Re: Luke Ball knee injury, early diagnosis PCL

Firstly shattered for Bally as the bloke is a champion, this season is hanging by a thread.

Highly doubtful of a flag in 2012, which begs the question if you are only going to be a bit part player in the finals is it worth making it or should we do an 05 top up the list with some genuine talent and re assault in 2013.

I know it's round 3 but blind freddy can see we are miles off it.

Re: Luke Ball knee injury, early diagnosis PCL

Terrible news for Luke and Collingwood

Without totally giving up on 2012, there should be a real focus on 2013 here for the Pies.

Let some guys get their bodies right, certainly don't rush back any of the remaining guys currently injured in desperation.

Lenny suffered the same injury last year, is quite a bit older, and plays a similar role. Being inside mids/engine room type players, I truly can't see why Luke can't return to his best next year also.

Re: Luke Ball knee injury, early diagnosis PCL

Unbelievable. 3 season ending knee injuries by round 3.

On the bright side, if we do struggle for the rest of the year, it's an earlier draft pick in what is touted as a superdraft. If we do happen to miss the 8 (which I doubt) that will be damn close to a top 10 as any mid-1st round comp picks come after the top 10.

Classy top bloke. All the best Bally on a speedy recovery. Don't rush it.

Re: Luke Ball knee injury, early diagnosis PCL

Are we cursed or something?
We had a horrible run towards the back end of last year, now we've got three ACLs and we're only at rd 3. Not to mention we've had Wellingham, Taz, Reid, Didak, Brown, Johnson injured as well.

Far out.

Edit: Sorry, Wellingham suspended.

Re: Luke Ball knee injury, early diagnosis PCL

Man, really sad to hear this for anyone, but just when it looked like Ball had gotten his body right after years of OP trouble at StKilda, now this.

Massive loss for the Pies, on top of Macaffer and Krakouer, how many more ACL's can you guys possibly have?

Re: Luke Ball knee injury, early diagnosis PCL

Josh Thomas, where art thou?

Even if he plays a handful of games this year, they will be invaluable.

I wasn't sure if it was Thomas or Elliot, they look fairly similar. But a player of that description was on crutches going through the ponny last night.

Re: Luke Ball knee injury, early diagnosis PCL

Surely he couldn't have done it the first time? He wouldn't have been able to put any weight on it whatsoever.

Nah mate. I played with a guy who hurt his knee, went off for about 10 minutes, came back on because it felt OK, then after a couple of minutes went to move sideways and his knee just buckled from underneath him. He didn't feel the pain the 2nd time just no stability. ACL done.

Lenny Hayes once played out a game only to find out the next day, he'd done his ACL. Was back in the early '00s I think.

Ok then, just most times i have noticed the player knows straight away, and cant walk.

Re: Luke Ball knee injury, early diagnosis PCL

Huge blow, it's not the fact that we can't cover him (Wellingham, Sidebottom and Beams are more than capable), but with those players moving into the middle it leaves our already struggling small forwards really short...How important it is for Didak to get back to form now...

Also do the medical staff take responsibility for this one? If he has a hurt knee why send him back on, if they did it because Reid was already down then it is a disgrace.

Not even close to what Ball does but it will give us something different in there. Blair may be the one that needs to step up. Maybe Wellers gets more of a chance as well.

Re: Luke Ball knee injury, early diagnosis PCL

Alot of people blaming the doctors and I don't think thats fair. Bally wouldn't have gone on if he thought something was wrong. It's not like he was limping when he went back on, he looked fine. We should be smashing the Carlton doctors for risking Armfield aswell then. I think we file it under shit happens.

In both those cases they would have needed a reco anyway. You can't play a season of elite sport with an even partially torn ACL.

Re: Luke Ball knee injury, early diagnosis PCL

sorry to hear the news. Love the way Ball goes about it.

Dont you guys have excellent midfield depth?

Thomas can win the hard ball so throw him in there as a stop gap.

Also huge raps on Marley Williams so he may get elevated?

Re: Luke Ball knee injury, early diagnosis PCL

We won't make the top 6.
Too many players badly out of form, and our second tier players are dropping like flies.
