Just wants out of the on going saga and Ryder from day one has been in his ear telling him how much easier it is away from Essendon.

No problem from me but having seen a fair bit of Mitch Harvey I don't see him as AFL ready.
This year we recruit Austin and Howard types as future KP's. The way things have turned out it was a mistake
to recruit an all mosquito fleet the year before. Imagine Austin or Howard with another year in the system.
We could then realistically know if they were goers.
As our season is realistically shot maybe there is no harm blooding Mitch even if I don't think he's ready
Given the high # of errant kicks this year focus on players like Amon that can bloody well kick

I remember reading a few years back that Carlisle doesn't pass the No d***heads test.

I think its unlikely we'd go for him, but if we did I think we'd try our best not to lose our first round pick, and maybe offer some players such as Moore, Young, Redden, perhaps Clurey.

Carlisle is a very good player but we can't afford to spend our draft picks on a kpd. We look set for kpd's. We need a quality kpf and a mid. Our first pick could be around 7 so we should be able to fill one of those needs in the draft.

Hmmm. I wouldn't be so quick to dismiss Carlisle if he's willing to come to us.

Do you ever wonder why we have to resort to Westhoff pushing back when we are already playing the likes of Carlile, Hombsch, Trengove, Pittard, Broadbent, Jonas/O'Shea and Impey/Krakouer? We already play a +1 in defense to begin with, so the mere fact that we still have to drop another player back should tell you how concerning our defensive structure is. But if we got Carlisle, we could free up Carlile to push forward as he sometimes does while not sacrificing defensive capability.

The defensive setup I see us playing is something akin to this:

Hombsch - Carlisle - Impey
---------Trengove--------
Broadbent - Carlile - Pittard

Swap out Carlile for Clurey when Alipate retires, and you've got a premiership defense right there for the next ten years. With Krakouer/Jonas on the bench to provide cover to both the defense and midfield. This also allows both Broadbent and Pittard to push forward as wingbacks when switching the play, safe in the knowledge that the weak side is covered:

Hombsch - Carlisle - Impey

Trengove - Carlile - Pittard

Broadbent

This also limits the ability of opposition to hurt us quickly on a turnover as the player caught out of position is covered by talls in the backline, meaning they can't just bomb it quickly forward. It's basically like having Westhoff back all the time.

Of course, there's no way I'd give up a top ten draft pick for such a luxury unless we really are going down the catenaccio 'attack from defense' style of playing and are going to ask guys like Broadbent and Pittard to basically act as defensive midfielders instead of the pure defenders they are now.

Andrew Moore and our Second Rounder for Sam Day. Get best available with our first round selection. My first two selections would be, Partington and Brind. Brind will be a Gun however there is a little story doing the rounds about him (as there was with Jack Darling)

As usual, it's all dependent on price tho.

Our most concerning problems ATM are certainly not KPD related, so why throw the kitchen sink at Carlisle? Our main priorities are obvious:

1) A KPF (don't grow on trees I know). If we're gonna spend big bucks then do it right and target a natural KF.
2) Another inside mid with good skills.
3) A crumbing forward in the likes of Walters/Betts

Carlisle isn't a bad option up forward for us. But he isn't a great forward. To be honest he is probably the best option at forward that may be available to us , but I would be hesitant when we very obviously need to add some young midfield talent to our list after giving up our first two picks last year. To be honest to give up our first two picks again regardless of Carlisle being worth that or not could do us some harm in the future.

Wouldn't give up picks, except maybe late ones if there was a player we wanted going cheap. Never know what's going to happen on draft night, Wingard may have been a bit more than luck but Ollie dropping to 7 was not expected. But as for Scharenberg, no more players with injury problems please. Medicine has taken great leaps since Barry Robran was taken out but every injury, however well fixed, will always weaken the body that little extra bit.

Brodie Grundy will be a beauty but virtually ungettable out of Collingwood.

Trading in Carlisle would actually solve our KPF woes in the short term. Not Jake playing a forward role but in defense where he plays his best footy. This would free up Westhoff as Janus had intimated and IMO Westhoff plays his best footy as a roaming KPF where he can directly impact the play.

Our KPF's would be set for the next year or two allowing our developing forwards time to come on. This also sets up our defense for the next 7-10 years and a settled back line is the backbone of a premiership side.
