The exact kind of inside mid we are after. Tough as nails, tackles like a man possessed, hands are nearly as good as Blacky's. Seems out of favour with Ross Lyon. What would we have to give up to get him?

One of my favourite non Brisbane players, but too slow, I think. We need some pace through the middle
He might not be lightning quick like Davey/Rioli, but if he gets over his groin issues he should be fast enough.

Effective ball movement > speed.

The problem is that even if he is on the outer at St Kilda, they'd want a fair bit for him and I don't know if we'd be willing to pay what's needed.

I rate Ball even with groin issues. Fantastic inside mid. Sure he isnt quick but neither is Simon Black and he is one of the greats.

Considering he went 2 in the superdraft and is AA, ex-captain of the club - what would we have to give for him? Charman + pick?

It'd have to be more than Ball for Charmo. St's already have King & Gardiner. Charmo's no spring chicken either so really doesn't offer as much as he could the Hawks. A possible 3 way deal that moved on one of the St's existing ruck pair to the Hawks and a swap of 1st round picks could get that side of it done and relieve St's cap pressure a bit more, then Ball & Charmo are swapped.

Except Luke Ball is 5 times the player.

I wouldn't have thought so, but I guess it depends where they are at with their injuries. Ball seems to have lost a yard of pace and doesn't look like getting it back. It's not yet clear whether Charman's body is shot, in which case he has no value. If he can regain full fitness then I would have thought his value is similar, or greater than, Ball's.

It's no secret that Brisbane need a player who can win clearances, and both St Kilda's ruckmen are in their 30s. They may have thoughts on getting a ready made ruckman while they are in their 'window'. Next year will be harder with the GC also in the market for ruckmen.

Trade Ball for Charman.

the saints do not need another ruckamn. have 2 up and coming ruckmen mcEvoy and Stanley, besides the current 2 of gardiner and king.

I actually just read an article on realfooty.com in which the saints recruiting manager said Stanley was a long way off AFL football. Meaning you effectively only have 3 ruckman. Two of which are 30+. I think it would be wise to recruit another mature aged ruckman like Charmo who has at least 2 or 3 years left in him. By that time McEvoy will be a superstar, Stanley should have developed nicely and you should have another few ruckman on your list courtesy of the draft.

If the reasons for moving Charman on are limited playing opportunities and salary, can't see how him going to St Kilda will help with their salary cap either.

Sydney's got a heap of space, have a history of trading for established players so would be a good fit. Too bad as it looks like they're getting Seaby.

Ball may be 5 times the player (although that's somewhat of an exaggeration), but he's not a ruckman and that's what the saints need, what with King and Gardiner both being 30? next year.

That said, i think we'd have to give more then Charmo.

Chase Tuck and Lovett i say. And thats it

Smart thinking. :thumbsu:

...and Raines, of course

Tuck is terrific, never gets injured, very strong (Winderlich said, FWIW, he is about the stongest mid in the game) and is a gem at clearances. Issues on disposal are noted, though it's a bit like saying a quarterback who has a crap defensive line doesn't throw well.

Reduce the pressure, via a better network around him, and he's reliable and acceptable. Very big hoof and brilliant set shot.

We can, and do, argue about price, but he would definitely be an asset to your setup and prospects

I rate L.Ball. His run with injuries has stopped him from being a gun midfielder, I reckon.

Considering that B.McLean might go for a first round pick, I'd suggest that Ball might be worth the same. If St.Kilda are desperate to get some salary cap relief he could go for less.

UTG - Why is it that you speak up Tuck something chronic, yet so desperate to get rid of him? Even if we were interested, and I know nothing to the contrary, Henderson will in no way be part of such a trade...next.
