That’s exactly what we said with Danger and then Crouch. ‘We have the space to match, we’ll wait and see what comes in’.

They’ll offer what they think they can and of course they’re going to let clubs know they need to blow them out of the water. It’s not spin, it’s strategy and it’s real. If they get adequate AFL compo, they walk away. If they don’t, they match and force a trade.

Not quite the same motivation.

I doubt Brisbane have the ability to match under their cap .
They would already know how much compensation they’re getting . It’s guaranteed to be tier 1 compensation.

The acquired team?

B: S Stevens Bassett Massie
HB: Torney Caven Keane
C: Seedsman Dawson Ah Chee
HF: Lynch Carey Jarman
F: Rankine Welsh Betts
Fol: Jacobs McLeod McGuiness
Int from: Clarke Jenkins Gibbs S Thompson ANB Stengle B James

Carey, Jarman, Betts and Rankine is a single forwardline...
Tough team to break into but didn't Troy Bond kick 4 goals in the 97 grand final? Came from Carlton to us.

But it's so long ago I could be wrong.

In

Demons didn’t want Petracca to go, he was never a force out like Oliver. They were only letting him go for a huge bounty, which eliminated us. Same as the Essendon situation with Merrett. Dees were just more pragmatic, Dons are a rabble.
The Melbourne model of rebuilding will be followed.
Cheap veterans should be available for contending teams.

Talking about Oliver and Petracca - both on huge long term contracts (Olivers partly paid by dees) would we consider:

Patrick Cripps - just turned 31. Dual b/low medalist. Contract ends 2027 google saying only 850k ish

Kingy and Kane saying he could likely be offered up under a new coach reset which is now fait accompli similar to King at Dees getting rid of Pets, May and Oliver

They mentioned Cripps back to WA but Freo dont need him and Weagles are years off success. Cripps has played 4 finals in his whole career and I imagine would value finals

Assuming he becomes only a part of our midfield rotation - doesnt need to be a clear number one - would we offer a 2+1 type deal inc possibly bringing him in as an Assistant/Development coach when his 2 or 3 years playing time is up?
We have no doubt seen the best of him - but we all thought the same about Petracca who is less than a year younger - do we target him? Berry leaves for a second rounder under this scenario - perhaps to Blues even. Cripps thrown into the potential target mix of Bailey, Chandler and Swallow but a midfield rotation of:

Dawson, Rankine, Cripps, Rachele, Soligo, Curtin, Draper and Bailey (Peatling, Edwards etc) - STRIKE ME PINK
So you actually know what capitals are ;)

Not sure why we continue to throw Draper into a mid field mix, we have hardly seen the guy, and from the sample I have seen he’s not the messiah
Probably because hes a pick 4 high achieving midfielder ??

He doesnt have to be the messiah, but he absolutely needs to, and will be a vital piece of the puzzle.

I hope you're right, I really do. But the longer he spends in the SANFL, the less likely it appears that this will ever happen.

Feels a bit like a Fogarty slow burn, passable type at the moment.
Which isn't what we should be expecting for a pick 4.
The SANFL reports aren't encouraging. Hoping he makes it, because we really need his pace (if for no other reason). Hoping that he'll come good once he gets over his injury problems and regains confidence in his body.

Having said that, I'm starting to get concerned that we may have burned that pick.

Bit misleading.

Only a handful of mids have got more than 30 touches against us - Daicos, Smith, Neale, Ashcroft.

The below was yesterday, was replying to someone basically saying the same thing as the tweet.

You're playing a little bit of a trick here.

In the context of drafting and rebuilding, there are draft picks 4 and 8 yet to be fully exposed to the midfield. You know this.

Because they are not yet midfield guns, you get to say what you said.

If I was to point to Jones as a midfielder taken at 9 and he could be the answer, you could shoot that down, can you do the same with Curtin and Draper? No, but they haven't yet made it, so you get to pretend they don't exist.

Forget Talia's cat, this is Schrodinger's cat.

He was a gun at SANFL level, who never quite managed to translate that to AFL level.

Seriously, who would he replace in that forward line? Modra is the first player picked in that entire team. Loathe him as I do for what he did when leaving, but the pond scum's AFL achievements shit all over Hodges'. Gunston, Betts & Cameron all have him covered by 2 laps of the Flemington Racecourse, not just the straight.
He was injured more often than not in 1991-1993. Still manages 78 goals in the first two years. Even in 1993 when he did play with Modra he was able to contribute. 6 Goals against St Kilda and 4 against Brisbane. He be in front of any of those players on the bench. And certainly in front of McArtney on the field as a forward

**** me, we're all about the immediate titillation. He has consistently been the best amongst his age group, and he's had a few injuries last year and this. He's EIGHTEEN MONTHS into his career, and a bloody kid.

Christ, people need to relax.

What tha? Bont got 30, Serong 32, Flanders 30, Butters and Wines 30, his tweet said hit 30.

And opposition top possession winners have majority been mids, whereas have been defenders.

mid field yes, but I just see him a fair way off of AFL mid as we stand

He has time.

I have no idea where he is at with his body right now. I assume he has reached the point where he has been green lit for AFL selection and now it's just form/opportunities holding him back but I have no idea 🤷‍♂️

Playing top ups in Boyle and Drury in the middle ahead of him is the issue.

Kind of defeats the purpose of even having a reserves side.

With the OP having forgotten to include Gunston, McArtney moves to LRO - leaving no room for Hodges on the field.

I've been thinking about the best side that we left behind, those players that chose to leave for another club and those we pushed out for one reason or another.

Not surprisingly, it's a cracking team

B: Jake Lever, Phil Davis, Sean Wellman

HB: Martin Mattner, Nathan Bock, Brenton Sanderson

C: Bernie Vince, Patrick Dangerfield, Kane Johnson

HF Kurt Tippett, Jason McCartney, Eddie Betts

F: Tyson Stengle, Tony Modra, Charlie Cameron

R: Shaun Rehn, Tyson Stengelin, Jarrod Lyons

I: Brad Crouch, Ricky Henderson, Ivan Maric, Billy Frampton, Scott Welsh

There are 8 players who went on to win a flag (or two for Charlie) at their new club and one player who was very unlucky

Who have I overlooked?

Steven Morris is unlucky.

It doesn’t matter how good a 19 or 20 year old is, if they have an injury interrupted pre season, they just cannot rock up to an SANFL game and dominate.

Sid Draper is coming off an injury interrupted pre season with a troubled groin and is only now starting to build on his match fitness.

He has demonstrated he has a very good turn of speed and a few midfield tricks. Now he is getting his match day fitness at an acceptable level. His next goal is to start playing consistently in the midfield and until he had confidence in his body, that won’t happen.

The SANFL isn’t some bum league. It had very good players, stop being disrespectful because a 20 year old isn’t dominating. It’s not that easy.

From the outside (haven’t Been able to watch a heap of SANFL) it feels like they’re trying to improve his weaknesses at the expense of allowing him to maximise his strengths

Has Sid Draper had a pre season yet?

Feel like he's been injured for the last two, at least

Definitely had some interruptions but today is game six of SANFL this year and we are a third of the way through the AFL season. There should be a time soon where he starts to put pressure on selection.

For the record, Id just play him. We are not going far with the current midfield so may as well give him a go. Has to be a block of games as well.

I think he will end up being a good AFL player but not sure he will reach the heights that some were hoping

Not kind of, completely defeats the purpose of.
