The off-season has officially started. First step is working out who to keep, what would you do?

Keep
Michael Johnson
Joel Houghton
Clayton Hinkley
Ben Bucovaz (r)
Gavin Roberts (r)

Delist / Trade
Justin Bollenhagen
Jay van Berlo
Clancee Pearce (r)
Tim Ruffles (r)
Casey Sibosado (r)
Hamish Shepheard (r)

Try my best to trade, but keep for depth if it doesn't work out
Paul Duffield
Ryan Crowley

Trade (only if they demand it/walk)
Rhys Palmer
Jon Griffin

van Berlo and Duffield will be the interesting ones, given they are contracted. But we saw what keeping someone around just because they are contracted can do this year with Schammer.

Pearce will be the only real talking point when it comes to the rookies, but really he will never be anything more than depth so I'd rather try my luck in the draft than elevate him. Sibosado looked good today, but you can't seriously give someone a spot on the senior list based on a half of football. I'd be open to re-drafting him onto the rookie list though.

I'm sure people will want to delist the likes of Hinkley and Bucovaz, but I couldn't care less what they think. :p

Casey Sibosado (r)
Justin Bollenhagen

Delist / Trade*

Jay van Berlo
Clayton Hinkley
Tim Ruffles (r)- will be in a wheel chair by the time he is 30 if he stays
Ryan Crowley

Try my best to trade, but keep for depth if it doesn't work out*
Paul Duffield
Clancee Pearce (r)- wouldn't be too fussed if he stayed or went
Michael Johnson- will end up staying though

Trade (only if they demand it/walk)*
Rhys Palmer
Jon Griffin
-------*bearing in mind I have no idea of the contract status of the above

Chris if Freo are going to finish top 4 and beyond , really can't afford to have guys like Hinkley on the list to be honest...

I don't want this to turn into a Hinkley thread, I actually started it to talk about list management as a whole. But...

I do think Hinkley can contribute, even with a full list to choose from. He has the speed which we really lack, and is a strong tackler. If someone was to make a mistake, I would much rather it be from trying to take the game on - and that is what Hinkley does. He might not be in our best team, but he is a depth player who has the potential to step up in my opinion (unlike Pearce and van Berlo who are just depth).

Anyway, that's all I will say about him. So feel free to bag him to your little heart's content.

No that was me done for Hinkley. He was really really ordinary today. There are a lot better players than him sitting in the wafl. I would upgrade Sibo for one year just to have a look (but I doubt it will happen). I would keep Ruffles and Bucovaz and maybe Roberts on the rookie list. Get rid of van Berlo, Crowley and trade Duffield. I have no idea about Pearce.

Hinkley? No, no, no, no and no. His chances have run out and we simply must not keep him on the list.

Ruffles - keep, Sibosado - keep.

Chris, not sure if you were watching the same game? I can see why you like Hinkley, he certainly tries hard and is quick, but his decision making is so poor, he has no penetration in his kicking and is simply not strong enough around the contest at all. This is not from a lack of trying, he is unfortunately just too weak. I dont mind people making errors "taking the game on" like a Ballanyne or Hill, but most of Hinkley errors are making a short handball in a panick. I have met Hinkley before and he seems like a really good bloke, but he just isnt an AFL player and is not going to help us improve.

Retired:
Hayden
Schammer (reckon he might throw himself to the draft and go to GWS for no return given his lack of game time last couple of years)
Grover (might not be offered a contract - it's time they gave his spot to someone younger - Faulks or Anthony)

Delist
Joel Houghton
Clayton Hinkley
Gavin Roberts (r)
Casey Sibosado (r)

Trade
Rhys Palmer
Paul Duffield
Ryan Crowley
Michael Johnson
Chris Mayne

Keep
Justin Bollenhagen
Jay van Berlo
Ben Bucovaz (r)
Clancee Pearce (r)
Tim Ruffles (r)
Hamish Shepheard (r)

That's at least 12 people to inject - which may be to many unless they can get a lot of mature aged guys.

Love to see more speed - think we have got slightly to tall and a bit slow - we really need a Forward to play the whole year up there with Pav - bring on Mitch Clarke

My list is pretty much the same as yours but i'd be keen to keep Timmeh on the rookie list for 1 more year at least whilst delisting Chinks.

That choke, fumble and pissweak handball he did was hilarious.

He's not cut out for AFL. Chris25 is just trolling.

It's so weird, he seems like a generally decent and knowledgeable poster, yet when it comes to Hinkley I'm convinced the bold is spot on. I cannot understand it.

Said it before and i'll say it again, using the excuse "he wasn't the worst player out there" as a reason for him to be retained is just pissweak and illogical when he's in the bottom 5 everytime he plays.

Not to feed the haters, but according to Harvey, Johnson has agreed to a new offer so he is unlikely to be going anywhere.

I'm fine with that. I just hope they make him fight for his place a bit more next year.

Ditto - if it is anymore than a 1 or 2 year deal - I will spew.
