This is really simple - all of Essendon's listed players for 2003, bar retirees. In short, put down what you would like to be done with each player (keep, trade, delist), and maybe give a short reason why. Also, list any developments you would like to see made with certain players (i.e. Mark Johnson should go to back pocket, etc.)

1. Mark Johnson
2. Mark Mercuri
3. Aaron Henneman
4. Jobe Watson
5. James Hird
6. Sean Wellman
7. Dean Solomon
8. Jason Winderlich
9. Adam Ramanauskas
10. Mark McVeigh
11. Damien Peverill
12. Andrew Welsh
13. Damian Cupido
14. Jason Johnson
15. Robert Forster-Knight
17. Darren Walsh
18. Matthew Lloyd
19. David Hille
20. Ted Richards
21. Danny Jacobs
22. Tristan Cartledge
23. Mark Bolton
24. Joe Misiti
25. Scott Lucas
26. Jason Layc ock
28. Cory McGrath
29. Joel Reynolds
30. Sam Hunt
31. Dustin Fletcher
33. Adam McPhee
35. James Davies
36. Jordon Bannister
37. Marc Bullen
38. Shane Harvey
39. Ben Haynes
40. Courtney Johns
41. Ken Hall
42. Simon O'Keefe
43. Dean Rioli
44. Adrian Wilson (R)
45. Toby McGrath (R)
46. Scott Howard (R)

Players to leave, either through trade or delisting:
2. Mark Mercuri
3. Aaron Henneman
15. Robert Forster-Knight
21. Danny Jacobs
23. Mark Bolton
24. Joe Misiti
28. Cory McGrath
35. James Davies
36. Jordon Bannister
38. Shane Harvey
40. Courtney Johns
41. Ken Hall
42. Simon O'Keefe
44. Adrian Wilson (R)
45. Toby McGrath (R)
46. Scott Howard (R)

Don't really know anything about the bottom few (after Shane Harvey).

I would like to think that the prospect of getting either one of Henna, Jacobs or Bolts over to Port may be enough for us to land Stevens.

I think the other players mentioned are dispensable and could be used to lure a player that the club need, an established midfielder with some real pace.

Also, list any developments you would like to see made with certain players (i.e. Mark Johnson should go to back pocket, etc.)

1. Mark Johnson (keep in midfield)
2. Mark Mercuri (Bendigo... Fringe senior selection. Take a pay cut Mercs, this is your last chance)
3. Aaron Henneman (sweetener in trade, or groom for key defensive post in Bendigo)
4. Jobe Watson (Bendigo. May play a few senior games next year)
5. James Hird (Trade to Richmond)
6. Sean Wellman (Floating backman)
7. Dean Solomon (Prefer him in defence)
8. Jason Winderlich (Should get a run next year. Has all the tools, should be a gun player)
9. Adam Ramanauskas (If/When, will be our number one midfielder)
10. Mark McVeigh (Hopefully he doesn't leave, did a great job in back pocket)
11. Damien Peverill (Tagging/Rover)
12. Andrew Welsh (Small defender)
13. Damian Cupido (Goalsneak)
14. Jason Johnson (Rover)
15. Robert Forster-Knight (Delist/trade)
17. Darren Walsh (Continue to develop. Looks a good wingman prospect)
18. Matthew Lloyd (Trade to Richmond)
19. David Hille (Sign up ASAP. Will be a gun ruckman, but needs support)
20. Ted Richards (Could play as third tall up forward or down back. His versatility is very pleasing)
21. Danny Jacobs (Useful trade bait to snare a gun. With Wellman as floating backman, we don't need another).
22. Tristan Cartledge (Bendigo ruckman)
23. Mark Bolton (Wingman or flanker)
24. Joe Misiti (Trade or fringe senior selection. Handy bench player)
25. Scott Lucas (Should become the best CHB in the league next year. Just needs to tighten up his defensive work, still plays a little too loose)
26. Jason Laycock (Bendigo. Could be a handy tall forward or ruckman in a few years)
28. Cory McGrath (Trade bait)
29. Joel Reynolds (Put him in the gym. Has all the tools to be a good wingman)
30. Sam Hunt (Will be a good key defender, just needs an opportunity)
31. Dustin Fletcher (Trade to Richmond)
33. Adam McPhee (Wingman or half back)
35. James Davies (Delist/trade)
36. Jordon Bannister (Delist/trade)
37. Marc Bullen (Tagging/Small defender)
38. Shane Harvey (Delist/Trade)
39. Ben Haynes (Small forward/half forward)
40. Courtney Johns (Key forward)
41. Ken Hall (Delist/trade)
42. Simon O'Keefe (May become second ruckman, otherwise first Bendigo ruckman)
43. Dean Rioli (Possible trade, otherwise one more chance to become the player he should be).
44. Adrian Wilson (R) (Delist)
45. Toby McGrath (R) (May go with his brother)
46. Scott Howard (R) (Delist)

He'll be a gun player. He'll probably step straight into the seniors next year, we need another genuine tall forward to help Lloyd.

