Firstly we will get pick 6, which gives us an enormous opportunity to grab one of the most talented youngsters in Australia. Dominic Sheed has been mentioned about being drafted.

Secondly the way the draw is shaping up for next season, the competition is being separated in the top 6, the middle 6 and the bottom 6 which is where we currently stand. If we remain in the bottom 6 at the end of the season we have an opportunity to play a maximum of three double up fixtures against the other sides in the group. Eg: against Gold Coast, Bulldogs, St.Kilda, Melbourne or GWS in the 2014 fixture.

It's not easy to want our side to lose but it's really in the best interests of the club for 2014.

I really doubt that you find it hard to want us to lose.

Really? Melbourne started putting losing and draft picks above who they were and look how it poisoned their culture.

although i can see your logic, and it would be nice to have pick number six ! i rather the boys go out and give it there all, we are a proud club who exist to win games ! call me a patriot ! but just the satisfaction of winning even though we have had a shitty season makes me just a little happier ! and dont forget embers ! it would be great to see the boys see him off the field with a win ! like i said your logic is correct and it would definantly setup our 2014 campaign ! but i would still love to see us win :-)

Yeah if we were a side that had no culture and had not played in finals since forever like Melbourne, then I would be wanting to win every game no matter what to start to develop some belief . But we do have a strong culture and belief already. We have played 5 finals in the previous 2 years.

I don't think winning against the crows is going to make 1 tiny little bit of difference to our season next year. Losing and getting a much easier draw will.

Guaranteed not to play Geelong, Hawthorn, Sydney, Collingwood or Richmond twice next year. Yes please.

I don't want a weak draw for 2014.

Exactly, otherwise we will get tarred with the same brush Adelaide did last year and Freo did this year.

What brush was that. Being a kick away from making the Grand Final brush? How terrible for them!

You've got to come away with the chocolates though and it's no good if you plunge down the ladder a year or two later.

I reckon we will most likely get Dom Sheed, or whomever we are targeting with the pick, whether it's at pick 6 or pick 8.

of the teams we can jump above, adelaide don't have a draft pick, and we are very unlikely to jump above carlton can't see our pick going higher than 8.

as for the draw i can't comment on it. sounds like an usual way to do a draw.

i won't be finding myself to barrack for a loss.

That's the first thing I thought of when I found out about the changes. I think tanking is stupid for picks - like losing to gain two spots in the draft order, is it worth it when the two clubs you have leapforgged may not be aiming for the same kid as you, and if any kid goes within a few draft slots of each other they will be comparable in talent, as well as many clubs make huge pick blunders.

But the draw? That's massive. Playing GWS and/or Melbourne twice vs a top 8 team can be the difference between 4-8 premiership points and as we know that's massive.

Saying that I do not want us to lose this weekend. But if it did happen, I would see the silver lining.

Adelaide will have a good idea of where they stand on Saturday with Port already having played Carlton. I reckon they'll be hard to beat anyway if Port win and knock Carlton out of contention. Adelaide need to make up 60 points on Carlton to get above them, North can overtake them by beating Collingwood on Sunday however.

Bigger that, after sitting through so many miserable performances this year, I want to hear the song being played at the end of the game.

Not imperative. It will help with the board finding some balls and doing a proper review.

Damn right, we should do what we can to send off our 2 premiership winning retirees in style instead of just rolling over.

Meh - the h&a season is just 23 weeks to make the top 4.

If freo win the flag, they will have done so beating the other 3 teams in the top 4

A slightly easier draw that facilitates a top 2 position is welcome.

The reality is, we aren't a top 4 team so the point is moot.

I don't believe we should make losing a priority, however I also don't think winning is a priority either. Strikes me as a good game to trial Hill/ darling and smith in the midfield.

Really? Melbourne started putting losing and draft picks above who they were and look how it poisoned their culture.

There is a difference between mucking around for one game and structuring an entire season around losing. That disenfranchises the players.

That hasn't happened at our club, hell up until a fortnight ago we were rising blokes with dicky injuries.

That doesn't mean we deliberately lose, however there are other priorities than winning in the last 3 weeks

Several issues with this.

1. Practically irrelevant since Woosh and the players will quite rightly do everything they can to win.

2. Confidence is low after 2 horrible weeks. A home loss to Adelaide isn't exactly a great lead in to next season.

3. Two premiership players likely playing their final game at home. I'd be disappointed if the players didn't do their best to get them a win. It's gestures like this that build a strong culture.

4. The draft doesn't drop off at pick 6 there are going to be several great players available at 8 (as long as we pick well). North have a father son and Adelaide don't have picks. So it's likely one spot difference.

5. Playing weak teams does nothing for us. If we are bad no point playing Melbourne and GWS twice and sitting higher on the ladder than we otherwise would next year. It's bad for fans - not much enjoyment to be had playing the worst teams in the comp. And finally if we are good enough it won't matter - see Hawthorn this year.

I will be barracking hard for us on Saturday night and hope to see some genuine promise.

Having said that, 4 points could be a real blow to us.
