Long-time NBA fan needs a team

After knowing what you know, which one is right for me?

Interesting to see a lot of your responses.

Part of me subscribed to the idea that some of you posted about letting it happen naturally, and if that doesn't happen, it's fine just to be an NBA fan and gain enjoyment from watching various teams. So that confirmation was reassuring.

I think the plan of attack will be to just try watch a lot more ball this year and see if i'm naturally drawn to a team, which I feel there is already something pulling me to the Warriors and Clips (with a door ajar if there is a whiff of a Seattle return).

Sounds like the right idea to me, but if you're still looking for a team then this (slightly outdated) questionnaire will help.

I don't have a team I follow either, picking one just doesn't feel right.

Whenever someone asks me who my team is I just say "I don't have one. I like the players, not the teams" and I've not felt awkward once. I also believe you can hold a more balanced view and come across as less of a biased flog which so many supporters of any sports team do.

Completely agree with the unbiased part! I've been following the NBA my entire life and don't follow one particular team, just appreciate the game. Have a lot of players that I like but no specific team.

I use this approach with the NFL. Don't really feel any connection to any team but enjoy the game.

I have no team either really. People buy me Bulls merch on occasion but that's because my youth was in the 90s and it was all about Jordan with me.
I usually just say I don't have a team and it was mainly because the game was so hard to follow when you are on the other side of the planet with no way to watch the games. That thinking has kept with me even though I have access to watching some games now. But there is no real deep connection and passion.

Currently I follow Spurs more but once their core group is gone I probably won't care so much.

I do have another solution to your problem though, an epic big matchup tree. Match up everyone from each conference and try to pick who you would want to win (trying to ignore favorite player bias) and then progress to finals and eventually you will have your favourite team and a favourite team in the other conference.

KNICKS: Just one of the great franchises in all of world sport, let alone the NBA. Excluding Melo, hardly exciting in recent times, but hey, it's the Knicks. They're good enough for Spike.

You just made the decision my friend and welcome to being a Knick fan :D

But in all seriousness just dont follow Chicago or Boston as they are the biggest flogs in all of basketball and bandwagoners :D

As opposed to Knicks fans who are all campaigners lol

LAKERS: Kobe is probably the guy I've followed the closest for his whole career. I guess I was closest to being a Lakers fan early on than any other team. I see them as a similar pick to my beloved Essendon (as I do the Celtics), a traditional powerhouse. They're not going well right now, which is fine. But does waiting for Kobe to retire, then trading in their next good team seem a bit manufactured? it might. Not sure how that sits with me.

Sounds to me like Kobe is your favourite player, and sounds like a reason to support the Lakers. And now would be a good time to start supporting the GREATEST FRANCHISE IN AMERICA because no one would call you a bandwagoner, We are every bit as bad as the Knicks have been for the last 45 years. :)

And the added bonus, in 4 or 5 seasons time you will be a supporter of the team with more championships than Boston. :)

unless you were asian........

I also need a team. I've been leaning towards either Thunder or Warriors, but can't seem to care if they win or lose lol.

Your not ready for a team yet then if thats the case.