1. Mark Johnson - Keep
2. Mark Mercuri - Paycut
3. Aaron Henneman - Trade
4. Jobe Watson - Keep
5. James Hird - Keep
6. Sean Wellman - Keep
7. Dean Solomon - Keep
8. Jason Winderlich - Keep
9. Adam Ramanauskas - Keep
10. Mark McVeigh - Keep - but if rumours are trade he wants back to Sydney.
11. Damien Peverill - Keep
12. Andrew Welsh - Keep
13. Damian Cupido - Keep
14. Jason Johnson - Keep
15. Robert Forster-Knight - Trade
17. Darren Walsh - Keep
18. Matthew Lloyd - Keep
19. David Hille - Keep
20. Ted Richards - Keep
21. Danny Jacobs - Unsure - he's class but if trading him means we get Stevens...
22. Tristan Cartledge - Keep
23. Mark Bolton - Keep
24. Joe Misiti - Keep if he takes pay cut, otherwise trade, as he aint worth $300k
25. Scott Lucas - Keep
26. Jason Layc ock - Keep
28. Cory McGrath - Trade
29. Joel Reynolds - Keep
30. Sam Hunt - Keep
31. Dustin Fletcher - Keep
33. Adam McPhee - Keep
35. James Davies - Trade
36. Jordon Bannister - Trade
37. Marc Bullen - Keep
38. Shane Harvey - Keep
39. Ben Haynes - Keep
40. Courtney Johns - Keep
41. Ken Hall - Keep
42. Simon O'Keefe - Keep
43. Dean Rioli - Keep

So that's Henno, RFK, McGrath, Davies, Bannister to trade. With Jacobs possibly so. Unfortunately Jacobs is probably the only one of worth. We also might have to trade McVeigh if he wants home. Solly too if he goes for the money.

Misiti needs to take a big paycut if he wants to stay, and we have to hope Mercs takes one to, although he's under no obligation to do so.

Winderlich, Reynolds, Watson, Richards, Harvey, Hunt, Johns + Laycock should all be pressing for inclusion in our best 22 next year, hopefully.

While Bullen, Haynes, Hille, McPhee, Cupido and Welsh should still have significant improvement left in them.

Unless there is a mass exodus (which i doubt), i can see us improving in all thirds of the ground, especially the midfield - and end up being an improved and more consistent side.

Here's my take:

1. Mark Johnson - untouchable (2003 B&F Winner)
2. Mark Mercuri - can still play a role, just needs to be "less cute, more team" orientated
3. Aaron Henneman - tradeable, especially if we go after Allan
4. Jobe Watson - 10 year player, needs to get over his OP first
5. James Hird - next
6. Sean Wellman - still a major player in the back half, maybe could become a tall wingman?
7. Dean Solomon - untouchable, back off Richmond
8. Jason Winderlich - has speed and silk, plus Sheedy loves him.
9. Adam Ramanauskas - future captain, not going anywhere
10. Mark McVeigh - (apparently) wants back to NSW, let him go at your own peril
11. Damien Peverill - slowing down as a tagger, but can still do jobs on certain players (West, Black etc)
12. Andrew Welsh - young Mark Harvey, frees up MJ into the middle
13. Damian Cupido - has a heap of potential, but needs to shrink his head
14. Jason Johnson - untouchable, although slowing down slighlty
15. Robert Forster-Knight - tradeable
17. Darren Walsh - 1st year player - jury still out
18. Matthew Lloyd - next
19. David Hille - will benefit from a quality backup in 2004 (Allan the likely player to do so)
20. Ted Richards - will be a good forward player, just not CHF
21. Danny Jacobs - fighting Bolton to stay at Essendon
22. Tristan Cartledge - 1st year player
23. Mark Bolton - like Jacobs, but can run with players like Pavlich and Goodes. Prefer him over Jacobs
24. Joe Misiti - brain faster than body - can play bit roles in 2004
25. Scott Lucas - Roarted out of AA team, untouchable
26. Jason Layc ock - showed a bit in 2003 Pre Season, could come good in 2004-5
28. Cory McGrath - looks like trade bait back to Perth, but deserves to stay
29. Joel Reynolds - Another of Sheeds favourites. Not going anywhere for a few years at least
30. Sam Hunt - gone
31. Dustin Fletcher - If he stuffs up again he's gone, but for now he stays
33. Adam McPhee - under-rated 2003. Essendon's best recruit
35. James Davies - has pace, but not much else. Another 1st Round pick down the drain
36. Jordon Bannister - showed a bit at start of 2003, but trailied off badly. Should stay
37. Marc Bullen - I'm biased, but he looks to have taken over from Peverill.
38. Shane Harvey - could be a dangerous player at another club. Another top 10 draft pick that deserves to stay on.
39. Ben Haynes - Diamond in the rough that came good. Promotion deserved. The new Mercuri
40. Courtney Johns - Man-Mountain. New CHF in 2004
41. Ken Hall - has a kick like Stuart Dew, but yet to see it. Struggling.
42. Simon O'Keefe - 2 years, no games, not a word about him. Saying that, 2004 will show a bit.
43. Dean Rioli - class. Untouchable
44. Adrian Wilson (R) - No idea. Another struggling.
45. Toby McGrath (R) - too old now to take over from his brothers.
46. Scott Howard (R) - 2 years on rookie list, but can run like an engine. Might be worth keeping.
