Clarke rested, Toovey replaces him.

Not worth the margin, but a massive factor.

Whoever it was bagging Toovey, he was right.

Why was Shannon Cox dropped?

the minute they decide to "rest" players against dud teams, IMO it was always going to end in tears :thumbsd:

I always thought that Jason Wild was the worst player to play for the maggies, closely follwed by Matthew Lokan, BUT after tonights performance, i think Alan Toovey could take over the mantle.

Licuria's selection - absolute Joke
Shannon Cox - Why was he dropped?
Marty Clarke - Rest? Let him miss a f**king training session

Can't wait to hear Micks press conference, what shite will he come out with for a performance like that. Hey Mick l have a tip for ya, recruit midfielders d*** head, and a decent ruckman.

Regardless of what one or two changes could have been made at the selection table, our problems run deeper than that. We got found out tonight, and if it wasn't tonight it would have been sooner later.

Turnover Toovey should have never been considered.

He hasn't been good for ages at Williamstown and was picked to play just because he had a good game against Richmond months ago...? Grr argh

That was me. He's probably a good kid, but he has a long WAFL career ahead of him.

Welcome to reality, at least three players need to be delisted each year, and more if we want to promote rookies who can actually play the game, such as Clarke.

Someone's gotta go, and if Toovey's average form for Williamstown didn't yell "delist me!", then his abysmal display tonight screamed it from atop a dark tower built by legions of orcs.

I think Toovey has shown the capability to play at AFL level.

It's hardly fair to rate a young kid down on confidence off so little...

I agree, I don't think you can load all the blame on Toovey for tonights loss or you can judge his long term future on one game. He did not cover himself in glory but he was not on his "Pat Malone".
The whole team looked a yard short on pace and were nearly alway second to the contest. I don't remember seeing a ball bounce for a Pies player during the whole game. I did see some very unlucky bounces. The footy Gods were definitely not on our side tonight.
Having said that I think if you have a look at the replay in the cool light of day you would have to agree that Richmond played well and we were beaten by a better team, a much better team than their ladder position indicates.

There is always next week.

Wakelin and Bucks will retire am im sure he is at least higher then Iles and Davies on the pecking order

Iles is definitely ahead of Toovey.

Wakelin, Bucks and Davies are the only near-certainties, if it were up to me, Toovey would be just as certain as Davies.

Not looking to troll here, but the lack of respect paid to the Tiges, not only at the selection table but on the night showed.

Maybe so, but keen to read what you mean on the 2 points 1. selection and 2 on the night.- Lets keep in mind when we the supporters hear that players are rested it may well mean that they have an injury.

Fair call, and I agree that with a run to the finals, a rest can do you the world of good, but to not play Didak, who has carved us up, and Clarke, who is in great form an is high in confidence was certainly a big mistake. If you guys get done by Melbourne next week, there may not be finals on the radar anyway.

Didak didn't carve you up last time, because he's on the mend from an ACL reco. He hasn't been the same this year, but like Lockyer will return to his best.

Some real facts:

Two key position forwards wont win you finals or grand finals especially when one isnt in the greatest form. Its delusional to think otherwise.

Resting AFL players is stupid. Does any other team do this. Didnt they learn from last year.

If your best player can play then why opt on the side of caution at this point during the season. Really really stupid.

As a coach its good to have game day tactics blah blah blah, blah but you also need a coach ready to kick the players up the arse hard. You really have to question some players committment at the moment. Alas it seems that running around town as an AFL player is much more important than running around the football field. Disipline needs to be installed and any player who doesnt like it can bugger off. Its time to get professional if we want to get results on the feild.

May agree with this. Saw Tony Shaw On the Couch this week and he said something like: "Tom Hafey smashed us, I mean he always smashed us at training, but he really smashed us that night". Maybe MM needs them down at Willy 6 oclock am, day after the game for a swimming session? Always seemed to work when I was in the Army and we flucked up, we would do the obstacle course 2 or 3 times or bayonet fighting with helmets and body armour until someone went down with heat exhaustion. Tended to get everyone switched back on for a month or so. Sure pats on the back are great when you win, but when you lose like last night a kick in the ring might also be deserved. That was worse than the loss to Richmond last year because at least that was earlier in the year and they weren't as bad as this year. Thank god West Coast lost to Brisbane and Freo or we would be the laughing stock of the league.

Resting players smacks of arrogance, and I am sure that would have given Richmond an extra 5% boost.

But still, we lost the game in the middle, I don't think Clarke would have made that much difference. You cannot expect to win a game when you barely have one player get 20 possessions or more.

That was the flattest performance I have seen from the Pies in some time. :thumbsd:

Who got 20 possessions for us? I thought O'Bree topped them with 18, and Licuria second with 17.
