Boof Lehmann is currently in hospital with an acute leg infection, Martin Love has been drafted into the squad to cover him incase he isn't fit. Well at least that lays to rest who is going to the west indies.

thankfully there was no brain explosion resulting in michael clarke getting called up.

Yeah why wouldn't you take a punt on a young up and coming star for a dead rubber to see how he goes at the top level.

I reckon wait til theres a test series in the balance and chuck him into the deep end.

When it is test match cricket and there is one spot spare you don't throw in a player with a lot of potential, you put in the next best player. At this stage that person is Martin Love, lets us not forget that love is 28, most batsmen seem to bat to reach their peak between the ages of 28 - 34. If love was to get his opportunity and continue in test match cricket that would give him six years.

NOONE IN THEIR RIGHT MIND COULD DISAGREE WITH THE PROMOTION OF MARTIN LOVE TO THE TEST SQUAD.

Could not agree more. You just cant ignore the form state player in the country in favour of a young guy. The guy has had 2 innings against England this summer, and has made 2 double hundreds. He's next in line and deserves this chance.

I agree, but I think most players reach their peak at 30-33 before their batting slowly slides until they get dropped/retire at 36-37.

It is pretty awful news to hear about Boof being in hospital with an leg infection.

Apparently he had a bruise that was cut open and wouldn't stop bleeding. :(

I hope that he recovers from this. He's one fine cricketer:)

oh yeah, how stupid of me, i should have realised that michael clarke deserves a spot more than someone who averages 10 more than him at first class level, and who is this years leading run scorer. also never mind the fact that he's scored 450 runs in 2 innings v england without getting out.

Sh*t, I hope Lehmann isn't in too much trouble. :( :( :(

We finally know who the selectors want to replace Waugh with, would be great to see Martin Love get his chance on the West Indies tour. I suspect Michael Clarke will go as well, as the back-up batsman.

It's only a matter of time before some Bevan/Elliott supporting whiney-bitch comes on and states a case!

This is a bit harsh, but this is what I hope happens:

Love has a blinder of a debut, and the selectors opt to keep him for the 5th test. Harsh on Lehmann, but it really is getting to the point where we need to bring a few young guys in. Love is good for it at 28, and Clarke looks good to replace Waugh. I do like Lehmann, and he deserves his chance, but I think it is risky not having a balance of age in the team.

1. Hope Lehmann gets better because he deserves his chance but even if he isn't better and Love gets runs, Lehmann will come back in for Waugh after this series I'd say.

2. Even if Lehmann is fit, the selectors have made a big step by basically stating Love is next in line, which for me is a step in the right direction.

3. Clark is still not ready yet, doesn't play much of the back foot which against good quick bowling he may get sorted out. At the moment, he tends just plays the front foot hook shot, which he doesn't as good as anyone but against really good quick bowlers (Shoiab, Gough, Waqar, Wasim, Bond etc,.) he would most likely find some difficuly. Still at least another season away from test recognition IMO.

"Love is in the air..."

Good luck to Love for his debut tomorrow. He definately deserves the spot in the 4th test after another brilliant start to the summer. Marvellous choice that!
