'Is Monfries a clear first 18 player' should be a starting point for whether anything said about our list by a person can be taken seriously.
Lacks leg speed and has a habit of losing his feet in a contest. Sorry, but this is just a basic fact.

Both points are true, however he is still best 18 in our squad.

what scares me the most is that GWS have got 7 top ten selections sitting in the reserves waiting for a chance. We might have an off season from heaven, but

its stupid. there are great players not playing at the top level, cos a few teams have all the good youngsters stocked up and cant fit them all in. So we are forced to play the sam grays and the kane mitchells, and they can have them on standby

Imagine if they still had Dom Tyson, Taylor Adams, Jack Hombsch, Tom Boyd, et al ...

You will have Carlise from Essendon next year.

I want to remind Ken his job is based on the decisions he makes, the further things progress down this poop road we are traveling the closer he is to being finished.
Contrary to popular opinion i do want Hinkley to succeed but it will be on the back of inspired decisions and getting this under performing crowd moving im not sure Carlisle will have it in him!

Is there any truth in Richo mentioning Port has salary cap issues, and Shultz may not get a contract for next year? Seriously if we are having salary cap issues, I'd like to see a whole heap of our players come together and drop their salaries as a team, as they don't deserve the big bucks for how they are performing this year.

If that's true then we are absolutely ****ed. LUKE 79 tell us more about Carlisle.

Surely Butcher is on a shitload and will be coming out of contract.

Does that mean we have a sub standard "best 18"????????
I cant cope with his inability when put under pressure he fails imo.
???
Do we now drop players and replace them with "lesser players" just because they are not playing to AA atandard?

luke79 is claiming that we will have carlile and will be giving up our first two selections for him and their third pick. I personally call bullshit on this. We gave up our first two picks last year, and so certainly cant see us doing it again, especially for him. I think he would be a good player to have, but not at that price. Id prefer to have sam day

I would definitely pay that, I rate him highly.

I would prefer us to throw those picks at Motlop though, we are lacking extra class and he has it in spades.

Carlisle >> sam day

Day is still figuring it out , and hasn't proven him self as a forward or a back. Has promise , and if he cost little enough he is worth having for sure.

Carlisle has proven himself as a Excellent Backman and just ok forward.

We have little need for a Key defender I believe with what I believe is four quality guys in hombsch , carlile , jacko and clurey. Also some prospects in Howard and Austin.

As a forward Carlisle is ready to go and gives us a target up forward. I just have never seen him dominate , and peg him as an ok forward. Right now an ok tall forward would be a blessing , and we could sure use one. But if the price for an ok forward is a second year of not addressing some young midfield talent with our draft picks its a pretty risky move.

We would really want to absolutely nail the immediate two drafts after that and find some midfield talent like gray and boak or we would be stuffed when they go.

It might be an idea to look at what the most successful team has at the moment and obviously that is Hawthorn. Now whereas most teams want to stock up KPP's for the spine, and gets players who are best in one position, that is not the way at Hawthorn. Sure, they have players who are best in the usual position they play, and some move very little such as Gunston, but they have a good deal of jack-of-all-trades players. Sam Mitchell, Shaun Burgoyne, Matt Suckling, Luke Hodge, Jarryd Roughhead can all play in varying positions while David Hale is a useful forward drifting ruckman. Mitchell, Burgoyne and Hodge are also players who can dominate a position, not just fill it. We have a few players who can swing between one position and another but apart from Robbie Gray most of them are best in the one position.
Maybe it's not just forward planning with draft picks that we need, although that will be important, but forward planning with what we have. For instance, having Ollie Wines or Brad Ebert be able to play a forward role when required. Both can be strong marks and Ebert's problems with field kicking may not translate to goalkicking problems.
It has been mentioned we may throw everything to get Carlisle. I certainly hope not, we have been without first round picks for long enough and are looking at a top 10 this year. If Essendon want to offload Carlisle then I can't see why we would give more than a second rounder for him. I'd like to se as play hardball and come out on op for once.

sam day is my choice over carlile because exactly what you said. we dont need any more key backman, we need a key forward. Motlop wou dbe a great get too, but i thin his worth is somewhere about 15-20. we wont have that kind of pick to give up and i wouldnt be giving up our first pick within the top ten for him.

agree on second rounder. we need our first rounder this year.

Thats exactly why I believe this current group isn't good enough to carry us to a premiership. Each week we are carrying too many players who lack consistently and have major deficiencies in their games. That's why we are losing more games then we win.

Premiership sides have good depth and that's why it is critical to make some tough calls now in terms of delistings/trades.

And now we have locked many of them in to long contracts. Shit they had better start performing!

I don't necessarily disagree with your opinion, just pointing out that the solution proposed by others was not a solution.
IMO we have recruited for many years without some sort of set plan and now we have an unbalanced list. You could say we are paying for the mistakes of the past.
The SANFL situation of years back didn't help but even back then the Crows seemed to have some sort of recruiting strategy whereas we didn't. I'd hate to know what would have happened if we had lost Tippett, Gunston, Davis and Bock.
Now I agree with the soapbox preaching from RussellEbertHandball , the time has come to see who can swim and who cannot. Enough fiddling with the fringe players.
I am still to see the Showdown but I noticed that most are saying that Ah Chee didn't do enough, however he only played a couple of minutes more than Young. If we are going to play youngsters, then please give them a chance to get up to speed.

We will see in trade week who is calling bullshit.I will hold you to this comment.

I think we are too often let down by a few. You can have all the run of the play, but it only takes one player to keep turning it over and it is for nothing. Jonas gone has helped. Lobbe needs to go and be replaced by someone who can ruck. I think big things can happen from small changes. This is why I don't want carlile. If we are going to throw the house at someone, he has to be what we need

Carlile is our player, I take it you mean Carlisle from Essendon. Agree with that. Tall wise we need a KPF not a KPD that can play forward on occasions.
