40 are ignored). It's all just draft picks and fringe players. If NWM nominates us there is zero chance we are trading out Rachele.

Yeah, the talk of a player like Rash is nuts anyways. I honestly think if the Saints got two picks and Butts they have gotten a decent deal.

Realistically the Saints won’t be getting full value if they lose him either way.

We likely don’t have a top 10 pick to give, let alone 2 and Port have handed over this years first already.

I’d say we’re going to have to put up our next two firsts and seconds if we were to get it done, plus maybe a fringe guy if that player is interested in a move.

NWM is UNCONTRACTED at this point. It really does matter.
True.
St kilda will ultimately have to accept the best OFFER the nominated team provides.

Although Sydney might disagree re Dawson, I feel we have reputation and history of being reasonable to deal with.

At this point of our progression, I'm actually more concerned by the cap space NWM would consume and any potential intra club results of that. Financial and in a collegiate sense.

I'd be very happy if we're not the highest bidder but are still chosen due to our team, our club and the real potential of living and working in an awesome environment for the life of our long contract offer. Our pitch should strongly include an opportunity to become part of something more than a 'squeeze the last dollar from them there suckers'.

I hope he comes....for the right reasons, not money alone.

And St kilda get the best we can offer.

Normally if you trade your 1st you can’t trade other picks in that year

My guess:

Retire: Smith
De-list: Strachan, Schoenberg, Murphy, Burgess
Re-sign: Taylor (2 years), Walker (1 year, I reckon he may retire if we get a flag though), Bond (1 year, however wouldn’t be surprised if he gets another offer and we end up trading), Gallagher (I know nothing of him but assume a cat B will stay on)

Crouch is then the big question. I think he’s probably at the end of his time with us but it’s looked that way before, I would imagine West Coast would probably look at him if he wants consistent AFL footy, but I also get the vibe he’s content to play SANFL if he has to.
I pretty much agree with this - the only thing I'd do differently is MAYBE keep Burgess as a rookie (it's good CHEAP backup in a difficult position to find depth), and I'd redraft Bond as a rookie. If he's not tradable, I'd move Sholl to rookie list as well, so we have more main list draft spots than rookie draft spots.

Surely Sholl has some trade currency. If we delist him I reckon he gets snapped up somewhere else

Interesting analysis.

We only have 15% of players in the 30+ category.

Pies, Saints & Blues all have around 40%, so they may struggle to replenish their older players. Blues probably in most hurt. Pies have more depth. Saints older players indict think are as good.
Wow, Carlton should be way better if they have that list profile.

Haaaaah, suck it.

Much like Crouch... I don't think clubs will pay that much. We might get a second rounder for them + a 3rd rounder. E.g. we can do a pick upgrade.

Probably worth doing for both, if it means they get to be in a best 22 on some team and we get something for it.

Yeah I agree, Sholl would probably only get a 3rd rounder back

But a 3rd rounder is better than nothing

Crouch has no currency because he's an unrestricted free agent

Thank fukc Harrison Petty didn't take up our offer a few years ago. Imagine giving up one or two fist rounder for him.
I knew of a kid called Petty that went to Mawson High School back in the day. Anyone from Mawson would know the story about him. I wonder if he is related...

The absolutely wild thing with this is you can see the Dan Curtin impact. 9% of our total player ratings come from the 18-21 group of which, only three players eligible who have played this year. Draper has barely contributed and Max isn't a players ratings kind of performer.

Yeah I think what’s even more promising about this graph for us is that player ratings underrate defenders. To look this good without fair recognition of young guns like Max, Worrell, and Murray/Butts is great.

Were all traded as uncontracted?

And while he has been world beating recently, 3 months ago he was just a very good half back flank. Is this just the purplest of patches?
That all changed when he proved he's a legitimate A grade midfielder.

Talk of getting anything for Sholl is laughable - he walks for free is anyone wants him - pick 60

I'd be happy for him to land a new a club

Sam McClure stating Matthew Nicks privately called Sam Draper and said he has a role for us big time if he comes here, (I don't believe it) but who knows?

The thing about all that reporting, is they can just say “sources have told us”, and as long as they can stand behind that they can twist the story however they like.

It may be true that Nicks might have said that, but that could have been at the start of the year, that could have been when we were only offering ROB 1-2 years and thought he might leave.

I think it’s just as likely that his manager has leaked this now because we have pulled our offer after signing ROB, and they want to drive his price up a bit elsewhere.

I’d be extremely surprised if we spent big $$$ on Draper after just re-signing ROB.
