Originally was for Claye (Who wore 17), so not really.

I thought Claye would come on but injuries were cruel to him. He had the talent though.

I remember a thread ages ago in late 2013 when Buddy made his announcement where the admin allowed Hawthorn fans with "Buddy" in their username the chance to change their username. I think a lot of Hawthorn fans took up the offer.

The AFL is stupid, if they genuinely want teams to score more just force clubs to always have two forwards inside their F50. Watching our game against Port on the weekend, so many times there is a stoppage on someones half forward flank and 36 players in 2/3 of the ground.

Personally don’t see what the problems is 😉
There isn't a problem. Its nothing more than the cycle and evolution of the game. There shouldnt have been these changes. Why? Because coaches will always, always find ways to get what they want. Coaches want to stop the opposition scoring, they want control. That's much easier to do than score because you dont need the ball to defend.

The problem is the AFL had some good ideas last year that they wanted to try, but as soon as they announced them certain elements of the public had a temper tantrum and Gil did what he always does, he backed down, offering a compromise that changed the rules but no where near enough to actually help in any meaningful way.

Those score increasing rule changes really worked

AFL extending the goal square has actually resulted in less scoring, there are less repeat entries and therefore lower chances of scoring . Low scores in the opening rounds proves this . So the rule change has worked in the opposite of its intention.

The game is now played on the wings . This has all occurred because there was a lack of evidence that this rule change would work , but they panicked due to lower ratings and did it anyway . All the afl needs to do to increase scoring is limit interchanges . It’s that simple .

The AFL wanted the evidence, but people complained when the AFL suggested changing the rules for a few meaningless games towards the end of the season.

More scoring means more ads means more $$$ for broadcasters. These changes are driven by ch 7.

Perhaps the TV model is broken and the FTA channels need to work out how to get more money for fewer ads or the AFL have to accept less money for their product.

It's unacceptable that we are changing the game for these reasons.

don't give them ammunition to flood my screen with ads during play.

They aren't meaningless when they affect draft position

They were still mostly meaningless. The vague possibility of it affecting a draft position a tiny amount was not enough of a reason not to trial the new rules.
Yes it was.

You don't try new rules during season proper.

If they want to test out new rules then make preseason 3 or 4 games instead of wasting everyone's time with AFLX

The ball is now trapped on the wings . The rule was designed for the players to kick the ball up the guts and get over the half way line . Problem is coaches are way too risk averse and they prefer the long to the wing option . This means repeat entry scores are much less likely and scores are lower .

Need to bring in the rule Clarkson suggested last year, where if a player handballs to a teammate that teammate immediately loses all right to prior opportunity. That one rule won't make the game look much different but it will stop players doing 5 or 6 little handballs in packs and being happy with getting another ball up.

This just makes far too much sense to ever be brought to reality.

With the fitness of modern players and the degree of sophistication that goes into team defence the only way they will open the game up and get back to one on one contests all over the ground is to reduce the number of players on the field.
Its probably inevitable.
