Yes because he’s going to join a rebuilding side that’s about to lose its 3 best players (if you believe the rumours) in the next 2 years…..

When Butters inevitably leaves this year, the Power will have the most cap room of all clubs. That clearly leaves them in the race next year for NWM.

They'll have plenty of cap space, but not a lot of currency. Especially with their NGA/FS picks over the next 2 years and the AFL changing the rules on them(lol).

Will be an interesting watch to see how they manoeuvre it.

If St Kilda are trending upwards over the next 2 years, NWM likely extends.

He had the chance last year to come to either AFC or the Power and he chose the Saints.

If things don't go well there, then we'll be in the discussion again in '27.
yeah thats fair and i tend to agree. but assumes saints makes finals (however thats defined these days) this year and/or next surely? they are 11th fave for flag so perhaps battling for a play in spot this year

hard for any high profile player to leave clubs after 6 years when the easiest option is to extend another 2 years to FA status

just others on here maintaining that he will only choose power if returning to SA are just being negative. its contrary to what the people that actually matter firmly believe re nwm

not sure about georgie, who is top 3 or 4 on their list now but their best player and 5th best (berg) are "100% DEFINITELY GONE". and its a beautiful thing and a complete 180 to us losing gun players every year a decade or so ago whilst power managed to keep most of their talented interstaters

Money is success
so is being very rich (albeit possibly slightly less than you would have been with the highest absolute offer) AND being successful in your career (team success)

i would argue this is actually an outcome many well off footballers would actually choose and why the kangas and saints have thrown massive $$ at SO many players the last decade and basically none have paid off in acquiring prime aged elite talent (and i am not counting tdk on 1.7m here as elite despite the ridiculous offer). under your lens, kangas get giants kelly, saints get callaghan etc etc

Speaking of veteran mids, wonder if Roughead would make a splash and bring in Tom Mitchell in msd?
Played for Nhill yesterday and looks to have trained off a bit, so I would say no.

Tom Williamson is the best country footballer in Victoria if you wanted to go down that pass.

Interesting question re Roughead

It would be his first chance to impact our list, outside of any future contracts he sorts

Would he have a player in mind, stashed away somewhere?

I think we'd be hoping Draper & Curtin are our midfield additions as the season goes on but a small, crumbing forward maybe? Or a half back distributor/metres gained specialist?

If they’re happy with how Bell is tracking at SANFL level they may grab him, with the potential of losing Butts at the end of the year.

I think the fact that he won’t have been here long, he will be acting purely under instruction and will do whatever is asked of him from the coaching and recruitment departments. Would be very audacious to go rogue and bring a player in and potentially go against other plans that may already be in place having only been here 4 or 5 months at that stage.

I wonder if it's the other way

We'd be hoping he'd come in with ideas, have an impact

And he'd be keen to impress too

Except he’s already been linked to port.

He’s also stayed at the saints short term so that’s proof that winning isn’t everything to him.

Speaking of Sturt is Robe in sturts zone? I thought the south east was Glenelg so how did Dawson end up at Sturt?

Was.

LSE zones were carved up between the good guys and Sturt. Some champions of the game have not had the opportunity to wear the black and gold... and be forced to wear a temu version of an M&M's Carlton guernsey, but in 2022, that zone has now become the Glenelg zone.

No longer are parents persuading their sons not to take up winter sports now that they can represent a proper club.

Sturt produces champions

No need to read deeper or further

We produce champions, Glenelg buys them
